Azim-Abdullaev, Catterall-Essuman, Riakporhe-Welch announced for Eubank-Benn II undercard

The undercard for the Chris Eubank-Conor Benn II undercard has been announced, and it features Adam Azim, Richard Riakporhe and Jack Catterall in separate bouts.

The show, staged by The Ring in conjunction with Riyadh Season, Boxxer, Matchroom and Sela, takes place on November 15 at Tottenham Hotspur.

Slough’s fast-handed junior welterweight Azim is 13-0 (10 KOs) and ranked No. 8 by the WBC and No. 10 by the IBF. He’s matched with 20-2 (12 KOs) Armenia-based Russian Zaur Abdullaev, the IBF’s No. 9 at lightweight, who is coming off a May loss to Raymond Muratalla in his last fight.

Catterall, ranked by all four major governing bodies at welterweight, meets in-form Nottingham man Ekow Essuman, 22-1 (8 KOs), who scored the win of his career to defeat former undisputed champion Josh Taylor earlier in the year.

It will be Catterall’s first fight since linking up with trainer Derrick “Bozy” Ennis, having left Jamie Moore’s gym.

Catterall, 32-2 (13 KOs), won a technical decision over Harlem Eubank in July after their fight was stopped following a clash of heads thatsaw the contest stopped after the seventh round.

Riakporhe, who moved up to heavyweight after a WBO cruiserweight title challenge of Chris Billam-Smith, will fight Brighton’s Tommy Welch, son of former heavyweight title challenger Scott Welch.

Billy Nelson-trained Londoner Riakporhe is 18-1 (14 KOs) and won his first heavyweight fight when stopping 9-9 Kevin Nicolas Espindola in round four in Saudi Arabia in May.

Welch is 16-0 (9 KOs).

The run of tough fights continues for Ishmael Davis, too, at Tottenham Hotspur’s Stadium where Davis meets Sam Gilley.

Davis, 13-3 (6 KOs) and from Leeds, has lost his last three, to Josh Kelly, Serhii Bohachuk and, most recently, to Caoimhin Agyarko in Belfast earlier this month. Gilley is 18-1-1 (9 KOs) and the 31-year-old junior middleweight is hoping to get back to winning ways after an eight-round draw against Gideon Onyenani in Ipswich in June.

The show, called Unfinished Business, also sees Joe Gallagher-trained flyweight prospect Mikie Tallon, 10-0 (1 KO), box Bradford’s 4-2-2 Fezan Shahid.

Abdullaev is a good step up from Davies and Lipinets. Constantly pushes forward, has a good jab and is patient (sometimes to a fault). His two losses come to world champions. I think Azim UD is the pick to make but the longer the fight goes, the more interesting it'll get

Eubank Jr. vs. Benn: Adam Azim, Jack Catterall on undercard

Adam Azim and Jack Catterall will return to action on the undercard of the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn rematch on Nov. 15 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Azim (13-0, 10 KOs) is working toward a shot at a junior welterweight world title having knocked out former champion Sergey Lipinets in February. He will fight Russian Zaur Abdullaev in November.

Twenty-three-year-old Azim is one of Britain's most promising rising stars but has been inactive since the fight against Lipinets at the start of the year with promotional company BOXXER changing broadcast partners. BOXXER's deal with Sky Sports ended in June before the company, run by promoter Ben Shalom, announced a deal with the BBC in August.

Matchroom's Catterall, who is also hopeful of challenging for a title soon, will return to the ring against Ekow Essuman.

Catterall (31-2, 13 KOs) fell short in a world title eliminator against Arnold Barboza Jr. in February before a controversial win over Harlem Eubank in July. The Chorley fighter will face Essuman (22-1, 8 KOs) who beat his former rival Josh Taylor in May in what promises to be an intriguing high-stakes fight.

The undercard will also feature British cruiserweight-turned-heavyweight Richard Riakporhe against Tommy Welch, while junior middleweight Ishmael Davis takes on Sam Gilley.

ZAUR ABDULLAEV WITHDRAWS, ADAM AZIM TO REMAIN ON EUBANK-BENN CARD

One of the notable matchups on the undercard of the rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn on November 15 in London has fallen off.

The Ring has learned that Zaur Abdullaev (20-2, 12 KOs) has withdrawn from his fight against junior welterweight upstart Adam Azim (13-0, 10 KOs) because of an issue obtaining a visa. Abdullaev has chosen not to move forward with the fight, but Azim will remain on the card against an opponent that will soon be determined.

Azim, a 23-year-old from Berkshire, United Kingdom, is looking to further build momentum on his burgeoning career following back-to-back knockout wins against Ohara Davies in October of last year and Sergey Lipinets in February.

Abdullaev, meanwhile, was looking to get back into the win column after dropping a unanimous decision against Raymond Muratalla in May for the interim IBF lightweight title. Muratalla has since been elevated to be the full champion.

Abdullaev's loss to Muratalla ended a winning streak at nine fights. The only other defeat of the 31-year-old Russian's career came against Devin Haney via fourth-round stoppage in 2019.

Adam Azim-Kurt Scoby Set For Eubank-Benn II Undercard, Nov. 15

After weeks of negotiations with potential replacements, Adam Azim now has one locked in for next weekend's big show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 23-year-old junior welterweight talent will face his first American opponent in the form of Kurt Scoby (18-1, 16 KOs) after it was today confirmed a deal had been reached between their respective teams to feature as part of the five-fight Chris Eubank Jr-Conor Benn II undercard.

