I'd lean towards Toney.

After you created a thread, I actually went back and rewatched Toney-Barkley. That was, perhaps, Toney's best career performance. I honestly think, that this version of Toney could've stopped Canelo from past Saturday.

Comparing Crawford's inside work against Canelo with Toney's inside work against Barkley - Toney seems to have faster hands and his combos looked more lethal (with more power) than Crawford's.

Now, it would be fair to note the style thing. Crawford, of course, would be giving Toney more movement and angles. But it's unlikely, that Terence would've controlled the range. Toney would be the taller and longer fighter here.

Given both fighter's characters, we'd see them duking it out on the inside. Given my above notes, I think Toney would be having an upper hand in trenches.

I'd make Toney the favourite in this match-up.

I'd take Toney. He'd be smart enough to actually use his physicality and shove Crawford to the ropes where he could make it an inside fight, which He'd get the better of.

He beat a guy in Barkley who didn't last three minutes with Nigel Benn, it wasn't a standout win. I'd take Crawford on points.

James "Lights Out" Toney. When in great shape, he was in a different class. A complete fighter. Toney by decision.

Toney was a terrific inside fighter. He was one of the top 10 most complete boxers of the last 60 years.

If Roy Jones could trick Toney, would Crawford be enough slick to do the same? Of course, against Barkley he was in a better shape than vs Jones, but Toney's style overall could fail against highly elusive outfighters.

Roy Jones, Jr was an exception. He wasn't human. He was from another planet back in 1994 when he whupped James "Lights Out" Toney.

Jones's timing, agility, speed and power were too much for Toney to handle. Plus, Toney wasn't in the best of shape. So he made Super Roy way better than what he was.

I can see Crawford being able to frustrate Toney. Toney could be frustrated by movers and/or volume punchers. And especially, when Toney wasn't fully up for the fight.

But he was on his A-game against Barkley. So, it's probably would've been a different story.

As good as Crawford looked past Saturday, I don't see him replicating Roy (who could've replicated prime Roy?)... And I'm not sure he had the type of volume, that could've overwhelmed Toney.

But the more we speak about this fight, the more interesting it gets for me. I'll probably give it a deeper think.

Toney on points. Bud doesn't come close to Jones' speed. Plus, as mentioned earlier, Toney is the taller man and this is to his advantage .

I agree with you. James "Lights Out" Toney was a terrific fighter. He just had some lackadaisical moments when he didn't take training very seriously. But, he was a great fighter with warrior's mentality that fought anybody, any place and at any time.

His performance against Iran "The Blade" Barkley was enough to consider him one of boxing's greatest technicians. Lights Out was a complete fighter. One of the most complete boxers that I have ever seen.

But Nigel Benn had already beaten the nearly blind Barkley in less than three minutes. Are you saying Barkley was an elite fighter at 168?

Yes. He became a triple crown champion at that. Iran "The Blade" Barkley should be in the hall of fame. If overrated Barry McGuigan is in, then Barkley and others should be in.

I want you to say which elite boxer James Toney beat at 168? Please don't say Iran Barkley, because when you do, it makes you sound as thick as mince.

And why Iran Barkley wasn't elite? He was the champion when James Toney beat him, right?
