Also on the bill Jimmy Sains is now the English Middleweight Champion & moves his record up to 11(10)-0.

He reminds me of a young Jason Statham. Or maybe the person Jason Statham thinks he was. Thought he was. Thunk he was.

Anyway, the top end of the World Middleweight division is terrible. Some talented fighters but they rarely fight and, when they do, it's not against each other. On the domestic scene we have Eubank sucking up the oxygen and Denzel seems to be off the radar.

What's Shakiel Thompson like? I'm sure at least one of you Northern lot know him personally.

Sains old amateur rival Steve Clarke is now 7(1)-0 and Emmanuel Buttigieg racked up his tenth win tonight, with 3 KOs.

It's about time the 160 division had a resurgence. I was spoilt in my youth with Minter winning the title, then the Hagler years, then Benn, Watson, Eubank & Graham. There's been plenty of good fighters in the 21st Century but since the Canelo GGG fighters it's been a bit crap.

Oh I almost forgot, Felix Cash was going to be the saviour

Any good prospects you've got your eye on, either in the British Isles (Aaron McKenna anyone?) or worldwide?

I don't know Thompson personally but have seen a lot of him and he spars a few lads I know. He's a very good domestic fighter. It would be a good fight.

On the global side, one to keep an eye on is Weljon Mindoro, 25 years old from the Philippines. He's 16-0-1 with 16 KOs, and his split draw was with Takeshi Inoue in May 2023 at SWW. His last five fights have been at MW or higher.

There's also Derek Pomerleau, 25 from Canada. A southpaw who's 14-0-0 with 11 KOs, he's in the semifinals of the WBC Grand Prix tournament this weekend, where he'll take on Carlos Sinisterra, 13-1-0 with 10 KOs. This should be a good fight.

Eric Priest, 26 from the US. He's 16-0-0 with 8 KOs and has wins over experienced fighters Luis Arias, Tyler Howard, Jose Sanchez Charles, and Paul Mendez.

Frank "The Tank" Hogan, 25 from the US. A southpaw, he is 20-0-0 with 17 KOs and has been working over largely experienced fighters on the east coast. He's scheduled to fight a similar type boxer (Antonio Todd) in November.

I remember when Julio Cesar Gonzalez won the Light Heavy belt & I think he was the heaviest Mexican Champion at that time. RIP Champ, by the way. I've driven on that road he died on & it is as scary as fornicate.
