DANNY GARCIA RETURNS VS. DANIEL GONZALEZ ON OCT. 18 IN BROOKLYN

Danny Garcia will return one last time to the venue where many of his most meaningful fights occurred.

Garcia announced Wednesday that he’ll battle Daniel Gonzalez in a 10-round junior middleweight match October 18 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Philadelphia’s Garcia, 37, is winding down a career in which he won world titles at junior welterweight and welterweight.

Garcia didn’t state that this will be the last fight of a pro career he launched in November 2007, but he doesn’t plan to fight much longer. Erislandy Lara stopped Garcia after the ninth round of Garcia’s most recent bout – a fight for Lara’s WBA middleweight title almost a year ago at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

His loss to Lara, who dropped Garcia in the 9th round and led by big margins on all three scorecards, marked the first time Garcia lost by knockout in 41 professional fights. Though 1-2 in his past three fights and largely inactive for the past five years, Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs) is considered a big favorite over Queens’ Gonzalez (22-4-1, 7 KOs).

“The fans have supported me the whole way, since I first fought here, and have made Brooklyn feel like my home outside of Philly,” Garcia said in a press release distributed Wednesday. “There’s nothing like a big fight night at Barclays Center. I had to do this show for the fans and show them how much I’ve appreciated them this entire time.

“The best way to say goodbye is by fighting here one last time and giving them a tremendous night of boxing full of rising young talent. It’s gonna be the DSG show in Brooklyn once again on October 18!”

Garcia is 7-2 at Barclays Center since he first fought at the home arena of the NBA’s Nets in October 2012. He knocked out Mexican legend Erik Morales in the fourth round of their rematch that night.

Garcia later beat former champions Zab Judah, Lamont Peterson, Paulie Malignaggi and Robert Guerrero at Barclays Center. Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter also defeated Garcia in welterweight title fights there.

Tickets to this card, promoted by Garcia’s company, go on sale Thursday at 11 a.m. ET and can be bought via ticketmaster.com.

Danny Garcia vs Daniel Gonzalez set for October 18 in Brooklyn

Danny Garcia’s retirement tour will include one final stop in Brooklyn.

The former unified junior welterweight and WBC welterweight champion will return to the Barclays Center for the tenth and final time on October 18 when he meets Queens based welterweight Daniel Gonzalez in a ten-round junior middleweight main event. The card will be promoted by Garcia’s Swift Promotions.

Garcia, 37-4 (21 KOs), of Philadelphia will be fighting for the first time since last September, when he was stopped in nine rounds. The 37-year-old Garcia last fought at Barclays in 2022, the fight previous to the Lara bout, when he won a majority decision over Jose Benavidez Jnr. Garcia figured in some of the biggest events at Barclays Center, which had once been the spiritual home base for Premier Boxing Champions, including back-to-back headlining fights at the venue against Erik Morales and Zab Judah, in 2012 and 2013, plus his 2017 welterweight unification fight against Keith Thurman.

“The fans have supported me the whole way since I first fought here and have made Brooklyn feel like my home outside of Philly,” said Garcia. “There’s nothing like a big fight night at Barclays Center. I had to do this show for the fans and show them how much I’ve appreciated them this entire time. The best way to say goodbye is by fighting here one last time and giving them a tremendous night of boxing full of rising young talent. It’s gonna be the DSG show in Brooklyn once again on October 18!”

Gonzalez, 22-4-1 (7 KOs), is coming off back to back victories last year, over Michael “Slick” Anderson and Keane McMahon. The 35-year-old Gonzalez has previously fought one former world champion, losing a competitive decision to Chris Algieri in 2019.

“I’m expecting Gonzalez to come with everything he’s got and prepared to give the fans a great fight,” said Garcia. “I know he’s gonna be motivated being a local guy fighting on a big stage, but I’m also super motivated to show out for these fans on October 18. This should be fireworks, but no matter what, I’m planning to have my hand raised.”

“I’ve been grinding in silence, locked in that gym and waiting on my shot,” said Gonzalez. “Now it’s here. I’m stepping into the ring with a future Hall of Famer in Danny Garcia at Barclays Center. I ain’t coming to just show up, I’m coming to shock the world and prove how great I am. Life’s about timing, and on October 18, it’s ‘Gallo’ time.”

Other fights scheduled for the card include an eight-round junior welterweight fight between Mathew “Lefty Gunz” Gonzalez, 15-1-1 (10 KOs), of Ridgewood, New York and Puerto Rico’s Wilfredo Flores, 12-5-1 (5 KOs), with heavyweight prospect Damian Knyba, 16-0 (10 KOs), and unbeaten middleweight Quincey Williams, 5-0 (5 KOs), also set for action.

Danny Garcia books 'Farewell to Brooklyn' bout for Oct. 18

Danny Garcia will return to the ring against Daniel Gonzalez on an Oct. 18 card at Barclays Center being called "Farewell to Brooklyn" as the former two-division champion begins winding down his career. The event will be promoted by Garcia's Swift Promotions.

Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs), 37, has been relatively inactive over the past half decade, with only four fights since 2020. He last fought in September 2024 in a loss to Erislandy Lara for the WBA middleweight championship. The Philadelphia fighter will face Gonzalez (22-4-1, 7 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight tilt and has suggested that his boxing career will soon come to an end. However, before he is done, he wants to make sure he returns to the venue he headlined in 2012 for Barclays' first boxing event.

"There's nothing like a big fight night at Barclays Center," said Garcia, who will compete for the 10th time at the venue. "I had to do this show for the fans and show them how much I've appreciated them this entire time. The best way to say goodbye is by fighting here one last time and giving them a tremendous night of boxing full of rising young talent. It's gonna be the DSG show in Brooklyn once again on October 18!"

Garcia is a former world champion at 140 and 147 pounds in a professional career that started in 2007. He will be a huge favorite against Gonzalez, who will come into the fight looking for his third consecutive win.

"I'm stepping into the ring with a future Hall of Famer in Danny Garcia at Barclays Center," Gonzalez said. "I ain't coming to just show up, I'm coming to shock the world and prove how great I am. Life's about timing, and on October 18, it's 'Gallo' time."

Garcia is 7-2 at Barclays Center with wins over former world champions Erik Morales, Lamont Peterson, Zab Judah and Paulie Malignaggi. His losses were against Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter.

Same.

I felt a bit bad for him when he did that speech about mental health after one of his recent fights.

I can't help but wonder what the point of this fight is. The only legit reason I can come up with is that he wants to go out with a win.

Garcia has had a good career but in his last bout looked like he had no business being in the ring with Lara. He should hang up the gloves and transition to a promoter full time, which, of course, is easy for me to say.

Look's like he wants a few more fights.

He probably have one final fight at Barclays, then have a final fight at Philly, where he officially retires.

call it a farewell tour.

He might want to appear at other arena's one final time too, who knows.

Yeah I believe his intention is to go out with a win, but the point of his comeback will ultimately be the same as all Boxing comebacks. For an upcoming young star to boost their career off of his fading one.

DANNY GARCIA CONTINUES TO LIVE THE DREAM WITH SWIFT PROMOTIONS

Danny Garcia has reached the pinnacle of boxing, having won world titles in two divisions.

Now, with the end of his career near, he’s shifted his focus to trying to develop stars of his own under his promotion. Garcia will put on his biggest card to date under the Swift Promotions banner on Oct. 18 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and he'll face Daniel Gonzalez in the main event on Millions.co.

“I always had a dream of being a world champion,” Garcia told The Ring. “I always had a dream of promoting other fighters, giving other fighters a platform, building other fighters up and making somebody else's dream come true. That's really what it is. Putting a smile on the fighter's face and trying my best to make a champion because I know how it feels. I know how it feels to be at the top. I know how it feels for somebody to help you like how Al Haymon helped me. I want to try to help somebody like that.”

“I can’t underestimate my opponent,” Garcia said. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime for him. I’ve got to go in there with the classy Danny Garcia mindset. Put that work in with the killer instinct [and] killer mindset. There's no reason why I shouldn't be motivated. This is my show, Swift Promotions, I'm the promoter, I'm the boss, I know what I'm getting myself into, and everything's just motivated me to be a king that day.”

Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs), a former two-division champion at junior welterweight and welterweight, began Swift Promotions in 2024 and has put on small shows in the build-up to Oct. 18. Among the fighters who are in his stable and will fight on the undercard is Quincey Williams (5-0, 5 KOs), who is a 2021 Pan American Games Champion, Cristian Cangelosi (11-0, 5 KOs) and Matthew Gonzalez (15-1-1, 10 KOs). Garcia also promotes 16-year-old David Garcia (4-0, 3 KOs) of Phoenix, Arizona.

The juggling act between fighter and promoter won’t be a problem for Garcia, as his full attention is on facing Gonzalez of Queens, New York.

“Right now, everything’s done,” Garcia said. “As a promoter, you’ve got to make sure the lights are up — I showed up to a fight and no lights were up in the arena. Everything is locked in. Everybody's getting matched up. Everything's already locked and loaded. All I have to do right now is just focus on being a fighter.”

The Oct. 18 card marks a significant milestone in more ways than one for Garcia. While it’s the most significant event he has promoted with Swift Promotions, it’ll also mark his last fight at the Barclays Center. Garcia is 7-2 with three knockouts in the arena, including victories over former champions Lamont Peterson, Paulie Malignaggi, Zab Judah and International Boxing Hall of Famer Erik Morales.

“It's definitely my home in boxing,” Garcia said. “It's something about the Barclays Center. I always say that's the best arena. [There’s] something special about that place. It was like love at first sight.”

ASHTON SYLVE VS. RICHARD COMMEY LANDS ON DANNY GARCIA-HEADLINED CARD OCT. 18

Ashton "H2O" Sylve can finally turn the page and continue his promising career following a devastating knockout loss against Lucas Bahdi in July last year.

