Unless they act out of character it has the makings of a not so good contest
The styles are awkward and Thurman won't want to get hurt

Frank Martin-Rances Barthelemy tabbed for Fundora-Thurman undercard

A one-time title challenger will meet a former titlist at the crossroads.

Frank Martin will end the longest layoff of his eight-year career when he meets Rances Barthelemy in a junior welterweight contest on the undercard of the Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman pay-per-view event on October 25 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Martin himself confirmed both his placement on the show and Barthelemy as the opponent.

It will mark the first ring appearance for Martin, 18-1 (12 KOs) since his eighth-round knockout defeat to Gervonta “Tank” Davis last June 15, also at MGM Grand. Martin was competitive – until he wasn’t, as Davis delivered yet another highlight reel knockout victory to retain his WBA 135lbs title.

The feat marked Davis’ last win. He fought Lamont Roach Jnr to a draw on March 1 in Brooklyn, New York.

Martin, 30, will be 16 months inactive by the time he enters the ring in October. It will also mark his first fight since an amicable split with longtime trainer Derrick James. He is now working with Hall of Fame former two-division champion James “Buddy” McGirt.

Barthelemy, 30-3-1 (15 KOs), has endured an even longer period away from the ring. The 39-year-old Cuban, now based in Las Vegas, has not fought since an April 2024 decision defeat to former unified 140lbs titlist Jose Ramirez on the road in Fresno, California.

The setback saw Barthelemy suffer his second defeat in a span of three fights. He was stopped in the sixth round of a July 2022 clash with then-unbeaten Gary Antuanne Russell, now a WBA 140lbs titlist. He rebounded from the lone stoppage loss of his career with a ten-round, majority decision over Omar Juarez on a May 2023 Showtime card from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

At his peak, Barthelemy held the IBF lightweight title. He made one successful defense of the belt before he opted to move up to 140lbs in 2016. However, he has endured all four career blemishes in just nine fights during that nine-year span.

The fight's exact placement on the card was not yet confirmed as this goes to publication. However, it is believed that the bout will top a Prime Video preliminary undercard before the PPV portion goes live.

Stephen Fulton: Win Over O'Shaquie Foster Should Secure Hall Of Fame Place

Stephen Fulton is motivated to become a world champion in a third weight class October 25 in Las Vegas.

The WBC featherweight champion is also confident that knocking off O'Shaquie Foster will help him achieve his ultimate boxing goal.

"This fight will just put me in the Hall of Fame," Fulton said during a virtual press conference recently. "It’ll just stamp it. It’ll be like the icing on the cake for me, so that’s why it’s an important job, an important task for me."

Philadelphia’s Fulton, 31, was a unified champ in the junior featherweight division. He suffered his only loss to Japanese legend Naoya Inoue (31-0, 27 KOs), who dropped Fulton twice and stopped him in the eighth round of their title fight in July 2023 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo.

Fulton (23-1, 8 KOs) has since beaten Carlos Castro (30-3, 14 KOs) and Brandon Figueroa (26-2-1, 19 KOs) in featherweight fights. He took the WBC 126-pound championship from Figueroa, winning their 12-round rematch by unanimous decision February 1 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Fulton moved up from 126 pounds to 130 without defending the WBC featherweight title because he had so much difficulty making weight for the second Figueroa fight. Foster, The Ring’s No. 1-ranked junior lightweight, feels Fulton made a mistake by choosing to fight him rather than remaining where he was.

“He’s a fighter, so he believes in his skills,” Fulton said. “It’s the same as me. There’s nothing I can say bad about that, because I would say the same thing. I believe in my skills and my job is to show him that there is levels, experience matters. I’ve been in there with four different world champions, so it’s like my job is to show him that I’m experienced, show the experience and my talent as well. That’s just my job.”

In addition to his two points victories over Figueroa, Fulton is the only opponent to beat since-crowned IBF featherweight champ Angelo Leo (26-1, 12 KOs) and defeated former IBF/WBA 122-pound champ Daniel Roman (29-4-1, 10 KOs) in a title unification bout.

