Reports: DAZN lost $877 million in 2024

According to SportsBusiness.com, DAZN suffered an operating loss of $877.5 million in 2024, an "improvement" over 2023, when the streaming service's reported loss total was $1.37 billion. InsiderSport.com added that DAZN's funding comes from investor Leonard Blavatnik’s Access Industries as well as a $1 billion investment from "SURJ, a sports investment company owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund." The Public Investment Fund is controlled by boxing's most powerful figure, Turki Alalshikh. On the positive side for DAZN, revenue grew from $2.86 billion in 2023 to $3.19 billion in 2024. The company said this growth was driven by the addition of new sporting events.

"Boxing's most powerful figure"
yeah and one slip up with his boss and he's broke and possibly in jail.
Re: DAZN lost $877 million in 2024
Ultimately Boxing is just going to have to make a deal with some other thriving streaming service to stay afloat as a sport that people watch I'm afraid. DAZN was an idea, but I don't think it's a sustainable one. DAZN may legitimately be more profitable as a YouTube channel with highlights than they are as a Paid subscription service, but that wouldn't be nearly enough to do what they do.
Boxing is still trying to find it's place in a World where Cable TV is a dwindling outlet, but it always sticks around in some form or another.
Honestly a great deal of the content that is on DAZN wouldn't have made it onto Television back in the day, and with good cause.

So they need to keep revenue at that level and reduce costs by 25% to start making profit…surprised revenue is that high…Thats a lot of subscribers (assume they haven’t got much revenue outside of subscribers..I expect they share quite a bit of output but not sure there lots of revenue from that as most will be retained by them unless there’s countries there not available??)
Re: DAZN lost $877 million in 2024
Sportswashing doesn't need to make money. The Saudis will be happy to keep pouring money into it for propaganda value.

"DAZN lost $877 million in 2024"..........Game changed
Re: DAZN lost $877 million in 2024
Reduce the absurd fight purses, then they would stay afloat
Re: DAZN lost $877 million in 2024
Your right, purses need to be adjusted to where the ticket sales can cover them. Anything else, like advertising, can cover costs.
The Saudi money, while it has made fights, has also artificially inflated boxers and promotors expectations.
Especially in the heavyweight division.
Boxing needs a dose of reality based adjustment.

He is still beholden to the notoriously fickle royal family.
It's not an elected position he holds.
If you read that article, it says there have already been tensions regarding his behaviors and outbursts at official gatherings.

How much longer can this happen
Re: DAZN lost $877 million in 2024
They cannot remain on the present business model .
And with Turkiaka sheikh rumours in buying Manchester United that will cool
His interest in boxing

Make Hay while the sun shines i say , If they are stupid enough to throw the dollars in the air , I'd say to any boxer who can , Grab it .
Re: DAZN lost $877 million in 2024
The problem isn't going to be for the boxers it's going to be for the Boxing fan. Having to have 3 or 4 streaming services to catch all the fights.
I'll probably just do as I do now. Have the one that provides Boxing most consistently and YouTube highlights for the rest.
I don't think you ever wanna make Boxing fans have to work too hard to see the sport though because I'm about as dedicated a Boxing fan as you'll find and when the TV model switched to streaming I just didn't watch any Live Boxing for about 8 years. Or at least very, very little compared to before when I'd never miss a big fight.

It’s not uncommon for tech/media businesses to lose these sums of money whilst they developed a stranglehold in markets.
It may well even be part of a sustainable plan if the investors have deep pockets.
Facebook/Amazon/Uber/Deliveroo made losses for years ….

It’s a bit different when the company is a universal household name, re-investing its huge profits to expand further across the world. Not so much when it’s a barely recognised niche streaming service.Frostieballs wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025, 09:05 It’s not uncommon for tech/media businesses to lose these sums of money whilst they developed a stranglehold in markets.

The only way DAZN can make money is drive down wage bill and put subscriptions up, I doubt they can grow the subscriber base much more now

None of those companies had huge profits to reinvest for a good few years and started out as unheard of brands.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025, 14:16It’s a bit different when the company is a universal household name, re-investing its huge profits to expand further across the world. Is DAZN niche? Is there a sports fan (the target market) that hasn’t heard of them? Also think they are bigger in much larger territories.
I’m not saying they are going to succeed. I have no idea what their business model is or how deep their pockets are.
All I’m saying is the that fact that they are losing a bundle of cash isn’t necessarily an indicator that they are failing.

Yes, loads. Most people I tell which channel the boxing is on haven't got a clue what it is.Frostieballs wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025, 02:55None of those companies had huge profits to reinvest for a good few years and started out as unheard of brands.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025, 14:16It’s a bit different when the company is a universal household name, re-investing its huge profits to expand further across the world. Re: DAZN lost $877 million in 2024
Most casual fans don’t even know fights are happening now. Much as I don’t particularly like Sky either, you can’t argue against their ability to heavily and promote across all their different channels, and there’s hardly a pub in the land which doesn’t have Sky Sports News rolling. My casual fan mates would often ask for my thoughts on an upcoming fight on Sky, whereas now they have no clue a fight is on. DAZN’s exposure with the general public is incredibly limited.
