I think the problem is that he's not just bad but he's constant and loud while also bad. It's impossible to ignore and it's distracting. If he was bad but was not shouting constantly it wouldn't matter as much.

If you like someone jabbering non stop about nothing in particular while staying to a pre fight narrative regardless of what's happening in the ring, exaggerating/lying ( everyone on their feet - handful at ringside looking at their phones ) and screaming excitedly that ' Jake Paul is in the house ' like a 15 year old schoolgirl, you must be very happy indeed.

You can almost feel Jones cringing when he's being dragged into a Smith "pick a narrative and stick with it" alley.

I always harp back to the two dudes calling the 12th round of Froch v Taylor. Epic stuff worthy of the action unfolding.

That is what commentary should be about, enhancing the viewing experience not making me want to beat the man half to death.

Even if we did manage to hear it, Smith would probably start explaining to the viewers that “blowing it” was not a reference to smoking or vaping, and is not in any way insensitive to those who may have been affected by lung cancer.

Bunce might have his moments, but live TV is tough, the man was great at Setanta. I for one certainly have never turned the sound down when he is speaking.

It’s a real bugbear of mine that in an age of digital technology the broadcasters who we pay top dollar to don’t give us the option of commentary free sport. But sadly they’re never gonna do that because the commentator’s first job is to hype the product..
