CHRISTIAN MBILLI VS. LESTER MARTINEZ, CALLUM WALSH-FERNANDO VARGAS JR. ADDED TO CANELO-CRAWFORD UNDERCARD

The undisputed super middleweight title fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will feature a terrific clash between surging and unbeaten knockout artists when Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez slug it out in a matchup that carries significant stakes in the division.

Mbilli (29-0, 24 KOs) vs. Martinez (19-0, 16 KOs) was identified as a flagship fight earlier this summer, and now they will star on one of the most anticipated events of the year when they square off Sept. 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Netflix.

With a strong showing, the winner should emerge to be on the shortlist of opponents to face the winner of Canelo-Crawford in the future.

Mbilli is coming off a masterful first-round knockout victory against Maciej Sulecki in June to win the WBC 168-pound interim title. Before the fight, Turki Alalshikh expressed his desire and intent to feature Mbilli on the Canelo-Crawford card.

Martinez, meanwhile, must remain healthy. The 29-year-old from Guatemala has a recent history of health issues that have forced him to abruptly pull out of fights.

Last month, Martinez withdrew from his fight against Pierre Hubert Dibombe five days before the matchup because of migraines.

In September 2024, Martinez successfully weighed in for his fight against Joeshon James but pulled out soon afterward with an illness. The fight was rescheduled for February, but Martinez pulled out of the bout once again during fight week with an illness.

Martinez finally fought James in March and scored a fourth-round knockout. It was his most recent fight, and he has fought twice each of the past two years.

Martinez, who is coached by Crawford’s trainer Brian McIntyre, is not ranked by The Ring in the top 10 but is very much a threat to the Cameroonian French-Canadian. Martinez is rated No. 3 (WBA), No. 7 (WBC) and No. 15 (IBF).

Mbilli is The Ring’s No. 1 fighter at 168 pounds.

In the co-main event slot, unbeaten Callum Walsh will take on Fernando Vargas Jr. in a 10-round junior middleweight bout. The Irishman has impressed throughout his 13-fight career, scoring 11 knockouts since turning pro in 2021. He's promoted by Tom Loeffler's 360 Promotions and hopes to be a main fixture of TKO Group's Zuffa Boxing over the coming years.

Elsewhere on the card, Mohammed Alakel will face John Ornelas over six rounds at lightweight.

Serhii Bohachuk-Brandon Adams II to support Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford

Short of fighting for a title in the world’s deepest division, Serhii Bohachuk most longs to remove the blemishes from his record.

On the high-profile Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford card from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13, Ukraine’s Bohachuk, 26-2 (24 KOs), will have that opportunity in a junior-middleweight rematch against Brandon Adams, a former “The Contender” winner who stopped him in the eighth round of their bout in Puerto Rico in 2021.

Two sources with knowledge of the bout informed BS about it on Saturday. At the time of his stoppage against Adams, Bohachuk, 30, was leading on all three scorecards via scores of 68-64, 69-63, 68-64 and he sought to finish Adams when unexpectedly rocked and was stopped himself.

Bohachuk-Adams II is expected to round out the primary three-fight undercard supporting the undisputed super-middleweight bout between four-division champions Alvarez and Crawford – likely replacing a lower-profile catchweight bout between Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Alakel and John Ornelas.

A junior-middleweight clash between the unbeaten pair Callum Walsh and Fernando Vargas Jnr, and a super-middleweight bout between another unbeaten pair in Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez, has been reserved for the primary undercard.

Bohachuk is the number-one-ranked WBC 154lbs contender under the champion Sebastian Fundora and the interim champion Vergil Ortiz Jnr, who edged Bohachuk by majority decision in August 2024.

While Bohachuk fervently wants another crack at Ortiz after knocking him down twice, he’s confided to associates that he learned the most by losing to Adams.

The 36-year-old Adams, 25-4 (16 KOs), has fought just three times since defeating Bohachuk – including, most recently appearance, his loss in November 2024 to Andreas Katzourakis. In 2019, he lost a unanimous decision to then-WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

For Bohachuk, who has been training in Big Bear Lake, California, the opportunity to avenge the loss and gain the exposure on this card is too rich to bypass.

Bohachuk-Adams II, five more bouts confirmed for Canelo-Crawford undercard

Serhii Bohachuk and Brandon Adams will enjoy a far greater stage for their rematch than was the case for their first meeting more than four years ago.

The pair of junior middleweights are confirmed to run it back, atop the preliminary undercard preceding the September 13 Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Terence “Bud” Crawford super fight. Bohachuk-Adams II is one of six bout that was revealed on Tuesday by Dana White, whose Zuffa Boxing will serve as lead promoter for the Netflix event from Allegiant Stadium, home to the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.

“This a rematch of a badass fight between the two,” White said of the fight during an Instagram Live revealing the full lineup. “Literally, Adams had to win the fight by knockout and he did.”

White’s Zuffa Boxing will present the event along with boxing’s top powerbroker, Turki Alalshikh, along with Canelo Promotions and Crawford’s TBC Fights, LLC.

The other five bouts on the preliminary undercard, which goes live at 5:30 p.m. ET on Netflix’s YouTube channel:

- Ivan Dychko, 15-0 (14 KOs), a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist from Kazakhstan faces Michigan’s Jermaine Franklin, 23-2 (15 KOs) in a 10-round heavyweight bout.

- Fast-rising 130lbs rookie Reito Tsustumi, 2-0 (1 KOs), a Ring Magazine ambassador from Tokyo, Japan, meets Dallas’ Javier Martinez, 7-2 (4 KOs), in a scheduled six-round contest.

- Steven Nelson, 20-1 (16 KOs), a longtime Crawford stablemate from Omaha, Nebraska, takes on Cuba’s Raiko Santana, 12-4 (6 KOs) in a round super middleweight affair. Nelson suffered his lone career defeat to Diego Pacheco earlier this year; Santana owns upset wins over Lorenzo Simpson and Joseph George.

- Sultan Almohamed, a 17-year-old junior welterweight, makes his pro debut in a scheduled four-round bout versus Martin Caraballo, 0-0-1, of Hollywood, Florida.

- Mexico’s Marco Verde, 2-0 (1 KO), a 2024 Olympic silver medalist who is managed by Eddy Reynsoso, will appear in a six-round 168lbs bout against an opponent to be determined. Verde’s pro debut came on the May 3 undercard for Alvarez’s unanimous decision win over William Scull to become two-time undisputed 168lbs champion.

I mean, I don’t think it was a fight the world was crying out for, maybe because no one expected Crawford to step up two weights, or whatever it is.

But here it is, and I guess it’s going to be massively intriguing to see what happens - even though Canelo is past his best.

They’ve both looked unbeatable, but my guess is Bud is the guy who wins whatever it takes, so Bud Crawford gets it on points. It’ll be great to see a spectacular knockout, either way, but is that an impossibility too?