While Fulton fought unbeaten star Inoue as a defending unified 122-pound champ, Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) acknowledged facing Fulton on the Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman undercard is the most important fight of the Orange, Texas native’s 13-year pro career.

“I guess I’d say it’s the biggest moment of my career,” Foster said, “cuz this fight will take me where I wanna go in the sport of boxing.”

The Foster-Fulton fight will be the co-feature of a Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view show at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. DraftKings’ odds on Foster-Fulton are almost exactly even.

O’Shaquie Foster promises to dominate Stephen Fulton

After four nail-biters in a row, WBC junior lightweight champion O’Shaquie Foster is promising that he won't be cutting it close in his clash against Stephen Fulton on October 25 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“It’s gonna be domination. I’m gonna put on a show, and I’m gonna look good doing it,” Foster said during a recent press conference. “I’m coming to put on a dominant show. I know my opponent is gonna be ready, but we’re gonna be sending him back down – trust me.”

Foster is The Ring’s No. 1-rated fighter at 130 pounds, but his recent ride to the top of the division has been a rollercoaster.

Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) won the crown that he now carries in November by beating Robson Conceicao in a rematch by split decision. Conceicao controversially took the title away from Foster in July of last year by split decision, as well. Foster first became the WBC 130-pound champion in February of last year with yet another split decision win, that time against Abraham Nova.

The opportunity to become a world champion only became available after Foster authored a dramatic 12th-round knockout win against Eduardo Hernandez in the final seconds of their October 2023 matchup. Foster was winning the fight, according to most obsevers, but was down big on two of the three cards.

“I’m gonna show everyone who’s doubting me,” Foster said. “For me, this is the biggest moment of my career. It’s the first time on pay-per-view, and I’m against my most accomplished opponent."

Fulton (23-1, 8 KOs), a former unified champion at 122 pounds, is currently the WBC featherweight titleholder and is stepping up a weight class in an attempt to become a three-division champion. Fulton scored the 126-pound title he now owns by again beating Brandon Figueroa in a February rematch.

“All I have to do is go make a statement against him and put on a show,” Foster said. “Once I show everyone what I’m really about, there won’t be any questions about me.”

Foster vs. Fulton will co-headline a PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view card topped by the bout between Sebastian Fundora and Keith Thurman.

KEITH THURMAN BEFORE SEBASTIAN FUNDORA TITLE FIGHT: I'M BACK WHERE I BELONG

Keith Thurman has always talked the talk and walked the walk, but after fighting just twice in the last six years, the proclamations from “One Time” just don’t ring the same as they once used to.

At 36, Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs) is seeking an Indian summer when he takes on WBC junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) on October 25 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas to headline a PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view card.

"This is what the sport is all about. You put Thurman’s name next to anybody and I guarantee you it’s gonna be a fight you won’t wanna miss," Thurman said in a recent press conference.

"I’m about to conquer Mount Everest himself. They call him The Towering Inferno, but I’ve been in the fire. This is what I live for right here. This is the top of the sport."

"Once I get the WBC title, people won’t have a reason to say 'no' to a Keith Thurman fight. I’ve been waiting through the setbacks. With the truly great champions, you can’t stop them from becoming champion once again."

After beating Robert Guerrero, Luis Collazo, Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia in a 24-month stretch from 2015-17 to become a unified welterweight champion along the way, Thurman was hit with a rash of injuries and inactivity, fighting just four times since then.

His only loss against Manny Pacquiao was July 2019, sandwiched between decision victories against Josesito Lopez and Mario Barrios. Thurman made his 154-pound debut in March with a third-round stoppage of Brock Jarvis in his native Australia.

Fundora however, is a different kind of beast. Thurman knows it.

"This is gonna be an action-packed fight," he said. "This is a beautiful opportunity to step up. You have to see it to believe it, and I truly believe it’s gonna be timber on October 25.

