Terence Crawford vs Gennady Golovkin

Post by 2128778 »

Ring Magazine posted a thread couple of days ago regarding Prime Terence Crawford vs Prime GGG.

Tough to say what is considered Crawford's prime, given how good he still looks. Just coming off his biggest win at the age of 38.

Meanwhile, 2010-2015 is widely considered to be GGG's prime. Mainly because he wasn't in a competitive match during this time period. As soon as Brook was able to put hands on GGG, Golovkin's prime ended (in fans' view).

In my estimation, Golovkin was still pretty good up till (and including) the 2nd Canelo fight.

So, let's look at 2 scenarios:

1) Crawford from the Canelo fight goes down to Middleweight to fight Golovkin of 2018;

2) Golovkin from about 2017-2018 moves up to SMW and challenges Crawford for all his belts and Undisputed status.

Who do you see prevailing?

The thing about Crawford is, who has even run him close? Not even Canelo.

Golovkin wins. Sound fundamentals and his power wins the day. Crawfird would not have beaten a prime Alvarez. Nothing against TC, He's a true great.

Yeah, I was thinking to myself - Golovkin had the size, educated pressure, quality and strong jab, ability to cut off the ring and combination punching. These are some of the elements (size aside) that Canelo lacked against Crawford.

Surely, Crawford should also be given credit for making Canelo look the way he looked.

But just overall - stylistically, Golovkin would've been a tougher match-up for Crawford.

I agree with Ezzard- a peak Canelo beats Crawford. GGG on a decision.

If Canelo Alvarez wasn't prime, Terence "Bud" Crawford was not either when he beat Canelo. End of story.

I would pick GGG over Crawford.
