Having worked in local government for over a decade up to 2018, the likes of Luke will cause untold damage, grab headlines but only hurt working people. I know the political and government landscape of Hull and Hull needs Reform as much as I need elevated PSA levels.

It’s not that people want him to fail, it’s more that Reform just spout sound bites and have no real idea what they are doing. Putting a former pro boxer into a role they have zero experience isn’t likely to end well. They’ve also put an 18 year old in charge of a council. An 18 year old !!!

They all spout sound bites, how can you say anything other , the last two political parties that run and ran the show have sent this country to dark , dark places .Controversial wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025, 17:50It’s not that people want him to fail, it’s more that Reform just spout sound bites and have no real idea what they are doing. I knew I shouldn't have posted anything about politics on a boxing forum , it really has no place here .

I’m no fan of any political party and you are right they all spout sound bites but from what I’ve seen of Reform they seem to have less of a clue than all the rest. Campbell seems to be proving how clueless they are.rd350lc wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025, 02:35They all spout sound bites, how can you say anything other , the last two political parties that run and ran the show have sent this country to dark , dark places .Controversial wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025, 17:50It’s not that people want him to fail, it’s more that Reform just spout sound bites and have no real idea what they are doing. Where is this from? Im certain Campbell or the mayors office in general round here has no individual authority to sack any members of the admin team. They are seconded from the combined councils.

Cheers mate. In Lincolnshire the previous administration were not great by any means but the new lot are beyond clueless. They spent a lot of time focusing on getting rid of diversity officers. The county council doesn’t have any.golden_labrador wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025, 18:42100%. on both counts!SeanBrennan wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025, 17:01Having worked in local government for over a decade up to 2018, the likes of Luke will cause untold damage, grab headlines but only hurt working people. And the new mayor Andrea Jenkins has been talking about sorting illegal migrants jumping the housing queue for council housing. I’m not political at all these days but that is not true at all, I work in this sector and it’s a myth

Reform told people what they (some anyway) wanted to hear, regardless of how true it actually was. Seems to me like a party run by rich men happy setting people off against each other.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025, 19:06Cheers mate. The BNP bellends used to knock on door up north spouting the same nonsense years back, these clowns are pretty much the same.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025, 19:06Cheers mate. They did round my way mate, one of them used to door knock telling me he can't find work due to 'foreigners' - I went to primary school with him and he was bone idle even then. I offered to find him a job and he lumbered off dragging his knuckles.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025, 13:14The BNP bellends used to knock on door up north spouting the same nonsense years back, these clowns are pretty much the same.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑14 Jul 2025, 19:06Cheers mate. I might try it it's a well easy narrative. Immigrants gave me cancer, they stole my healthy cells!

Luke Campbell splits from Reform UK net zero policy with praise for green energy
Reform UK Mayor Luke Campbell has said he is “all for” green energy, in the first signs of a split with the national party’s policy.
The former Olympic boxer was responding to questions at the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority (HEYCA) meeting this week.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Labour Coun Shane McMurray asked: “Is there anything you can say now to give reassurance to people who work at Siemens, who want to get a career in wind farms and jobs like that?”
Mr Campbell responded: “The mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire should stand for the people, it was the people that elected Luke Campbell into place so I'll stand up and represent them the best I can.
“If that's creating jobs in any sector I'm all for it. Who doesn't like cleaner air and green energy? I do and I'm all for that.”
Coun McMurray said the mayor's response “will give a lot of reassurance to a lot of workers and a lot of people who want to work in the industry in this region”.
It is the first sign of Mr Campbell diverting from Reform UK’s national policy, with Nigel Farage pledging to scrap net zero targets if he gets elected.

Re: Boxer Luke Campbell on course to become Hull and East Yorkshire Mayor
Luke is having a mare as Mayor (nearly a rhyme). His officers are leaving etc as he thinks he can just make political appointments for officer roles, which is illegal. It’s a tough job but he hasn’t a scoobie and he’s learning how obstructive officers can be. His politics aren’t mine but I have sympathy for him as the CMA staff are former LEP staff and are largely tools. Most of the strategic funding isn’t within his control.
I bet boxing was a doddle compared to his current role. And it is utterly thankless as there’s naff all the regional mayor can do really as their budget is about £20m and the Council are just pieing him off

Re: Boxer Luke Campbell on course to become Hull and East Yorkshire Mayor
Hull is one of the main green energy hubs in the UK due to the offshore wind farms. Its not surprising that the Mayor of Hull supports the green energy industry. Would be political suicide not to.