Scoby, trained by Hector Bermudez, has scored a trio of stoppage victories during an active 2025 campaign and was already in-line to box again on November 8 against Argentine journeyman Cristian Ruben Mino. His lone defeat came via sixth-round stoppage by inconsistent Dakota Linger in April 2024, with the 31-year-old since moving to welterweight.

Last week, a deal was close and with little under two weeks before fight night, the change has been made official. Azim was originally slated to box former IBF interim world title challenger Zaur Abdullaev (20-2, 12 KOs) before he withdrew due to visa issues.

From the one fight I have seen of Scoby, he tries to box like a B-tec Broner, but does looks physically strong.

Adam is razor fast and a stiff puncher. Don't think Scoby will come out on top here.

Hopefully, it will be a good fight and Adam might get some kind of test.

Adam Azim on new opponent Kurt Scoby: 'It's nothing different to be fair'

Adam Azim will face Kurt Scoby on the November 15 undercard of the Chris Eubank vs. Conor Benn rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Azim had been left without an opponent following the withdrawal of Zaur Abdullaev last week due to issues with his visa.

The 30-year-old Scoby, 18-1 (16 KOs), has not fought in the class of Abdullaev - or Azim - but accepts the late-notice invitation after winning five in a row since he was beaten by Dakota Linger in 2024. Azim will start as a huge favorite.

"It's nothing different to be fair," said Azim, 13-0 (10 KOs). "The strategy is still the same. I'm ready for anyone, regardless of a new opponent or not, I'm always ready and I hope to put on a great performance on the night."

Azim has been out of action since February, when he halted Sergey Lipinets in nine rounds. Since then, his promoter Boxxer saw their contract with UK broadcaster Sky Sports come to an end before agreeing a deal with the BBC. It has nonetheless proved to be an unproductive stretch for Azim as his projected July opponent, Eliot Chavez, pulled out at the last minute.

Efforts to make fights with the likes of Regis Prograis ultimately came to nothing.

Almost as soon as Adam Azim opened his eyes, he knew something was not quite right.

His fight with Eliot Chavez was only hours away but the usual buzz of a fight morning was absent in the hotel when he woke up.

“Usually someone will come and wake me up or knock on the door and check everything’s good,” Azim says to The Ring. “There are always people around and I can hear the team from my bedroom.

“But that morning I woke up and nobody was around, not even my dad or anyone else from the team.

“I thought it felt strange but decided to start getting switched on for the fight like I normally do. I put on some boxing videos and started shadow boxing but then I got a knock at the door.

“I open it and there’s Shane [McGuigan] who looks a bit upset and angry. I asked him what was going on and he just said ‘fight’s off’.”

Chavez, the 30-year-old Mexican, had been photographed in a sauna during his weight cut and, as per British Boxing Board of Control rules, would not be allowed to fight Azim as a result. Given it was fight day, there would be no chance of securing a late opponent.

What that incident means is that precocious junior welterweight Azim (13-0, 10 KOs), who is still just 23, has now not boxed since February 1 meaning that 2025 was turning into an alarmingly inactive year for a man who had been climbing rapidly towards world title level. That the lay-off followed the best win of his career, the ninth-round stoppage of former world champion Sergey Lipinets, made it even harder to take.

“That performance was probably the best of my life,” Azim says of the win at Wembley Arena.

“The only person to have stopped him before me was Jaron Ennis so my performance reflects that I did well and I now deserve to be on the world stage.

“Obviously then I wanted to build on that in June but to get that news that my fight was off so late was frustrating.

“Overall It has been a frustrating period for me, especially that incident in June. Imagine waking up in the morning, ready to go but then I get a knock at the door saying my fight is off.

"But everything happens for a reason and I think I’m in a better position right now anyway because I’m going to be fighting on a huge show.”

Now five months on from the fight that never was, Azim will face California-born Kurt Scoby (18-1, 16 KOs) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of the undercard for Chris Eubank Jr’s rematch with Conor Benn on November 15, live on DAZN.

Azim had been expecting to fight Zaur Abdullaev on the show until a visa issue prevented the Armenia-based Russian from proceeding with the fight.

“I don’t really mind who I fight,” Azim says. “The result will be the same.

“What I want is the opportunity to put on a show on a great card like this which is full of other great fighters. The goal is the same for me regardless of who my opponent is.

“I’m always stepping up through the levels and performing in the ring when it matters. I feel like I’m progressing well and I want to be world champion at some point in 2026. I’m not looking past my next opponent but that’s my goal.”

Azim is currently The Ring’s No. 10 ranked junior welterweight while he has also cracked the top 10 with two of the four major sanctioning bodies. A victory over Scoby will help to boost him even further up the rankings and also pave the way for a big fight in February.

It is understood that Boxxer, his long-time promoter, are hoping to build a BBC show that month with Azim topping the bill. A big victory on terrestrial television could supercharge his crossover appeal before he pauses for the holy month of Ramadan, which runs from February 17 to March 18 in 2026.

“That is most definitely the plan,” he added. “Straight after this fight, if I win well, I could get another big one before the fasting period begins.

“I want to get a fight before then and it could be on BBC. That audience would be huge for me and if I can capture that market on the BBC then I can become a crossover star.

“The next two fights are so important now; first on a huge show at Spurs where all the eyeballs will be on it and then straight into a BBC show.”
