I came across Samuel Peter-Oleg Maskaev fight on YouTube just recently and noticed Valuev being there in the ring, supporting Maskaev.

As we know, Peter will go on to stop Maskaev and claim WBC belt.

Few months later, Valuev will grab the vacant WBA title, winning a debatable decision over John Ruiz.

Both Peter and Valuev were promoted by Don King at the time.

Let's say, Vitali wouldn't have announced his comeback to the ring or, for instance, King would've used his connections within sanctioning bodies to set up a WBC/WBA unification between Peter and Valuev.