"Everything that’s happened in the past is water under the bridge. All you can do today is put your best foot forward. I’ve been through so much throughout my career. But here I am, right here right now, back where I belong.

"I guess you can call me the OG, or whatever you want. But I’m here today because of the love I have in my heart for boxing. I love making people love boxing. That’s what it’s all about. That’s what big fights are all about."

Keith Thurman Doesn’t Think ‘Freak Of Nature’ Fundora Is Better Than This Tall Amateur Nemesis

Sebastian Fundora will be the tallest opponent Keith Thurman has fought as an amateur or pro.

Thurman doesn’t consider Fundora the best tall southpaw he has agreed to face, though. That distinction belongs to Demetrius Andrade, who Thurman fought four times in the amateurs.

Andrade stands 6-foot-1, five inches shorter than Fundora. From a skills standpoint, Thurman thinks Andrade is better.

Andrade, a former junior middleweight and middleweight champ from Providence, Rhode Island, beat Thurman in their last three amateur matches. Thurman’s final loss to Andrade was for a spot on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, forcing him to make his pro debut earlier than he had hoped.

“He was a very talented individual, 'Boo Boo' Andrade," Thurman told The Ring. “With my resume and my background, I see Fundora is an obstacle. He’s a freak of nature. But is he an Olympic talent like Demetrius Andrade? I would say not. And that gives me, Keith 'One Time' Thurman, who’s been in there with some of the best fighters in the world since he was a teenager to a pro, [confidence]. Right now I’m the little engine that could. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I'm a keep moving forward and step into that fire and try and come out unblemished.”

The 5-8 Thurman must deal with an approximate 10-inch height disadvantage against Fundora when they square off October 25 for the WBC super welterweight title. At 36, the former WBA/WBC welterweight champ from Clearwater, Florida, is also nine years older than Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs).

“A 6-foot-6 southpaw, one of the longest jabs in the sport of boxing right now,” Thurman said. “He’s the tallest champion in all [17] divisions. The Southern Baptist in me just can’t stop thinking about David versus Goliath. They’re putting me in with a giant. And I don’t know why, I can’t stop believing. I believe in myself.”

Thurman’s confidence notwithstanding, DraftKings installed Fundora as a 4-1 favorite to win their Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view main event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Apart from one light heavyweight fight early on, the disciplined Fundora has competed at or near 154 pounds throughout his nine-year career. The Coachella, California, native is 3-0 since Brian Mendoza knocked him out in the seventh round of their April 2023 bout in Carson, California.

Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs, 1 NC) boxed at the 154-pound limit only once, in his last fight. He stopped Australian Brock Jarvis (23-2, 21 KOs) in the third round March 12 in Sydney, Australia, but Fundora is a much more formidable opponent.

Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman: Elijah Garcia Returns, Joins Oct. 25 Undercard

Elijah Garcia will take on Abraham Gabriel Buonarrigo on October 25 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, as part of the Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman undercard.

Garcia (17-1, 13 KOs) revealed the development on his verified Instagram page, taking place on the non pay-per-view portion of PBC's latest card.

Garcia, a 22-year-old middleweight contender from Arizona, was building a promising career as an unbeaten prospect and knocked out Armando Resendiz in September 2023.

That eighth-round stoppage win over Resendiz continues to age well, as the Mexican has since moved up in weight and stunned former IBF titleholder Caleb Plant in May to win the WBA interim super middleweight title. Garcia's own championship aspirations meanwhile, have been derailed during his subsequent two bouts.

After his first loss in June 2024 by split decision against Kyrone Davis, Garcia returned in March and scored a split decision against Terrell Gausha.

Garcia was dropped in the first round and despite Gausha outlanding him 189-154 during their 10-round fight, the southpaw was awarded a highly debatable decision.

Buonarrigo (14-5, 11 KOs), a 30-year-old from Argentina, gets the assignment to gauge Garcia’s ceiling further. He has scored back-to-back third-round stoppage wins against unheralded opposition after his December 2023 fourth-round TKO loss to Kevin Lele Sadjo.

