SERHII BOHACHUK-BRANDON ADAMS JOINS CANELO-CRAWFORD UNDERCARD ON YOUTUBE

Serhii Bohachuk couldn’t secure the chance to avenge his most recent defeat, but he will get another opportunity to beat the only other opponent who has defeated him as a professional.

TKO announced Tuesday that a rematch between Bohachuk and will be part of the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford undercard September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The Bohachuk-Adams rematch, a 10-rounder that will be contested at a contracted catch weight of 156 pounds, will be streamed on YouTube, along with five other bouts.

American heavyweight Jermaine Franklin (23-2, 15 KOs), of Saginaw, Michigan, will face 6-foot-9 Kazakh knockout artist Ivan Dychko (15-0, 14 KOs) in another 10-rounder on the YouTube portion of the undercard.

The Alvarez-Crawford showdown and its main undercard bouts will be streamed by Netflix, to a subscriber base that exceeds 300 million.

Ukraine’s Bohachuk (26-2, 24 KOs) led Adams comfortably on all three scorecards when he was drilled with a left hook that abruptly ended their scheduled 10-rounder early four years ago in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Bohachuk’s head snapped back and he went down with 26 seconds to go in the eighth round. A disoriented Bohachuk beat referee Ramon Pena’s count, but he stumbled and their fight was stopped in March 2021.

Adams (25-4, 16 KOs), of Whittier, California, had trailed by scores of 69-63, 68-64 and 68-64.

Bohachuk, 30, has won eight of his nine fights since that defeat.

His only loss during that stretch was a “Fight of the Year” candidate in which he dropped knockout artist Vergil Ortiz Jr. twice. Ortiz, of Grand Prairie, Texas, recovered from each knockdown quickly and beat Bohachuk by majority decision in August 2024 in Las Vegas.

Bohachuk’s handlers have tried to put together a rematch with Ortiz, but it hasn’t happened. Ortiz (23-0, 21 KOs) is instead expected to defend his WBC interim 154-pound crown against Erickson Lubin (27-2, 19 KOs) on October 18.

Adams, 36, has been a lot less active than Bohachuk since they fought.

He’ll end a 9½-month layoff when he boxes Bohachuk again. Adams lost his last bout to Greek prospect Andreas Katzourakis (16-0, 11 KOs), who won their 10-rounder by split decision last November 22 in Atlanta.

Bohachuk-Adams II, five more bouts confirmed for Canelo-Crawford undercard

Serhii Bohachuk and Brandon Adams will enjoy a far greater stage for their rematch than was the case for their first meeting more than four years ago.

The pair of junior middleweights are confirmed to run it back, atop the preliminary undercard preceding the September 13 Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Terence “Bud” Crawford super fight. Bohachuk-Adams II is one of six bout that was revealed on Tuesday by Dana White, whose Zuffa Boxing will serve as lead promoter for the Netflix event from Allegiant Stadium, home to the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.

“This a rematch of a badass fight between the two,” White said of the fight during an Instagram Live revealing the full lineup. “Literally, Adams had to win the fight by knockout and he did.”

White’s Zuffa Boxing will present the event along with boxing’s top powerbroker, Turki Alalshikh, along with Canelo Promotions and Crawford’s TBC Fights, LLC.

Adams, 25-4 (16 KOs) won their March 2021 meeting via eighth-round knockout. The Los Angeles, California native trailed on all three scorecards before he floored then-unbeaten Bohachuk in the eighth to force the stoppage.

The bout took place during the pandemic, under strict COVID restrictions without fans in attendance in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

The two will now get to compete under far brighter lights as part of the biggest event of the year. An estimated crowd of 65,000 is expected for the main event. Even if less than half that total is on hand for the preliminary undercard, it will still dwarf any setting under which Bohachuk and Adams have ever previously appeared during their respective careers.

Despite the big win at the time, Adams was all but punished for upsetting the apple cart. The 36-year-old mid-level contender fought just three times since that night, all of which came in 2024. A four-fight win streak came to an end with his most recent bout, a ten-round split decision defeat to unbeaten Andreas Katzourakis last November 22 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Bohachuk, 26-2 (24 KOs) went on a six-fight win streak following his first career defeat.

The run was capped by a twelve-round, unanimous decision over Brian Mendoza to win the WBC interim 154lbs title last March 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight marked the first time he’d ever gone the distance as a pro.

