Bohachuk-Adams II, five more bouts confirmed for Canelo-Crawford undercard

Serhii Bohachuk and Brandon Adams will enjoy a far greater stage for their rematch than was the case for their first meeting more than four years ago.

White’s Zuffa Boxing will present the event along with boxing’s top powerbroker, Turki Alalshikh, along with Canelo Promotions and Crawford’s TBC Fights, LLC.

The other five bouts on the preliminary undercard, which goes live at 5:30 p.m. ET on Netflix’s YouTube channel:

- Ivan Dychko, 15-0 (14 KOs), a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist from Kazakhstan faces Michigan’s Jermaine Franklin, 23-2 (15 KOs) in a 10-round heavyweight bout.

- Fast-rising 130lbs rookie Reito Tsustumi, 2-0 (1 KOs), a Ring Magazine ambassador from Tokyo, Japan, meets Dallas’ Javier Martinez, 7-2 (4 KOs), in a scheduled six-round contest.

- Steven Nelson, 20-1 (16 KOs), a longtime Crawford stablemate from Omaha, Nebraska, takes on Cuba’s Raiko Santana, 12-4 (6 KOs) in a round super middleweight affair. Nelson suffered his lone career defeat to Diego Pacheco earlier this year; Santana owns upset wins over Lorenzo Simpson and Joseph George.

- Sultan Almohamed, a 17-year-old junior welterweight, makes his pro debut in a scheduled four-round bout versus Martin Caraballo, 0-0-1, of Hollywood, Florida.

- Mexico’s Marco Verde, 2-0 (1 KO), a 2024 Olympic silver medalist who is managed by Eddy Reynsoso, will appear in a six-round 168lbs bout against an opponent to be determined. Verde’s pro debut came on the May 3 undercard for Alvarez’s unanimous decision win over William Scull to become two-time undisputed 168lbs champion.

Yep this sums it up. If he wins comfortably it's going to look like he's an idiot for taking this long to step up.

Dychko has also only left the third round once, against a journeyman that he won 9 rounds against. Franklin went 12 with Joshua and Whyte without looking close to being stopped once.

Dychko has had less pro experience than Franklin, who's been in with fighters like Joshua. And at age 35, Dychko is already past his prime. Dychko may have had some potential several years ago, but after years of being poorly managed and promoted, not now.

I expect Franklin to win by decision.

JERMAINE FRANKLIN’S PROMOTER PREDICTS PUTTING PRESSURE ON IVAN DYCHKO WILL MAKE HIM ‘FOLD’ ON CANELO-CRAWFORD UNDERCARD

Jermaine Franklin felt he couldn’t turn down his biggest challenge, literally and figuratively, since his loss to Anthony Joshua in April 2023.

Returning from a 15-month layoff against an undefeated, 6-foot-9 puncher isn’t ideal. The exposure of facing Ivan Dychko on the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford undercard should make that risk well worthwhile, however. Franklin and Dychko will fight on the YouTube portion of the show, which is set for Sept. 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Dychko (15-0, 14 KOs) has knocked out 93 percent of his opponents as a professional. Franklin (23-2, 15 KOs), of Saginaw, Michigan, isn't that kind of puncher, but Dmitriy Salita, Franklin’s promoter, sees flaws in Dychko that the skillful Franklin can expose.

“Ivan Dychko is a talented fighter,” Salita told The Ring. “He can box. Based on what I’ve seen with him, if you give him distance and you allow him to dictate the pace, then his power and his skills usually prevail. But if you put pressure on him and are kind of physical with him, he kind of folds and doesn’t react well.

“And you’ve seen that since he was an amateur. Although he has some great wins, he also has some explosive losses as well. He’s a very good fighter, but if Jermaine shows up at his best, I believe he has the skills to beat Dychko. What a great fight, by the way.”

Facing Franklin, 31, is a step up in competition for Dychko, a decorated amateur whose pro record has been built against a low level of opposition since he debuted in September 2017. Dychko stopped onetime contender Aleksandr Ustinov in the first round in December 2021, but Ustinov was knocked out in the first round of his previous bout and four times overall before he faced Dychko.

The 6-foot-2 Franklin has been beaten only by Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs), a former unified heavyweight champion, and two-time championship challenger Dillian Whyte (31-4, 21 KOs). He lost those two 12-round bouts on points, so Salita expects Franklin to withstand Dychko’s power in their 10-rounder.

Dychko has won twice since Franklin’s last fight, a technical knockout of faded 2004 U.S. Olympian Devin Vargas (22-11, 9 KOs) after six one-sided rounds in May 2024. However, the two-time Olympic bronze medalist from Kazakhstan has logged less than five rounds combined over the past three years.