Sylve (11-1, 9 KOs) is set to face former lightweight titleholder Richard Commey (31-5-1, 28 KOs) on Oct. 18, Swift Promotions announced. The matchup will provide chief support to Danny Garcia’s fight against Daniel Gonzalez at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Sylve, a 21-year-old prospect from Long Beach, California, has been stuck on the sidelines since a shocking sixth-round knockout loss to Bahdi in a fight he was comfortably controlling.

Sylve was supposed to return to the ring in April, but he pulled out of his scheduled main event on fight night due to illness. Complicating career matters even more was a nasty contractual dispute and split from Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions.

Now, Sylve can focus on the task at hand against the hard-hitting Commey, a 38-year-old from Accra, Ghana.

Commey is 2-3-1 in his last six fights, a difficult stretch that started with his second-round knockout loss to Teofimo Lopez in 2019. The defeat marked the end to Commey’s IBF lightweight title reign. Commey had won the vacant crown earlier that year by knocking out Isa Chaniev and successfully defended the belt, stopping Raymundo Beltran, before facing Lopez.

In recent years, Commey has lost to Vasiliy Lomachenko (UD12) and Jose Ramirez (KO11), fought Jose Pedraza to a split draw, knocked out Jackson Marinez (KO6) and in August defeated William Jackson (TKO2).

Danny Gonzalez: ‘Danny Garcia will be shellshocked by what I am today’

When Danny Gonzalez enters the ring on December 18 for his junior middleweight fight with Danny Garcia, it will be by far the biggest fight of his 13-year career. The 10-round bout is being hailed as Garcia’s farewell to the Barclays Center, a Brooklyn venue that has meant a great deal to what could be deemed a Hall of Fame career for the Philadelphia-based Garcia.

Still, Gonzalez, a seasoned veteran from the Woodhaven section of Queens, New York, says he won’t be overawed by the experience of stepping in the ring with the former two-division champion. That’s because Gonzalez has already spent about 30 rounds in the ring with Garcia, having been one of three sparring partners brought down to Philadelphia in 2018 to help Garcia prepare for his fight with Shawn Porter in that very building where he now gets his opportunity at a high-profile win.

Even then, when Gonzalez was little more than a local ticketseller in the New York City area, the fighter known as “El Gallo” knew this day would come.

“I always had a feeling that we might fight one day. And it's just crazy that it’s actually happening right now,” said Gonzalez, 22-4-1 (7 KOs).

“He’s saying it's his farewell to Brooklyn, it might be his last fight and stuff like that. I'm gonna make sure it's his last fight. So when I beat him, he's gonna retire, and that's the end of it for him. So the title works. But for me, it's my moment to really show that I'm at that high level, and that my stock is going to rise, beating a future Hall of Famer in Danny Garcia. He's done a lot, so beating him just raises my stock and opens up the world to who I am. It'll open up big opportunities and big fights for me.”

A win over Garcia, one of the most popular boxers of the previous decade, would go a long way toward Gonzalez’s long-standing battle for respect. The 35-year-old Gonzalez first picked up the sport at age 16, at his mother’s insistence, as a way to trim down his teenage frame from 250lbs. Within a few months, Gonzalez lost enough weight to compete in the 141lbs and 152lbs divisions of the Golden Gloves between 2009 and 2012, turning pro later in 2012 and starting his career at 14-0-1. There were setbacks along the way, like his 2017 stoppage loss to Danny O’Connor, or his competitive decision loss to former world titleholder Chris Algieri in 2019, or back-to-back decision losses to Petros Ananyan and Paulo Galdino.

There have also been highs, like a year ago in his previous fight, when he crossed the Hudson River to dominate Michael “Slick” Anderson over 10 rounds in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey.

Gonzalez says the up-and-down nature of his career has tested his willpower through the years, but he believes a victory over Garcia would justify the difficulties he has had to persevere.

“I might be a little older than most, but I'm fresh, and I'm just catching my prime right now. I feel the smartest, the strongest, and I just feel ready to shock these people thinking that I'm a club-level fighter,” said Gonzalez.

“What kept me going in this game, more than anything, is that I have a mission, and my mission is very simple: I want to prove to all the people that hard work pays off. If anyone knows me, they know I've been grinding for 20 years, and I've been putting in hard work, and it needs to pay off on a big stage like this. They need to see me as world champion, because it's like the definition that hard work pays off, and that if you bust your ass, you stay consistent, you work hard, good things happen.”

Moises Roman Jnr believes good things will pay off on October 18. Roman – Gonzalez’s trainer/manager, who first started training Gonzalez when he was a teenager – says it works to his fighter’s advantage that he’s being counted out as an opponent, giving Gonzalez the right motivation to prove a point.

“Garcia always says he was the underdog going into every fight and won, and never count out the underdog,” Roman said. “But guess what? Gallo is the underdog in this fight, and we will not be denied.

