After losing to Hatton, Tszyu was flirting with an idea of a ring comeback for almost a year. He kept stating, that if he'll make his comeback, it will only be at welterweight.
As we know, Kostya stayed retired. But let's say, he decides to take the rest of 2005 off to leak wounds after losing to Hatton. Then, he moves up officially in early 2006 and receives good rankings for his previous services.
Carlos Baldomir just became a Lineal & WBC titlist after upsetting Judah and was in huge demand. Off top of my head, he was linked to fights against Hatton, Collazo and Margarito.
"Main Events", who promoted Gatti, were the first who were able to secure Baldomir. And they lost.
Let's say, Tszyu's representatives from "Millennium Boxing" would've been first to throw some money at Baldo and entice him to Australia for a big money fight against supposedly faded fighter.
Do you see Tszyu pulling it off in mid-2006?
Carlos Baldomir vs Kostya Tszyu (2006)
Re: Carlos Baldomir vs Kostya Tszyu (2006)
Baldo UD for me. He had a strong chin (unlike Judah) and was on a roll and Tszyu was on the way down by then. I think Carlos outworks him

Tszyu by knockout at any point in their careers

I'd have to favor Kostya. Baldomir is tough, and would be applying steady pressure, but I think he's ultimately too slow and methodical to be able to break down Tszyu. He'd win some rounds for sure being the bigger man, and applying pressure, but Tszyu's skills are so far ahead of Baldomir's I can't see him losing this one.