“I think that if the Jermaine that fought Dillian Whyte shows up, he beats Dychko,” Salita said. “Jermaine has not been as active as I would’ve liked for him to be, but he does stay in the gym, and he is taking this fight seriously.

"Even though the fight was announced [Tuesday], it’s been done for a month or so. He’s been training, and he’s gonna come in, I believe, in good condition.”

ah, surely worth a punt by a big promoter? I presume he is US based and managed/promoted by someone there as most of his fights have been there. Just seen he beat Hrgovic in the ams too. Hell of an am record. Perhaps if he wins this well he'll get up there as Franklin is well known.

IVAN DYCHKO READY FOR TOUGHEST TEST OF CAREER VS. JERMAINE FRANKLIN

Sept. 13 could set the stage for another heavyweight contender to emerge.

Ivan Dychko, a 6-foot-9, undefeated knockout artist from Kazakhstan, will face the toughest test of his career when he takes on Jermaine Franklin Jr. on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Netflix.

In light of the magnitude of the show and the opponent, Dychko believes he’ll be entering a new stratosphere in his career.

“I think that this is a new level for me,” Dychko told The Ring via a translator. “This is a big event in the world, and this is a big event for me.”

“He has good experience [and] he has some good skills. I am preparing for a good fight,” Dychko added.

Dychko (15-0, 14 KOs) was a decorated amateur and had served as a sparring partner for former heavyweight champions Wladimir Klitschko, Anthony Joshua, and Deontay Wilder, plus former title challenger Luis Ortiz. However, his career has been marred by inactivity since entering the pro ranks in 2017. After fighting nine times from 2017 to 2019, Dychko, 35, fought only six times from 2021 to this year. And in that span, he fought more than once only in 2021.

His bout against Franklin (23-2, 15 KOs) will mark just the first time since then that he’s had more than one fight in a calendar year. In his last bout, on July 19, Dychko knocked Samuel Crossed out in the first round. Of his 14 wins inside the distance, eight have come in the first round.

Franklin, 31, has won two straight since suffering the lone losses of his career, decision defeats to Joshua and former title challenger Dillian Whyte.

Given the stakes, Dychko knows his fight against Franklin is the most important of his career. And with opportunity at hand, Dychko believes that he’ll deliver the kind of performance that’ll earn him the big fights he seeks.

“It's going to be an important fight in my career,” Dychko said. “It may be a hard fight, but emotionally, I'm calm, I'm relaxed. I don’t feel pressure. … The fans will see beautiful boxing and a beautiful KO from me.“

Jermaine Franklin warns Ivan Dychko to watch his mouth

Jermaine Franklin is readying himself to teach a lesson to Ivan Dychko, declaring he will knock him out ahead of their 10-round heavyweight bout on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The bout will be featured on the prelims of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Terence Crawford.

Franklin, 23-2 (15 KOs), is eager to return to the ring, but recent comments from his opponent have added extra motivation for Franklin.

“He said he is going to knock me out, but he doesn’t want to trade punches with me,” Franklin told BS. “That is the last thing he will do.”

Franklin, a 31-year-old from Saginaw, Michigan, fought Dillian Whyte to a majority decision loss in 2022. Then six months later, he faced Anthony Joshua losing a unanimous decision. Despite the losses, Franklin got familiar with fighting on a big stage, but he also learned a lot about himself and what makes him a difficult opponent for fighters at the highest level of the sport.

“I have learned I am a bit awkward for other heavyweights,” Franklin said. “They have trouble attacking because of my style and how I move around and stuff.”

“I realized that during the Joshua fight or a little before it,” Franklin said. “I think for four rounds I had him shocked and worried, because he couldn’t do what he wanted to do.”

Franklin says in that fight, he lost his focus, citing various reasons. He has since rebounded by winning two fights in Detroit. One was against unbeaten Isaac Munoz Gutierrez, and his last victory came last year against Devin Vargas. For his fight against Dychko, 15-0 (14 KOs), Franklin has had a full camp.

“Honestly, I didn’t know if it was going to happen,” Franklin said. “I knew about this fight six weeks out.”

Dychko, a 35-year-old fighter from Kazakhstan, turned professional in 2017 - two years after Franklin - but hasn’t fought at the same heights as a professional. As an amateur, he holds wins over two-time Olympic gold medalist Bakhodir Jalolov and Efe Ajagba.

“I think he respects me a little bit, but he said he is going to knock me out, so I don’t think he respects me that much,” Franklin said. “I embrace all the punishment, it turns me up. When someone says they are going to do that, I want to see what they can bring.”

dychko clearly deserved to get the decision, but he boxed the exact negative way turki has been telling guys not to do on his cards....franklin hardly landed much of note but was the one coming forward looking like he wanted it.
