I can't help myself but the first one was far from sold out. You couldn't give them away at one point.

They weren't. Neither were they for AJ v Dubois. Nowhere near. I'm guessing not for Crawford v Madrimov unless 90% bought on the last day. Turki announces sell outs before the final press conference regardless. I was on the Aj and Benn ticket pages several times a day. It was total bullshit.

Hearn indicates legal action will follow Eubank's astonishing claims at press conference

Chris Eubank Jnr today let rip at Conor Benn, Eddie Hearn, and British Boxing Board of Control boss Robert Smith in a bizarre press conference to promote his return with Benn which is, for now, scheduled to take place on November 15.

Benn, compared to the accusations aimed at Hearn and Smith, got off lightly. Eubank claimed that an ambulance taking him to hospital following their brutal first contest at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was blocked, before specifically taking aim at Smith, calling him a “scumbag” for allowing Benn to use gloves that contained horsehair while questioning fighter safety protocols and exactly where the money from fighters’ fines end up.

Whatever the truth behind and motives for his tirade, that it came during a time of mourning for British boxing legend Ricky Hatton, and moments after those in attendance were asked to reflect on Hatton, might see Eubank fall out of favor with plenty of the fans who were eager to see him beat Benn back in April.

“What a crazy, crazy world we live in today,” Eubank began. “For my entire life as a professional fighter, I have been the villain, the bad guy. Fourteen years and 38 fights of people loving to hate me.

“I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but from what I’m seeing and who I’m talking to, I’m not that guy anymore. People from all walks of life are wishing me luck. But if you talk to that side of the table, Conor Benn is in fact the people’s champ. I mean, wow. Conor Benn, you did it, you’re the people’s champ.

“Conor Benn put on a great performance, he did things I didn’t expect him to do, but I’ll tell you right here and now, Conor Benn, you ain’t no champ. Get that out of your head. Stop letting Eddie Hearn blow smoke up your arse – you’ll end up being even more of an embarrassment than he is.

“They are not men of the people,” he went on, referring to Hearn and Benn, “they are pretending to be the good guys, they are wolves in sheep’s’ clothing, if you will.

“They will screw over anyone they can, they will cut any corners, they will walk over anyone and break any rules, to try and get ahead. They did everything they could to try and destroy me in the last fight.”

What followed were a series of unproven accusations, plenty severe, that Hearn took visible umbrage with. The most serious being that the ambulance in which Eubank found himself in after the fight, for severe dehydration, was blocked from leaving Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for 20 minutes.

Hearn, visibly annoyed, called it “absolutely waffle” and asked Eubank to confirm the accusations. “We will see, my friend,” Hearn said with an indication that legal action could follow.

Later, away from the stage, the promoter pointed out the severity, and implausibility, of Eubank’s claims: “Let’s see what happens over the next 48 hours,” he said. “There is a log of procedures for every fight night, when ambulances arrived, when they left. What he accused us of is unforgettable. When we’re a company as serious as we are, trust me, we’ll deal with that.”

Benn, donning a Manchester City shirt in tribute to Hatton, stayed calm throughout. “I take my hat off to him," he said of Eubank. "We all need a dancing partner. I underestimated him, I genuinely thought I’d knock him out in three or four rounds. He gave me one hell of a fight and it was one hell of a fight... But I will do whatever it takes to win [the rematch]."

The first fight was a titanic affair, won on points after 12 rounds by Eubank. Benn played his part, however, often belying his lack of experience at elite level and as a middleweight in the process.

The three judges scored the contest 116-112 for Eubank, who endured a cut over the right eye following a clash of heads in the ninth round. Thrilling though it might have been, and it really was edge-of-the-seat fare, the long and winding build-up to it – littered by, amongst other things, Benn failing PED tests, court cases, boxing licences ripped up, eggs smashed on faces, fines administered, and concerns about Eubank safely making weight – coupled with the aftermath which resulted in both fighters in hospital, and now today’s events, might leave some observers watching what follows through their fingertips.