“Gallo has heart, grit, mental determination and, most importantly, he knows a win on October 18 will put him in position to hopefully challenge for a world title down the line.”

The conditions for an upset would seem to be there. Garcia, now 37, hasn’t fought since September 2024, when he was stopped in nine rounds against Erislandy Lara in a challenge for the WBA middleweight title. Prior to that, he had fought just once since 2021, when he won a majority decision over Jose Benavidez Jnr in 2022. Garcia has been far more active developing his Swift Promotions company in the past year than he has been in the ring.

Gonzalez doesn’t put too much stock into what happened in sparring all those years ago, saying that it’s a different game when you’re playing for keeps with no headgear and smaller gloves. What he does feel will make a difference is the hard work he has put into his career, and the lessons learned the hard way that have molded him into the fighter he is today.

“I don't know if he's on the come-down, but it looks like he's on the come-down,” said Gonzalez. “I'm ready for a prime Danny Garcia; I'm not thinking he's coming in light. I think he's coming in to try to prove something. I'm not stupid. He's trying to knock me the hell out, and I'm trying to do the exact same thing to him.

“What I do know is how much I grew and how much better I am. And I don't think he's ready for that, and I think he's going to be a little shellshocked of what type of fighter I am today compared to those sparring sessions eight years ago. I'm just better in every way, shape and form.”

Danny Garcia Eager To Look Good Against Gonzalez, Feels He Has Hall Of Fame Case

Retirement isn't an easy subject for Danny Garcia.

In fact, he buries his head in his hands whenever the topic comes up. But no matter how well he dodges punches inside the ring, he can't avoid the inevitable.

For most boxers, once they hang up their gloves, they’re often forgotten. But in the case of Garcia, he believes he’ll be remembered forever.

"I'm making it to the Hall of Fame," Garcia told The Ring. "I think I did more than enough. I was a unified champion at 140 and WBC champion at 147. I got some great wins under my belt, am a two-division champion. I definitely think I’m a Hall of Famer."

Garcia does have a number of notable wins, but isn't proud of his latest appearance. Known for his chin and durability, Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs) has rarely been wobbled during his career, let alone stopped. However, Erislandy Lara made him pay for his self-belief.

In an attempt to become a three-division champion, Garcia was dominated and ultimately suffered a ninth-round stoppage in September 2024 by the WBA middleweight champion.

Embarrassed by the outcome, the Philly native refused to end his career on a sour note. So, he'll officially continue on Oct. 18 in Brooklyn's Barclays Center against Daniel Gonzalez.

This will be Garcia’s 10th fight at the historic venue, where he’s gone 7-2. The 37-year-old has already said this is his last fight in Brooklyn, but as far as his career goes, that's a more open-ended question. The former two-division champ isn't concerned with whether or not he'll beat Gonzalez, but the manner he does is the main topic of conversation.

"I know I'm expected to win, but I have to look good doing it," Garcia continued. "I know I'll get it done."

Danny Garcia undercard to feature Nahir Albright vs. Richard Commey, Chris Colbert

Danny Garcia’s “Farewell To Brooklyn” main event against Daniel Gonzalez on October 18 now has its undercard locked in, Garcia’s Swift Promotions announced in a press release.

The co-feature will be a junior welterweight bout between contender Nahir Albright, 17-2 (7 KOs), and former IBF lightweight titleholder Richard Commey, 31-5-1 (28 KOs), in a 10-round bout. Albright gave Keyshawn Davis his most difficult fight to date, a majority decision loss later overturned to a no-decision thanks to Davis’ positive test for marijuana.

More recently, Albright beat Keyshawn’s brother Kelvin by majority decision, resulting in Keyshawn and third brother Keon infamously jumping Albright after the bout.

Commey has fought a number of renowned fighters including Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez, but is likely past his best at 38 years old. He was out of the ring for more than two years between a March 2023 loss to Jose Ramirez via 11th-round knockout and a second-round stoppage win this August against the 13-6-2 William Jackson.

The card – a pay-per-view streaming on MILLIONS.co — will also feature unbeaten heavyweight Damian Knyba, 16-0 (10 KOs), taking on Joey Dawejko, 28-13-4 (16 KOs), over eight rounds.

Brooklyn’s own Chris Colbert, 17-3 (6 KOs), will face Blas Ezequiel Caro, 12-8 (5 KOs), in an eight-rounder, and Gabriel Rosado, 27-17-1 (16 KOs), has an eight-round super middleweight bout against Vaughn Alexander, 19-16-2 (12 KOs).

“We’ve got big names in this sport taking on tough opponents and the future stars of boxing looking to make a name for themselves on the big stage,” Garcia said in the press release. “I’m gonna close the show in style, but you won’t want to miss anything leading up to the main event. It’s definitely gonna be fireworks in Brooklyn on October 18.”

