Ricky Hatton Book

I wasn't expecting much, but just noticed it in a shop and sat down at the bar and read the first few chapters, and have to say it's an excellent read so far.
Well written by the journo ghost writer, and comes across as Ricky sitting at the bar and telling his life story in a typical brutaly honest and witty style.
Hard not to get drawn in and he takes you behind the scenes in the run up to the Tszyu fight: Full of confidence in the lead up to the fight, until Tszyu arrives and he meets him at one of the press conf.
It suddenly dawns on Hatton that this is the real thing "this guy is a legend and he plans to take my f***ing head off!"
He has to really fight to control his fear, right up to the first bell.

Flicking through the book, I can see he gives sports network both barrels late on, with some interesting behind the scenes drama.

Very good so far, and avoids a lot of the cliches you often get in boxing books.

I know, I should probably read the whole thing before recommending it!

but so far, so good.

hmm, sounds like it may be worth a read, I'm usually dubious about books written before someone has retired from their sport, but this sounds like it may have some gems in it.

Yes i saw it in Asda i had a quick flick through. But as im not a Hatton fan it didnt take my fancy.

He actually has two - there's another coming out in october which follows the build-up to the Collazo fight.

He's doing a signings all over at the moment - Stockport is the nearest to you if your in manc.

If theres any interesting politics, behind the scenes stories, get them posted lads. Lacking time for reading at the moment (although I may have time if I didnt spend time on boxing forums lol)

Yeah but i love anything Boxing so it should be an ok read.

Just finished the book and I should add, after my glowing review of chapter one, that it's all DOWN hill from there.

The ghost writer does a crap job, instead of editing what Hatton has to say in a interesting way, he lets him ramble on about how he's a man of the people, likes a drink, doesn't have a big head, likes a drink, isn't greedy, Warren was unfair etc etc.

Tedious stuff. The opening chapter is by far the best, probably because it's about the Tszyu fight, but the rest, like most of Hatton's career so far, is predictable stuff.

He makes a good point though: Warren moans about loyalty - but Ricky left him because he wasn't happy. Now if Hatton had lost 2 or 3 early fights, do we think Frank would have shown much loyalty there?

The reason that Boozing is the main topic in the book is due to the fact that the Ghost Writer, Niall Hickman is a bigger piss-head than Ricky is so I can imagine where most of he work was done.

The Books crap and he should be embarrassed to write such bullshot when he knows the truth as does the writer.

I bet the Warren legal team are sharpening their pencils as we speak and more of Ricky's fortune will be dwindled away on legal fees.

My kidneys/liver wish I was