Bohachuk was extended all twelve rounds in his very next fight, a heartbreaking majority decision defeat to Vergil Ortiz in their Fight of the Year contender last August 10 at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Vegas. Their 12-round slugfest saw Bohachuk twice floor Ortiz – who’d never gone to the scorecards prior to that evening – only to come up just short in the end.

The 30-year-old Ukrainian – now based in Los Angeles – has since won two straight.

He knocked out Ishmael Davis on a December 21 Riyadh Season card, a consolation prize when former WBA 154lbs titlist Israil Madrimov withdrew due to illness.

Bohachuk then went ten rounds in a unanimous decision victory over Mykal Fox on a UFC Fight Pass card on May 17 in Commerce, California. The show was presented by 360 Promotions, Bohachuk’s promoter whose rising 154lbs contender Callum Walsh faces Fernando Vargas, Jnr in the evening’s co-main event to Alvarez-Crawford.

The other five bouts on the preliminary undercard, which goes live at 5:30 p.m. ET on Netflix’s YouTube channel:

- Ivan Dychko, 15-0 (14 KOs), a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist from Kazakhstan faces Michigan’s Jermaine Franklin, 23-2 (15 KOs) in a 10-round heavyweight bout.

- Fast-rising 130lbs rookie Reito Tsustumi, 2-0 (1 KOs), a Ring Magazine ambassador from Tokyo, Japan, meets Dallas’ Javier Martinez, 7-2 (4 KOs), in a scheduled six-round contest.

- Steven Nelson, 20-1 (16 KOs), a longtime Crawford stablemate from Omaha, Nebraska, takes on Cuba’s Raiko Santana, 12-4 (6 KOs) in a round super middleweight affair. Nelson suffered his lone career defeat to Diego Pacheco earlier this year; Santana owns upset wins over Lorenzo Simpson and Joseph George.

- Sultan Almohamed, a 17-year-old junior welterweight, makes his pro debut in a scheduled four-round bout versus Martin Caraballo, 0-0-1, of Hollywood, Florida.

- Mexico’s Marco Verde, 2-0 (1 KO), a 2024 Olympic silver medalist who is managed by Eddy Reynsoso, will appear in a six-round 168lbs bout against an opponent to be determined. Verde’s pro debut came on the May 3 undercard for Alvarez’s unanimous decision win over William Scull to become two-time undisputed 168lbs champion.

WBC Press Release

The WBC has received a ratings appeal by promoter Tom Loeffler concerning junior middleweight contender Serhii Bohachuk. The WBC says it has referred the appeal to the WBC Ratings Appeals Committee for evaluation and ruling. Here is the WBC's publication of Bohachuk's appeal:

"I’m writing to you about Serhii Bohachuk's world rating. He fought an official eliminator for the mandatory position against Ishmael Davis in Riyadh last year. He has been patiently waiting for the mandatory to be ordered. He has been staying active and is scheduled to fight Brandon Adams on the big September 13th Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford show.

"In the latest ratings I noticed that [former welterweight champion] Jaron Ennis [who recently announced his intent to become a junior middleweight] was put in at #1 above Serhii, [who is] now at #2. That doesn’t make sense if Serhii is the mandatory challenger. It also doesn’t make sense as Ennis has never fought in the 154-pound division yet. A third reason it doesn’t make sense is that Ennis is fighting for an official WBA elimination fight in his next fight. I thought the WBC rules take fighters out of the ratings that fight for an eliminator for a different organization

"In light of the above mentioned points, I would respectfully request the ratings committee to restore Serhii Bohachuk to his rightful rating at #1 as the mandatory challenger to the champion.

Tom Loeffler

The WBC added: "As in all previous appeals, the WBC will comply with its appeal rules, and those of the Ali Act, and will notify the result of this process as soon as it is finalized."

Press Release

The WBC recently received a rating appeal from promoter Tom Loeffler regarding junior middlewight Serhii Bohachuk. The WBC has restored Bohachuk to the mandatory contender position in the place of former welterweight champion Jaron Ennis, who announced a move up in weight but has yet to fight as a junior middleweight. The WBC wrote: "The WBC's Ratings Appeals Committee received and resolved the appeal in compliance with the provisions of the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act. A boxer’s rating is based on a subjective determination of his relative merits compared to other contenders in the division at the time, as determined by a majority vote of the WBC Ratings Committee. While the WBC has complied with its own rules and applicable legal requirements, it is reported that the WBC Ratings Appeals Committee, in addition to the WBC Ratings Committee itself, has reviewed this appeal and granted the requested motion, consisting of an order to reinstate Mr. Bohachuk to the top spot." The WBC champion in the division is Sebastian Fundora. Bohachuk is scheduled to fight a rematch vs. his only conqueror, Brandon Adams, on the big September 13th Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford show in Las Vegas.