CHRIS EUBANK LAUNCHES SCATHING ATTACK ON BRITISH BOXING BOARD OF CONTROL

Chris Eubank Jr. launched an astonishing attack on the British Boxing Board of Control and its General Secretary Robert Smith at the press conference to formally announce his anticipated rematch with Conor Benn.

Nearly five months on from their epic 12-round battle on the pitch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Eubank and Benn returned Wednesday to the scene for this press conference ahead of their rematch on Nov. 15.

And while both fighters talked briefly of their new-found respect for each other given their all-action clash in the main event of The Ring’s Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves event, Eubank decided to use the platform to take aim at the Board and Smith, who he labelled a "toad."

Eubank, who beat Benn via unanimous decision, was fined £100,000 for hitting his opponent with an egg during one of their launch press conferences and then had to cough up a further £10,000 for a breach of social media use after he posted videos of his gruelling weight-making process.

The biggest hit to his earnings, however, came when he missed the contracted weight by around half an ounce. For that breach of contract, he had to pay £500,000 of his fight purse to Benn. Eubank, however, laid the blame at the feet of Smith.

He also referenced the fact that Billy Joe Saunders, a former opponent and perhaps an even more bitter rival than Benn, was allowed backstage to watch Eubank's hands being wrapped. The middleweight's security guard, however, refused to let Saunders enter.

“I want to talk about something else,” Eubank said midway through the 30-minute press conference.. “I want to talk about the British Boxing Board of Control and more specifically, a man by the name of Robert Smith.

“This is the big boss behind the scenes, the head honcho, the man with all the power that controls everything that goes on in professional boxing inside the UK. This guy is a big deal, he really is.

“This idiot allowed a room full of media and cameramen into my private weigh-in the day before the fight. The time that it took to get these people out contributed to me missing the weight and getting fined £500k.

“He let Conor Benn fight in gloves filled with horsehair knowing that it was a direct breach of the contract I had for this fight.

“On fight night he personally escorted an arch nemesis of mine, Billy Joe Saunders, to my changing room to disrupt and try and ruin my preparations for the biggest fight of my life.

“Then afterwards he gets into the ring and tries to shake my hand and congratulate me. I mean, the balls on this guy. It’s viciously clear for me to see that this toad is nothing more than a puppet and a pawn.

“I think he is in the back pockets of Matchroom and Eddie Hearn. So unfortunately, just another scumbag in this treacherous and under-handed industry we find ourselves in. It’s unfortunate.”

But Eubank’s tirade did not stop there. He also claimed that the ambulance which took him to the hospital straight after the fight was delayed by 20 minutes, and asked why the Board failed to investigate that.

He then called for more transparency on where exactly the money raised from the fines has gone.

He added: “Now continuing on from that, the British Boxing Board of Control opened several investigations into some of the things I did in the lead up to the fight. No investigations, by the way, into why my ambulance was stopped from leaving the stadium for 20 minutes.

“But I guess trying to find out why I was talking about being in a sauna before the fight is much more important.

“Anyway, the Board have graciously awarded me with a multitude of fines over the last six months, and my question is, where is this money going? The Boxing Board of Control are supposed to be supporting the foundations and governing the community of boxing in Great Britain.

“So in my eyes, the money that I’ve been fined should be going to the community, should be going to kids that can’t afford equipment, should be going to local gyms or to fighters who have suffered injuries. As far as I can see it, that’s not happening. ...

“I’m asking the media to shine a light on this situation and find out where all this money is going. Because it’s not going to the community, I’ll tell you that now.”

Of course Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn was not immune to Eubank’s outburst. The pair have a long-standing feud, and Eubank accused the Matchroom boss of being ‘ruthless, immoral and without restraint’.

He gestured toward Benn and Hearn and said: “These are not men of the people. They’re pretending to be the good guys, Wolves in sheep’s clothing if you will. They will do anything they can and screw anyone over they can to try and get ahead. They are ruthless, immoral and without restraint.

“They did everything they could to try and destroy me in the last fight; contract breaches, fines, rehydration clauses, sabotaged weigh-in, biased commentary and refereeing. The list goes on, it’s endless.”