Frank Martin-Rances Barthemely, full undercard revealed for Fundora-Thurman

The supporting cast has been confirmed for the freeview portion of the Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman card.

As previously reported by Boxing Scene, Frank Martin and Rances Barthelemy are confirmed to headline the preliminary undercard from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their scheduled 10-round junior welterweight clash will top a three-fight PBC on Prime Video stream preceding the already announced four-fight October 25 Pay-Per-View portion event.

Martin, 18-1 (12 KOs) returns to the ring for the first time since he suffered the lone defeat of his career. An 8th-round knockout to WBA lightweight titlist Gervonta "Tank" Davis last June 15 also took place at this venue.

The fight marked his last at lightweight as well as with longtime head trainer Derrick James. Martin will now campaign at 140 as he prepares under the guidance of Hall of Fame former two-division champ James "Buddy" McGirt.

“I’m excited to be back after people tried to bash me for taking one loss,” said Martin. “I took it as a lesson learned and I’m back mentally and physically at the top of my game. Rances is gonna have to deal with everything I went through, and he’s gonna feel it on every punch. I’m back and I’m pissed off and dangerous.”

Naturally, Barthelemy has a different perspective on their bout.

However, an uphill battle awaits the 39-year-old Las Vegas-based Cuban, who has not fought since an April 2024 defeat to former unified 140lbs titlist Jose Carlos Ramirez. Still, Barthelemy - a former lightweight titlist - enters the matchup brimming with confidence.

“October 25 is the night I remind everyone who Rances Barthelemy is,” said Barthelemy. “Frank Martin is a talented fighter, but I’ve been in deep waters before, and experience counts when the lights are brightest. I’m coming with new hunger, sharper focus, and the fire of a man chasing one more world title run. Fans tuning in are going to see me determined to leave everything in the ring. I’m not here to survive, I’m here to dominate and make sure my name is back on everyone’s radar.”

Martin-Barthelemy is joined by a pair of unbeaten prospects featured in separate crossroads bouts.

Locally-based 19-year-old southpaw Kaipo Gallegos, 10-0-1 (8 KOs) will take on Colombia's Nike Theran, 20-1 (14 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round lightweight contest.

Opening the three-fight telecast, the Dominican Republic's Luis Nuñez, 21-0 (14 KOs) meets Argentina's Hector Sosa in a junior lightweight bout also scheduled for ten rounds.

Fundora on whether Thurman is his toughest opponent yet
“I don’t think so but he’s a big name, a very, very big name. So we have to give the flowers to him because he’s definitely a great fighter.

“We had some hard competition coming up. I don’t want to mention no names but there was a couple fights that was very tough fights.”

On not getting a Xander Zayas fight
“I wasn’t at the table…Look, we fought Booker who was the #4 or #5 for the WBO and that was supposed to be the defense for the WBO because no one was mandatory at the time. But as soon as that fight happened they mandated that Zayas fight, so it’s like I thought we just defended this title for them.

“So they had their own plans, I guess that was their plan from the beginning, too. I remember after beating Tszyu the first time they wanted us to fight Crawford two months later, and our nose was still swollen — no care for the fighters. They have their own ideas or whatever, the WBO, it is what it is.”

On whether he’s looking to go undisputed at 154
“Right now, with having a taste of that (experience with the WBO) it kind of takes that idea away. I will fight all these guys but when it comes to those titles I’m just fighting with the WBC. I’m done with that.”

On whether he has considered moving up to 160
“We have all these great names at ‘54. Who do you have at 160, really? I mean, you have a couple of guys but I think 154 is very packed right now.”

SEBASTIAN FUNDORA'S TITLE DEFENSE VS. KEITH THURMAN POSTPONED

Sebastian Fundora's proposed WBC world junior middleweight title defence against Keith Thurman has today been postponed, sources tell The Ring.