This is a good fight as neither boxer can afford a loss and maintain title shot aspirations. The fact it's a rematch only adds a little more intrigue to the bout.

Bohachuk was in control of that first fight, with a sizeable lead on all three cards, and his corner warned him that the only thing Adams had going for him was a left hook. Well, that left hook caught Bohachuk, and Adams was able to finish him off.

Can Adams catch lightning in a bottle again? Has Bohachuk learned his lessons? We'll find out Saturday.

SERHII BOHACHUK AIMS TO RETURN THE FAVOR BY BLASTING BRANDON ADAMS IN REMATCH

LAS VEGAS — Serhii Bohachuk is confident of a different outcome when meeting Brandon Adams in a rematch Saturday at Allegiant Stadium.

The 10-round, 156-pound catchweight bout will take place on the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford main event and headline the prelim portion on YouTube before the main card begins on Netflix.

Bohachuk (26-2, 24 KOs) was blasted by “The Canon” Adams (25-4, 16 KOs) when they first met in 2021, as “El Flaco” lost by eighth-round knockout in a fight he was leading comfortably on the cards.

“I made a big mistake four years ago, and I will fix everything in the rematch,” Bohachuk told The Ring. “I was young at the time and did not have enough experience. I didn't know what it felt like to go to a decision. I was feeling tired and I wanted to knock him out. I'm not the same fighter anymore. I'm smarter, have more skills and more experience. I'll be stronger and different in the rematch, I'll be ready.”

Bohachuk was up 69-63 and 68-64 (twice) before getting knocked down with a left hook. Bohachuk valiantly got back up but looked shaky, forcing referee Ramon Pena to stop the fight. At the time, Bohachuk was unbeaten in 18 fights and had stopped everyone he’d faced inside six rounds.

“I didn't lose. I had a great learning experience,” said Bohachuk. “I was pushing and pressing thinking that my chin was iron. He was smart, acting like he was tired while waiting for the one lucky punch. It was a big mistake by me going for the knockout and he taught me a good lesson.”

To better prepare for the sequel, the 30-year-old Ukrainian relocated training camp back to the high-altitude terrain of Big Bear, California, for the first time in five years with coach Manny Robles.

“Big Bear is the best place for me to have my camp,” said Bohachuk. “I'm just training, recovering, eating and sleeping. It's different when you are training at home. There are a lot of distractions. It's just train, train, train. I feel great here.”

Bohachuk has gone 8-1 since Adams. He beat Brian Mendoza last year and almost outlasted Vergil Ortiz Jr. in a barnburner, dropping the Texan twice only to end up on the wrong end of the scorecards by majority decision.

Most recently in May, Bohachuk beat Mykal Fox by unanimous decision.

Adams, meanwhile, wasn’t able to leverage a career-catapulting win. He finally ended three years of inactivity with three fights in seven months last year, the most recent contest being a split-decision defeat against Andreas Katzourakis.

Bohachuk, The Ring’s No. 6-rated 154-pound fighter and No. 1-rated WBC contender, is banking on facing a deteriorated version of Adams.

Adams, a 36-year-old Los Angeles native, is playing up to the notion. Recent footage showed him portraying the role of a greying yet powerful old man.

“Maybe he'll be older and slower in the rematch, and I will feel it,” said Bohachuk. “If that's the case, I will push for the knockout.”

Adams is a tough, throwback fighter but also one that makes you scratch your head. Despite his inactivity, he's got Bohachek's number and has some impressive wins (Mosley Jr, Walker, and Khytrov). But then he got outboxed by Katzourakis, KO'd by Apollo Thompson - Apollo Thompson? - and dominated by Jermall Charlo in a world title fight.

To me, he's the type of fighter you just want to see fight regularly. Adams may never win a world title but he's still fun to watch and always dangerous.

Bit too straight up if you ask me, Adams reflexes and conditioning are superb though
Good boxers might catch him on the full cycles because he might not make them himself
I'm holding him to high standards
I don't know, the jury is out