In response, Hearn said: “You’re talking about… we put things in place that you signed to do. You signed. We see through your games. We will see.”

The Ring reached out to Robert Smith in relation to Eubank’s comments but at the time of writing there was no response.

Here’s some excerpts...

Benn on lessons learned from Eubank loss
“It’s always hard processing a loss. Nobody prepares to lose as far as we want to do our best, but ultimately we want to get the victory at all costs. It taught me a lot about myself, want to go back to the drawing board and work and learn and gain experience and experience was gained. So no doubt November 15th you get a better version.”

Eubank on whether he has more respect for Benn after their first fight
“What a crazy, crazy world we live in today. For my entire life as a professional fighter I have been the villain and the bad guy. 14 years and 38 fights of people loving to hate me. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself but from what I’m seeing online, interactions I’m having with people all over the world in the streets, I don’t know if I’m that guy anymore. It’s not just boxing fans that are approaching me now, it’s little girls, elderly folk, housewives, people that really have nothing to do with boxing and they’re all greeting me and they’re all wishing me the best of luck. It’s humbling.

“One thing I know for sure is that Conor Benn, he put on a great fight, he went out there and he did what I did not expect him to do but I’m going to tell you right here and now you ain’t no champ, and you most definitely ain’t no people’s champ so get that out of your head. You keep letting Eddie Hearn blow smoke up your ass and you’re going to get up being even more of an embarrassment than he is.

“These men are not the men of the people. They are pretending. They are pretending to be the good guys. Wolves in sheep’s clothing, if you will. They will do anything they can, they will screw over anybody they can, they will cut any corners, they will break any rules they can to try to get ahead. Ruthless, immoral, and without restraint these men are.

“They did everything they could to try to destroy me in this last fight. Contract breaches, fines, rehydration clauses, sabotaged weigh-in, biased commentary and refereeing. The list goes on and on, it’s endless. Even on fight night they blocked my team from coming to the stadium for 30 minutes, and when I arrive they have security walking in front of my car trying to slow me down and stall me as much as possible to make me late.

“It’s incredible the level these guys will stoop to. I finally get into the stadium, get into my changing room, preparing, they’re sending idiots to try and disrupt me in my changing room. We get through that, I go out there outside these walls and I win the fight.

“Now after the fight, due to severe dehydration, I’m put in an ambulance and I have to go to hospital. I was actually so dehydrated that actually one of the toe nails on my big toe fell off…I’m in the ambulance and these scumbags blocked the ambulance from leaving the stadium for 20 minutes…I’m laying there in a gurney, oxygen mask on, and the car cannot move, they will not open the gates to let us leave.

“Now if this was a serious injury that I sustained, that 20 minutes could’ve been the difference between life and death. And while this was all happening Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn were in here talking to the media, lying about how I had a broken jaw and that was the reason why I was going to hospital. Bullshit artists of the highest degree.”

Eddie Hearn would fire back at Eubank Jr as you might expect, daring him to explicitly accuse his company of wrongdoing, presumably to get grounds for a defamation lawuit. So, pretty much a run of the mill press conference between these folks, but Eubank wasn’t done.

“You know what, I want to talk about something else,” Eubank said. “I want to talk about the British Boxing Board of Control and more specifically a man by the name of Robert Smith. This is the big boss behind the scenes…Guy’s a big deal, he really is. Now this idiot allowed a room full of media and cameramen into my private weigh-in a day before the fight. The time it took to get these people out contributed to me missing the weight and getting fined 500k.

I think he is in the back pockets of Matchroom and Eddie Hearn. So just unfortunately another scumbag in this treacherous and underhanded business we find ourselves in.”

I’ve lost track with the outcome of Benn and his failed tests but didn’t he say he wasn’t given a ban? Just watching that Netflix show on Matchroom and they are covering the Benn saga and Benn is filmed on the telephone to Frank Smith saying “it’s been two years back dated until October”?

it's like they're trying to drum up drama for the second fight. I've quite enjoyed not seeing or hearing Eddie Hearn recently so I'll be skipping this fight again
