totally agree, his articles in Boxing News are excellent, genuine love for the sport.Coco wrote: ↑12 Oct 2023, 17:19Davies is far worse.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑12 Oct 2023, 17:07Understood but Bunce has at least boxed as an am, and doesn't have stupid hair.
While Bunce has let himself down sometimes, he has done a lot of great work

as you started a thread with a thinly veined attempt to defend MTK, I think we can safely consign your opinions on the sport to the dustbin. Along with your begging bowl attempts on here previously.Spud wrote: ↑13 Oct 2023, 07:28Whilst I tentatively agree with you, he is in my humble opinion, one of the most duplicitous characters I have ever had the misfortune of meeting.Coco wrote: ↑12 Oct 2023, 17:19Davies is far worse.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑12 Oct 2023, 17:07

I pick and choose which episodes I listen to these days rather than just blindly pressing play.
Occasionally I will turn it off, it’s certainly not as good as it was when Costello was there to balance the show a little.
I don’t have my major issues with Bunce, perhaps a little sycophantic and disingenuous now and then.

Re: 5 live boxing with Bunce
This week there’s an hour long interview with Eubank Sr who as always is terrible to listen to when he’s offering more than brief sound bites. The last thing he needs is to be indulged for an hour like a king giving an audience to a lowly subject. It was the usual mix of self aggrandising nonsense, misused words and rambling incoherence.
It’s not Buncey’s fault, Eubank is an impossible interviewee for anybody, always has been. The fault lies with the producer who thought it’d be a good idea.
Anyhow, a few mins in Buncey mentions that his wife died last winter “after a bad couple of months”. Sad news and it’s a testament to his professionalism that he carried on with his podcasts and his tv work showing no signs of what he must’ve been going through.
He gets a fair amount of criticism from time to time but he deserves a big up here

That interview must have been excruciating !
Thanks for taking one for the team...I definitely won't be listening to it.
Very sad to hear of Bunce's loss. I hope the boxing fraternity provided him with some support.

Re: 5 live boxing with Bunce
Because we only hear Bunce talk about boxing it was a real shock to hear him reveal that. All those columns and podcasts during what must have been a terrible time.
Maybe if it had still been Costello and Bunce, Mike would have mentioned it at the time because you get the feeling Bunce would have been OK with that. Either way, sad to hear what he's been through.

Not really a fan (I used to be) but as a journo, always tends to go with who is paying him and impartiality goes out of the window.
That said, been awhile since I read or listened to anything he has said so that might have changed?
All that said, a loss like that is devastating, so I hope he is coping as its never easy.

BBC 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce
"The House of Don King"
Bunce is joined by Lennox Lewis in a 4 part series on Don King. I listened to the first podcast today and it's pretty good.

I'm hoping a whole episode is dedicated to the 80s heavyweight scene that King held a real stranglehold.

'Nobody better placed' on BT Sport's team to talk about Black History Month than 57-year-old white man Steve Bunce?
Former world champion David Haye is literally sitting next to him.

'The Darker Side of Boxing' also did a very good 2 part podcast about him a couple of years back