Other bouts included on the undercard:

Dominique Crowder, 18-0 (11 KOs), vs. Fernando Diaz, 16-5-1 (6 KOs), 10 rounds, bantamweight
Mathew Gonzalez, 15-1-1 (10 KOs), vs. Wilfredo Flores, 12-5-1 (5 KOs), eight rounds, junior welterweight
Cristian Cangelosi, 11-0 (5 KOs), vs. Victoriano Antonio Santillan, 13-8-2 (8 KOs), eight rounds, junior middleweight
Keith Colon Rodriguez, 7-0 (7 KOs), vs. David Calabro, 5-0 (3 KOs), four rounds, featherweight
Reshat Mati, 15-0 (8 KOs), vs. Jose Angulo, 17-10 (10 KOs), eight rounds, junior middleweight
Quincey Williams, 5-0 (5 KOs), vs. Christopher Rodriguez, 13-1-1 (11 KOs), six rounds, welterweight
Jahanzeb Rizwan will make his pro debut vs. Daniel Weber, 0-3 (0 KOs), four rounds, junior middleweight

Prior to the pay-per-view card, these two bouts will stream for free:

Zahir Abdus Salaam will make his pro debut vs. Ronald Binyard, 0-0-1 (0 KOs), four rounds, junior middleweight
Elijah Gonzalez, 2-0 (2 KOs), vs. Jason Chavez, 0-1-1 (0 KOs), four rounds, junior welterweight

DANNY GARCIA'S BROOKLYN FAREWELL: NAHIR ALBRIGHT-RICHARD COMMEY IS NEW CO-MAIN

A new co-feature is now in place for Danny Garcia's final fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Nahir Albright will face former IBF lightweight champion Richard Commey in a 10-round junior welterweight bout in the chief support slot.

Garcia will face Daniel Gonzalez in a 10-round main event billed as the former two division world champion's "Farewell to Brooklyn" on MILLIONS.co. pay-per-view (6pm ET/3pm PT).

Commey, 38, was originally slated to face Ashton Sylve before landing on Albright as his next opponent. Commey (31-5-1, 28 KOs) of Accra, Ghana, ended a near two-and-a-half year layoff on August 31 with a second-round stoppage win over William Jackson in Detroit.

Four of Commey's five defeats have come against current or former world beltholders, including Ring junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez and recently-retired three-division king Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Philadelphia's Albright (17-2, 7 KOs) ended a 20-month layoff when beating Kelvin Davis via 10-round majority decision on June 7. The win was marred, however, by a post-fight attack on Albright from Kelvin's two younger brothers Keyshawn and Keon.

Albright, 29, has prior history with the Davis family, as he was on the wrong end of a majority decision in his previous appearance against WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn in October 2023. However, the bout was later changed to a no-contest after Keyshawn's positive marijuana test - a banned substance for boxers competing in Texas.

Albright has won 16 of his last 17 fights since a pro debut defeat in September 2016, with the lone blemish being a 10-round points loss by former title challenger Jamaine Ortiz (20-2-1, 10 KOs).

Elsewhere, the undercard will feature grizzled veteran Gabriel Rosado (27-17-1, 16 KOs) facing Vaughn Alexander (19-16-2, 12 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight bout.

Polish heavyweight Damian Knyba (16-0, 10 KOs) will face Philadelphia veteran Joey Daweljko over eight rounds, while former WBA interim junior lightweight champion Chris Colbert (17-3, 6 KOs) ends a year-long layoff against Argentina's Blas Ezequiel Caro in a eight-round bout at 135-pounds.

Danny Garcia ready to end his movie against Danny Gonzalez and prove he’s a Hall of Famer

Danny Garcia could close out his career on Saturday when he takes on Danny Gonzalez at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Garcia, 37, has fought just four times in the last five years, and he’s lost two of his last three, including an audacious attempt for the WBA middleweight title held by veteran Cuban Erislandy Lara in his last fight.

That would have made him a three-weight world champion

“One week out and I feel ready to go. It’s the real Danny versus the fake Danny. He’s Dookie Gonzalez,” said Garcia, who is 37-4 (21 KOs).

“This feels like the ending of my movie. We’ve got to end it with a win. I feel rejuvenated. This feels more like it’s my first fight than my last. I’m ready to go in there and do my thing.

“Gonzalez is hungry. He’s got everything to gain and I’ve got everything to lose. I have to train myself like I’m fighting for a world title. That’s how I always train. I’m sparring the young hungry lions who are trying to beat me up.”

Gonzalez is from Queens, New York. He’s 22-4-1 (7 KOs) and has won his last two, although at a much lower level.

Philadelphian Garcia has made the Barclays his home, boxing there nine times so far.

“I had to keep feeding my fans in Brooklyn. They made me who I am today, so it was a perfect place for this fight.

“I fought everybody. I never ducked anyone. I fought whoever they put in front of me and that’s why fans love me. I’m proud of everything I’ve been through inside and outside of the ring. And I’m still here.

“I’ve been doing my own shows in Philly and I wanted to keep making Swift Promotions bigger and this was the best way to do it.”

