Errol Spence Jr
There was much more buzz and anticipation regarding Bud-Spence than there was for Bud-Canelo as two of the very top fighters of the weight class fighting each other, but after the masterclass performance and demolition Bud put on it seems the magnitude of the fight was almost totally forgotten. It's like it wasn't considered the huge win that it was for Bud because of how easy work it seemed for him. I think the match showed not that Spence wasn't elite but how great Crawford really is. It's peculiar how Spence's name was hardly mentioned at all during the build-up to the Canelo fight. For me it was much a bigger victory than the latest one.

Re: Errol Spence Jr
Why would anybody be talking about Spence Jr in the run up to the Canelo/Crawford fight?
If you don't fight, you become irrelevant.
Spence last fought over 2 years ago and still doesn't have an opponent or fight date set in stone.
If Spence was charismatic, a good talker and had a strong social media profile, he'd be able to remain relevant whilst not fighting, but, unfortunately for Spence, he's none of those things.
It seems as if Crawford has broken him and taken his soul.

Re: Errol Spence Jr
Because of the debate about Crawford not facing a single elite opponent in his past. Postol was mentioned, Burns for some reason was mentioned, Spence was not. In the netflix documentary series there were parts on history and the making of Canelo and Bud and what they had accomplished in the ring, and not a single word about the Spence fight. I thought it was weird.Syntax Error wrote: ↑20 Sep 2025, 06:28 Why would anybody be talking about Spence Jr in the run up to the Canelo/Crawford fight?

Re: Errol Spence Jr
I guess it was because alot of people tried to downplay his win over Spence, saying it wasn’t as big because Spence had been through car crashes and wasn’t the same anymore.
But that kind of takes away from how dominant Bud actually was. He made it look easy because of how great he is, not because Spence wasn’t elite.
Bud said it before: They always find ways to downplay his wins.

Yes, I agree with you.
The weird thing is that Crawford himself didn't mention Spence as a great name, even though Errol was arguably the most accomplished opponent he'd faced up until that point.

Spence didn't look past his best against Danny Garcia and Yordenis Ugas.
Crawford made Spence look completely ordinary.
Crawford is a league above and a true generational great.

Spence flew the coup along with his Ferrari ages ago. He never recovered his mojo clearly seen in the Ugh fight where he needed All Time Great Texas Idiot Laurence Cole to protect him.
Net result is Craw got his first decent pay day out of Spence.
So finally Craw gets a fight with the disinterested Canelo thanks to Turki's largess, but he's 38 and has no place to go to unless Canelo decides to rematch.
Or Canelo can ditch 168 and fight Bena for the WBC at LH that would be one of the Biggest a Mexican Fights Ever.
It don't matter to me as Boxing in general has shown how weak it is thanks to Jake Paul who's got Amanda Serrano vs Katie Taylor out drawing Canelo/Crawford...yeah...

There's no way in hell that Serrano vs Taylor 3 did better numbers than Crawford vs Canelo.BroughtonRulesRefuge wrote: ↑20 Sep 2025, 11:36- Answer: Because this is boxing with some of the dumbest sports fans in history.Syntax Error wrote: ↑20 Sep 2025, 06:28 Why would anybody be talking about Spence Jr in the run up to the Canelo/Crawford fight?

Understandably the rematch did huge numbers because it was on Tyson-Paul undercard.
