Miguel Berchelt vs. Edixon Perez - October 11, 2025

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Miguel Berchelt-Edixon Perez set for October 11 in Reynosa, Mexico

Miguel Berchelt is set to resume his career.

The former WBC 130lbs titlist will seek his fourth consecutive win at lightweight, in what will mark his first – and likely his only – fight of 2025. Berchelt will next face Venzuela’s Edixon Perez in a scheduled ten round contest atop an October 11 TV Azteca card from Reynosa, Mexico.

The event was confirmed during the WBC’s weekly Martes de Café meeting in Mexico City, where Berchelt and promoter Fernando Beltran (Zanfer Boxing) were on hand.

“It’s a pleasure for me to be here. I am very happy to come to Reynosa, Tamaulipas,” stated Beltran. “It supports sports and supports youth.”

Beltran, 41-3 (36 KOs) has lodged three straight victories, all in Mexico. However, he has not fought since a ten-round, unanimous decision over Mauro Alex Hasan Perouene last November 30 in his Merida hometown.

The current run follows back-to-back knockout defeats, which threw his career in a tailspin.

Berchelt’s lengthy WBC 130lbs title stay came to a crashing halt when he landed on the very long end of the 2021 Knockout of the Year at the hands of countryman Oscar Valdez. Their February 2021 battle saw Valdez ice Berchelt with a single left hook late in the tenth round.

The moment ended Berchelt’s reign which dated back to a January 2017 stoppage victory over countryman Francisco Vargas. Six successful defenses followed before he was blasted out by Valdez. More than a year later, Berchelt was stopped after six rounds by Jeremia Nakathila in a March 2022 clash that seemed to signal the end.

More than three years later, the 33-year-old Berchelt proudly soldiers on.

Perez, 30-13-1 (24 KOs) will seek his first win in Mexico after four failed attempts.

The well-traveled 33-year-old from Ciudad Bolivar has not enjoyed much success on the road, with just three wins away from Venezuela. He enters this contest having won just three of his last nine bouts.

While the matchup itself is merely a confidence preserver for Berchelt, the event as a while expects to be a big hit in the border town.

“Hosting boxing events in specific cities has been a great satisfaction,” said WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman. “In Reynosa, there is support and an understanding of how important boxing is. There is a strong interest in taking this beyond just a single fight.”

MIGUEL BERCHELT RETURNS TO ACTION TONIGHT AFTER YEAR-LONG HIATUS

Former WBC junior lightweight titlist Miguel Berchelt will snap a near year long hiatus when he takes on experienced journeyman Edixon Perez on Saturday in Reynosa, Mexico.

The 33-year-old is happy and motivated to be back in action.

"I don't know very much about Edixon Perez, but I am ready to be spectacular as always on my return to the ring," Berchelt (41-3, 36 KOs) told The Ring through an interpreter. "I want to do a great show for the people of Reynosa."

Berchelt could have returned earlier but didn't feel it was the right time and waited until the Perez (30-13-1, 24 KOs) opportunity came his way.

"I had some offers before, but I am at a point in my career that I want to pick my fights and this one motivated me above all other things," he said.

"I feel that I can fight against the best lightweights, but I need to have the right offer to do that kind of fight."

Berchelt lost his WBC 130-pound title to Oscar Valdez (KO 10) in February 2021.

That prompted a move up to lightweight where he was upset by Jeremia Nakathila (RTD 6) 13 months later. He has since returned with three wins.

Despite those defeats, he maintains that enjoys boxing and still has a few chapters to write before he hangs up his gloves.

"At the moment, I am only concentrating on my next fight," he said. "I am happy to fight, and I still feel the love of the fans.

"Hopefully after this fight it doesn't take so long to fight again."

Berchelt's long-time confidant Mario Abraham believes there are still challenges out there for his fighter but won't throw him to the wolves.

"I think Miguel has had a long and successful career with 36 knockouts in 44 fights, 8 world championship fights with seven wins," said Abraham. "His last and next fight is in Mexico, and he is happy doing his fights.

"We have had offers to fight in America and other countries, but we decided together the offers were not enough to take that kind of risk."

I believe Berchelt won this corner retirement.

4th or 5th round I think.

Thanks for the update. I really enjoy Berchelt bouts. Maybe he’ll surprise at 135 but I don’t think his style will age well

MIGUEL BERCHELT EARNS STOPPAGE WIN IN MEXICO, EYES BIGGER FIGHTS AT 135

Miguel Berchelt continues building momentum to land more meaningful matchups in 2026.

The former long-reigning WBC junior lightweight titleholder scored a stoppage win against Edixon Perez on Saturday at the Gimnasio UAT in Reynosa, Mexico.

Berchelt (42-3, 37 KOs) delivered a beating on Perez (30-14, 24 KOs) through seven rounds and the fight was stopped before round eight of their junior welterweight contest, scheduled for 10, could begin.

The win marks four straight for the 33-year-old from Merida, Yucatán, Mexico, and his first since November 2024 where he outpointed Argentina's Mauro Alex Hasan Perouene over 10 rounds.

"El Alacran" Berchelt suffered back-to-back defeats in 2021 and 2022, one by a vicious 10th-round knockout against Oscar Valdez and the other during a one-sided stoppage after six completed rounds with Jeremia Nakathila 13 months later.

Berchelt first won a 130-pound crown in 2017, beating Francisco Vargas via 11th-round knockout and defended the title six times before losing to Valdez in devastating fashion.

"Hopefully after this fight it doesn't take so long to fight again," Berchelt told The Ring before Saturday night's win. "I feel that I can fight against the best lightweights, but need to have the right offer to do that."