And while he has a clear attachment to Brooklyn, he doesn’t stray far from his roots.

“Being a part of Philly boxing legacy is incredible,” he said. “It’s legendary. It really shows that if you put in the hard work, you can really be somebody. To be mentioned with the other Philly boxing greats is a testimony to the hard work and everything we’ve been through.

“I don’t regret anything that’s happened in my career. The wins, the losses, it all made me Danny Garcia. So we’re gonna go out there on October 18 and show the world one last time that I belong in that Hall of Fame.”

Danny Garcia reflects on career ahead of Oct. 18 farewell fight, names his best win

Retirement is around the corner for Danny Garcia, but the former two-division champion returns October 18 in an event he’s promoting as a “Farewell to Brooklyn” against Daniel Gonzalez at New York's Barclays Center.

Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs) is expected to get past Gonzalez (22-4-1, 7 KOs) in the 10-round junior middleweight bout, even at 37 following a shoddy performance in September 2024 during a ninth-round stoppage loss against WBA middleweight titleholder Erislandy Lara.

“I made a lot of money, and I still got a lot of money. The reason why I'm doing this fight is I want to end my career with my hand raised in the air,” Garcia said during an AMA session on Reddit. “No other reason why I'm doing this fight. Strictly for the love of the sport. Not for the money, not for the fame. I'm doing it just to end the Danny Garcia chapter with my hand raised.

“I always wanted to be a three-division champion. I fell short in my last fight. But I did fight everybody, so I'm proud because I stepped into the ring with everybody they put me in front of, and I never backed down from a challenge. I feel like I accomplished a lot, and I'm proud of myself.”

Despite the defeat to Lara, Garcia believes his career credentials are enough to be enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame once he becomes eligible.

Garcia has wins against Erik Morales (twice), Amir Khan, Zab Judah, Lucas Matthysse, Lamont Peterson, Paul Malignaggi, Robert Guerrero and Brandon Rios. His losses have come against Errol Spence, Shawn Porter, Keith Thurman and Lara.

Garcia reflected on some of the highlights from the biggest fights of his 18-year career.

“I would probably say Matthysse [was my best performance in 2013] because of the hype,” said Garcia. “I was the underdog, but I was the champion. Everyone thought he was gonna knock me out, and I beat him. Because of that, it had a lot of meaning to it, but I feel like I have a lot of great wins in my career.

“The hardest punch I ever took was probably that right hand when Matthysse hit me in the 11th round, and the mouthpiece came out.

“And Amir Khan was so fast I thought the referee hit me … Skill-wise, I'll say Erik Morales in the first fight. He was a legend and I was the young guy. It was that one clip he made me miss and he was like mocking me. So I went to school that night with a legend. So I will say that Morales is probably the most skillful battle I've ever been in.”

Once Garcia officially hangs up the gloves, he plans to transition into being a promoter with Swift Promotions.

“I think my promotion will be the biggest, one of the biggest one day,” said Garcia. “See the way Oscar [De La Hoya] started [Golden Boy Promotions] is the way I started. Start with small shows, and now I'm doing my one big show that's gonna lead to bigger shows and signing bigger fighters ... It's always been a dream of mine to be more than just a boxer.”

NAHIR ALBRIGHT-RICHARD COMMEY CANCELED; WAS CO-FEATURE ON DANNY GARCIA UNDERCARD

Nahir Albright must wait to try to build on the momentum he established by beating Kelvin Davis four months ago.

Albright was scheduled to face former IBF lightweight champ Richard Commey on Saturday night in Brooklyn, but their 10-round junior welterweight fight was canceled Thursday. The Ring couldn’t confirm the reason their bout was scrapped on such short notice by the time this story was posted.

Albright (17-2, 7 KOs, 1 NC), of Sicklerville, New Jersey, and Ghana’s Commey (31-5-1, 28 KOs) were set to square off in the co-feature on the Danny Garcia-Daniel Gonzalez undercard at Barclays Center.

Albright defeated Davis (15-1, 8 KOs) by majority decision in their 10-rounder June 7 at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Albright told The Ring and other outlets that former WBO lightweight champ Keyshawn Davis, Kelvin’s older brother, head-butted him during an altercation in Albright’s locker room following his victory in Davis’ hometown.

The incident somewhat overshadowed Albright’s win. He didn’t pursue legal action against Keyshawn Davis, whom police escorted out of Scope Arena after he and Albright’s brother, Terrance Brown, yelled at each other in the hallway outside of Albright’s locker room.

Keyshawn Davis was stripped of his WBO belt the previous day because he came in 4.3 pounds overweight for a 135-pound title defense against Edwin De Los Santos. That main event was canceled when De Los Santos’ promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, wouldn’t allow him to fight the heavier Davis due to safety concerns.

Keyshawn Davis beat Albright by majority decision in October 2023 in Rosenberg, Texas. The outcome of their 10-round fight was changed to a no-contest because Davis tested positive for marijuana, a substance banned by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation.

