In terms of weight and where they were ability-wise, this is (arguably) the most competitive scenario of the meeting between these two. Still, not completely sure about it.
But anyway...
Roy Jones from the Hopkins fight vs Sugar Ray from Ayub Kalule fight.
Who wins?
Roy Jones Jr (Hopkins bout) vs Sugar Ray Leonard (Kalule bout)
Re: Roy Jones Jr (Hopkins bout) vs Sugar Ray Leonard (Kalule bout)
154 is the only weight class where Leonard could've realistically beaten Roy Jones Jr, and Roy's lack of Pro Experience at that weight class is how.

Speed kills. Roy Jones Jr was too fast and slick even for a fast fighter like Sugar Ray Leonard.
Jones's speed at 154lbs and 160lbs were insane. Too fast.
Jones by decision.

Jones-Hopkins 1 was a same day weigh-in and it hurt Jones. SRL is giving up weight in this one, obviously, but I like him to win on points over 12 and by late stoppage in a 15 rounder.
Re: Roy Jones Jr (Hopkins bout) vs Sugar Ray Leonard (Kalule bout)
I don't think he'd necessarily be faster than Leonard, but he'd at least be as fast, and he'd be able to exceed Leonard's power. That's where Leonard would be in trouble. I don't think he'd be able to hurt Roy, Roy could probably hurt Leonard.elmersalsa wrote: ↑31 Aug 2025, 16:14 Speed kills.