The pair were to headline a PBC show on October 25 at Las Vegas' MGM Grand, now it is understood their clash and the WBC junior lightweight title fight between O'Shaquie Foster and featherweight beltholder Stephen Fulton, will be rescheduled at a later date.

Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) has sustained a hand injury, meaning he'll have to settle for two fights this year and sit out the remainder after stoppage victories over Chordale Booker and Tim Tszyu three months apart.

As for Thurman (36-1, 23 KOs), this news couldn't have come at a worse time. Already 36 and himself having had to withdraw from a proposed Tszyu bout last March, the former unified welterweight champion now must regroup and reset after training hard for this date.

It's also the second time Foster-Fulton has been postponed, after originally being slated to feature on the Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach undercard in August.

Couldn't they just upgrade Foster vs Fulton to the main event, and get Thurman a stay busy opponent to save the card?

FUNDORA-THURMAN EXPECTED TO RESURFACE ON MANNY PACQUIAO UNDERCARD IN JANUARY

Sebastian Fundora’s WBC junior middleweight title defense vs. Keith Thurman is expected to land on Manny Pacquiao’s undercard in late January, sources told The Ring.

The second bout of Pacquiao’s comeback is set for Jan. 24 in Las Vegas, the Hall of Fame boxer announced last week, though sources said the fight could shift to Jan. 31.

Pacquiao was held to a draw in July when he challenged WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios. Rolly Romero is considered the front-runner for Pacquiao’s January assignment.

Fundora and Thurman were to headline their own PBC on Prime Video PPV on Oct. 25 in Las Vegas before Fundora's hand injury during training camp, postponing their fight.

Fundora’s injury, sources said, occurred when he landed a punch that connected with his sparring partner’s elbow on Wednesday. Fundora received good news when discovering his hand isn’t fractured, but he can’t spar for three weeks because of a contusion, sources said, as the hand is inflamed and swollen.

Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) is rated No. 2 at 154 pounds by The Ring. “The Towering Inferno” is coming off a seventh-round TKO victory over Tim Tszyu in their July rematch.

Fundora scored a split decision over Tszyu last year to win the title in an upset. The 27-year-old has dizzying height for a 154-pounder at 6-foot-5½.

Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs) moved up to junior middleweight in March with a third-round KO victory over Brock Jarvis in Australia. The fight was Thurman’s first in more than three years and was meant to set up a title clash with Tszyu later this year in Australia.

Thurman enjoyed a lengthy title run at 147 pounds and his lone professional defeat came against Pacquiao in 2019.

Fundora vs Thurman now expected on January Pacquiao undercard

Sebastian Fundora and Keith Thurman have a new working date for their postponed title fight.

Sebastian Fundora was recently injured in training and saw his October 25 fight with Keith Thurman postponed, but a new working date is already in place, and it won’t be a pay-per-view main event with that new date.

Mike Coppinger has reported that Fundora vs Thurman will be part of a Manny Pacquiao undercard in late January. Pacquiao has said he will fight on January 24 in Las Vegas, though that date could be pushed back a week, according to Coppinger.

Many expect Pacquiao to face WBA welterweight titleholder Rolly Romero, though nothing has been officially set just yet.

Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KO) will be defending his WBC super welterweight title against Thurman (31-1, 23 KO), who moved up to the 154 lb division this past March after not fighting since 2022, his only two fights in the 2020s.

This could also mean that the fight between O’Shaquie Foster and Stephen Fulton, for Foster’s WBC super featherweight title, could land on that card as well. In all fairness, this would make for an uncommonly strong PBC pay-per-view, so for fight fans, the postponement might actually work out for the best.

Thurman didn't need the postponement, but it does make the Pacquiao card more interesting to have this bout added to it, so it'll be alright.

Sebastian Fundora and Keith Thurman are targeting early 2026 to reschedule their WBC super-welterweight title fight, @MikeCoppinger has revealed on Inside The Ring.

Thurman was originally set to challenge for Fundora’s title in October, prior to Fundora suffering a hand injury.