Albright, 29, has fought only once in the two years since he faced Keyshawn Davis.

Commey, 38, is 2-3-1 in his past six fights. His three losses during that stretch came against Ring/WBO junior welterweight champ Teofimo Lopez, former unified lightweight champ Vasiliy Lomachenko and former WBC/WBO junior welterweight champ Jose Ramirez.

Press Release

Former two-division champion Danny “Swift” Garcia held a media workout at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, New York on Thursday ahead of his show this Saturday, October 18th at Barclays Center as he takes on Queen-native Danny “El Gallo” Gonzalez in the main event of Swift Promotions' big show. The media workout also featured a slew of undercard fighters including undefeated Polish heavyweight Damian Knyba, who takes on Joey Dawejko in an eight-round matchup, Brooklyn’s own Chris “Primetime” Colbert, who faces Blas Ezequiel Caro in an eight-round attraction, and Philly action fighter Gabriel Rosado, who takes on veteran Vaughn Alexander in a super middleweight bout. The workout also featured Brooklyn’s Cristian Cangelosi, who faces Victoriano Antonio Santillan. Tickets for the live event are available through Ticketmaster.com. The show will be available on a pay-per-view basis exclusively through Millions.co beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT with twelve scheduled attractions featured with purchase of the event. Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday from world famous Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn:

DANNY GARCIA

“Camp has been great. I feel ready. There were no shortcuts. I treated this like a world title fight. I’ve done everything right.

“I got here because of everything I went through as a kid. I came from nothing and that’s why I have the grit that I’ve shown in fight after fight.

“I just want to be remembered as someone who fought everyone and never backed down.

“Danny Gonzalez is someone who’s been under the radar and deserves a shot. Some guys never get the opportunity and I thought he earned it.

“It makes me really happy to give young guys opportunities like this. To a lot of guys fighting at Barclays Center is a dream come true. That means everything to me.”

DANNY GONZALEZ

“I’m just excited to go. I’m calm. On Saturday the talking is done. We’re going in there to hurt each other, and I’m gonna hurt him.

“I don’t think it matters what his mentality is. When he loses, he’s gonna realize it’s time to spend time with his family.

“This is everything. This proves that hard work and consistency pays off. I’ve been grinding for 20 years and now I’m here on the big stage.

“I’m in phenomenal shape for this. He’s gonna be shocked with what he’s in there with. Speed, strength, size, power, it’s gonna be everything.

“I know what I can do and I know that I can beat him.”

DAMIAN KNYBA

“I’m really excited to be fighting in front of the Polish fans at Barclays Center. There have been a lot of great heavyweights like Adam Kownacki who have fought there and I look forward to keeping that tradition going.

“I’m extremely motivated. I’ve fought in big arenas before, so this is nothing new to me. I’m coming in here mentally strong and ready to do what I have to do.

“I’m very motivated to show everyone that I’m the best. The Polish fans mean the world to me. I want to be at my best and make my country proud.”

CHRIS COLBERT

“I’m feeling great. I’m blessed to be here on the big stage again and on Saturday night I just have to do what I do best.

“I’m gonna go back down to super featherweight to get back to the top. I’m actually hungrier now than I was for my last few fights. Right now I’m starving. I have no choice but to go in there and wipe out the 130-pound division.

“I know there’s a lot more that I’m leaving on the table as far as my career, and I can’t leave it there.

“I just want to win. I’m not worried about making a statement.

GABRIEL ROSADO

“I feel good to be here in Brooklyn. This is actually my favorite city to fight in. The atmosphere is amazing and it’s close to Philly.

“We’re doing everything right, that’s why my energy is really good. We’ve had a great training camp in Puerto Rico. It was hot as hell and it was what we needed.

“The heart has to still be in it to fight. That’s one thing about me, I can always count on my heart and my will. Nobody is gonna take that away from me. There was actually a point in my career where I counted too much on my will and slacked on my fundamentals. It’s those little things that make a big difference.”

CRISTIAN CANGELOSI

“I’m looking to put on a good show for all my Italians here in Brooklyn. I’m feeling good and ready to deliver a knockout.

“I have a great team that’s really got me ready to go. We’ve had a great training camp with really strong sparring. I’m gonna be at my best on Saturday night.

“I want to be great and show that I’m a future world champion.”

DANNY GONZALEZ: DANNY GARCIA WILL BECOME MEME OF ‘CHERRY-PICKING GOES WRONG’

Danny Gonzalez recognizes his supposed role in Danny Garcia’s final fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday night.

The comparatively unknown Gonzalez is the guy Garcia chose to help make him look good in what could be the last appearance of a career in which the Philadelphia native won world titles in two weight classes. DraftKings lists Garcia as almost a 6-1 favorite over Gonzalez, who views their 10-round junior middleweight match as an opportunity to change his life.

“I think he’s overlooking me 110 percent,” Gonzalez told The Ring. “I think this is gonna be a meme, where cherry-picking goes wrong.”

