Sammy "the Reason" Reeson. I understand why you would say he failed to deliver. I think you mean he wasn't going to cut it at the top level. He actually had a pretty good career all things considered.

The Cruiserweight division was new when Reeson boxed. There was a scarcity of quality at the weight and even then Reeson failed to set the world alight, despite his impressive looking record. The numbers hide a complete lack of quality opposition.

I thought that but then watched the Carlos DeLeon fight back and it wasn't a bad effort from Reeson he just got old manned out the fight. I wouldn't of picked Mccrory to beat DeLeon either.

It was back in the day of get a top rating and just sit their and wait for a world title fight with a couple of pointless fights against non contenders whilst waiting.
Not really learning how to cope at world level.

Back to Mccrory v Reeson , I'd have to say MCCrory but it would be very close.

Don't think McCrory was that good to be honest. Got lucky fighting 2 African heavyweights.

As soon as he fought a genuine contender he holded. Didn't have a punch and couldn't take one, was also weak around the stumoch too. He got lucky with Sky TV too.

Beating Patrick Lumumba for the vacant IBF Cruiserweight title was a good win at the time. Glenn rose to the occasion to produce a career best win.

I remember Sammy Reeson himself saying that McCrory had a slim chance of winning.

Jeff Lampin could hit hard and he folded McCrory in half, but later going the distance with Alfred Cole in an attempt to win back his old title Glenn showed decent form.

McCrory would have benefited from the increase of the Cruiserweight limit from 13st 8lbs to 14st 4lbs that came years later. Struggled to make 13st 8lb but not strong or durable enough tackle heavyweights.

I think it was Reeson who got lucky being around at the beginning of the Cruiserweight division. He'd do well to win a Southern Area title now and I'm not saying that to denigrate his ability as a boxer, but his British title and European title wins (more so the defence of his EBU title) were against poor opponents.
