Yoenli Hernandez Returns Vs. Carlos Mohamed Rodriguez On Oct. 12

Middleweight contender Yoenli Hernandez has a return date set for October 12 against Carlos Mohamed Rodriguez in a 10-round main event at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, it was announced Tuesday.

Hernandez (8-0, 7 KOs), aka “Yoyo El Diablo,” is The Ring’s No. 4 fighter at 160 pounds. He was recently in camp with Canelo Alvarez, helping the Mexican star with high-level sparring ahead of his eventual defeat to Terence Crawford on September 13.

Hernandez, a 28-year-old power puncher from Camaguey, Cuba, looked sensational in his most recent outing, a one-sided, 10-round unanimous decision against Kyrone Davis on May 31 in Las Vegas. The brutal beating featured Hernandez outlanding Davis 217-40.

Rodriguez (16-14-1, 7 KOs) ended a four-fight losing streak last time out in October 2024 by knocking out the previously unbeaten Mason Dickinson.

In the co-main event, Armando Martinez Rabi (16-0, 15 KOs) takes on Willmank Canonico Brito (13-8-2, 11 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight bout.

This seems like a step backwards for Hernandez after a strong UD over Kyrone Davis a few months earlier.

Yoenli Hernandez Scores First-Round Stoppage In Florida Stay-Busy Fight

Cuban middleweight contender Yoenli Hernandez scored an easy stoppage win, as expected, on Sunday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

Hernandez (9-0, 8 KOs), The Ring’s No. 4-ranked fighter at 160 pounds, needed one round to dismiss outmatched 39-year-old journeyman Ramon De La Cruz Sena (24-41-3, 14 KOs).

Hernandez dropped Sena to the body with 40 seconds to go in the opening round. Although Sena got up and survived to hear the bell to finish the round, their scheduled 10-round fight was waved off in the Argentine's corner right afterward.

The victory didn't do much for the three-year pro Hernandez, but at least it kept Camaguey's 28-year-old power puncher active.

“Yoyo El Diablo” Hernandez was coming off a spectacular performance in his most recent outing on May 31 when he brutally beat down Kyrone Davis in a dominant and one-sided unanimous decision win after promising to showcase a more entertaining Cuban style.

Hernandez also recently served as a sophisticated sparring partner for Canelo Alvarez ahead of the Mexican star's fight against Terence Crawford last month.

An even bigger step backwards than the original fight was going to be.

I like Hernandez, but I don't think he gains or learns anything from a mismatch like this. He doesn't even get quality rounds under the bright lights.