Gonzalez (22-4-1, 7 KOs) mentioned “cherry-picking” because Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs) endured criticism early in his career for taking fights against overmatched opponents. One of those instances occurred at Barclays Center in August 2014, when Garcia dropped a huge underdog, Rod Salka, three times and knocked him out in the second round.

If that’s the type of fight Garcia anticipates Saturday night, Gonzalez assured that the former junior welterweight and welterweight champ is in for a rude awakening.

“He picked the wrong guy,” Gonzalez said. “I’m motivated. I put in the work. I don’t work [another job]. This is all I do. I’m obsessed.”

Gonzalez, 35, has won back-to-back bouts after suffering successive points defeats to Petros Ananyan and Paulo Galdino in competitive fights in October 2021 and May 2022, respectively. He’ll fight for the first time Saturday night since he easily out-pointed Michael Anderson last October 12 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

As confident as he is, Gonzalez realizes he has never beaten anyone as accomplished as Garcia.

“You beat Danny Garcia, you become a legend,” Gonzalez said. “He’s only been defeated by four world champions. Basically, the stock raises. I’ll be able to get a big fight, maybe a world title shot. I’ll become a major player in the game. A win over Danny Garcia, you know, the world knows who I am.”

Garcia, 37, will end an even longer layoff than Gonzalez in a pay-per-view main event that’ll be streamed by MILLIONS.co ($39.99; 6 p.m. ET; 3 p.m. PT).

He hasn’t fought since WBA middleweight champ Erislandy Lara became the first opponent to stop Garcia inside the distance in September 2024 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Garcia – who previously dropped decisions to former welterweight champs Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter and Errol Spence Jr. – declined to answer the bell for the 10th round of his 12-round, 160-pound title fight against Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs). Cuba’s Lara led by the same score, 88-82, on all three cards after knocking Garcia to the canvas in the ninth round on the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga undercard.

“You know how boxing is,” Gonzalez said. “You’re only as good as your last win, so they’re definitely gonna play more off of the Lara fight. I’m pretty sure he wants to leave with a win and he’s motivated, but I don’t think it’s about what he does and what’s going on with him. It’s more about me doing what I’ve gotta do. And as long as I do what I gotta do and don’t make mistakes, I’m gonna end up winning this fight.”

Garcia will fight for the 10th time at Barclays Center, where he lost close decisions to Thurman and Porter since the home arena of the NBA’s Nets opened 13 years ago. Gonzalez grew up in the Woodhaven section of nearby Queens, but he lives in Brooklyn, only approximately one mile from Barclays Center.

“I’m just a fat kid from Woodhaven, Queens, that just stayed working hard, consistent, and 20 years later I’m in a big fight,” Gonzalez said. “I’ve done a lot in the sport and I’ve still got a lot to do. I wanna show people that hard work pays off. … Get your money on FanDuel. I’m gonna shock the world.”

Some make weight.. some don’t

Garcia, 37-4 (21 KOs), came in at 153.6lbs on Friday, while Gonzalez, 22-4-1 (7 KOs), was 153.4lbs for his first official fight above welterweight. Garcia, the former two-division champion, has said this may be his final fight as he transitions into his post-fighting life as a promoter. The 37-year-old from North Philadelphia is promoting this card – his sixth ever – under his Swift Promotions banner. Gonzalez, a native of the Woodhaven section of Queens, hopes this fight will serve as a springboard to his first ever world title opportunity.

In the co-featured bout, Dominique “Dimes” Crowder weighed in at the 118lbs limit while Fernando Diaz was slightly lighter at 117.6lbs. Crowder, 18-0 (11 KOs), of Baltimore is fighting for the first time since last November after his fight in July on the Jesse Rodriguez vs. Phumelela Cafu 115lbs unification fight card was canceled.

Diaz, 16-5-1 (6 KOs), of Riverside, California is riding a three-fight winning streak.

In eight-round heavyweight action, Damian Knyba, 16-0 (10 KOs), a New Jersey-based fighter from Poland, weighed 259.8lbs, while his opponent, the Philadelphia-based Polish-American Joey Dawejko, 28-13-4 (16 KOs), weighed in at 259lbs.

There were no fights that fell out at the weigh-in, though a few contract weights had to be adjusted – with a few dollars changing hands – in order to reach new agreements. The most dramatic weight miss came from Jahanzeb Rizwan, who missed the 160lbs limit by nearly a full division for his pro debut, coming in at 167.4lbs. His opponent, Travon Millage, 0-1, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, originally weighed 159.6lbs but had to return to the scale to register an official weight of 161.4lbs. Rizwan, 21, of the Bronx, represented Pakistan at the 2024 Olympic world qualifiers.

Another notable miss was Jose Angulo, 17-10 (10 KOs), who came in at 157.2lbs, 3.2lbs over the 154lbs contract weight, for his eight-round fight with Staten Island’s Reshat Mati, 15-0 (8 KOs), who weighed 152.6lbs.
