Clinton Woods injured

Post by jomothepure »

IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods will not fight again this year as he needs corrective surgery to repair a torn tendon in his arm.
The injury, which hampered him in his win over Glen Johnson earlier this month, first emerged last September.

"They need to cut out a piece of muscle in my left forearm, just below the elbow, which has been giving me a lot of pain over the last year," he said.

"I just want it done now so I don't have to worry about it."

To be honest, I wouldn't have thought he'd be fighting again this year anyway. It won't be until Calzaghe-Bika is over that Woods-Calzaghe or alternative routes will come up for discussion again.

I wouldnt like to see Woods have a superfight after his comeback from surgery. Maybe defend the title against a Jason Delisle type opponent then see how the arm is, if its ok then push for Calzaghe, Taver or even Jones or a unification.

I would love to see some order and have Woods unify with Adamek or Erdei, but in reality he will beat contenders until the Calzaghe fight...provided Calzaghe gets by Bika!

I just wander if Johnson's appeal is successful, that Frank can get Johnson vs Calzaghe for the IBF interim title.

That would solve alot of issues regarding getting Calzaghe vs Woods done.

Yes, and it was even fought for in Britain.

Sharmba Mitchell vs Michael Stewart was for the interim championship.
