SOURCES: FLOYD MAYWEATHER-MANNY PACQUIAO REMATCH BEING EXPLORED BY NETFLIX

A Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao rematch - more than 10 years after the first meeting - is being explored to take place next year in another Netflix boxing event, sources tell The Ring.

When they fought in 2015, Mayweather outpointed Pacquiao in a fight five-plus years in the making. The event shattered revenue records, generating 4.6 million PPV buys, the most all time, along with a record gate of $72.2 million in Las Vegas. Overall, the event approached $600 million in revenue.

Now that Pacquiao has returned to boxing - and looked good in a draw with Mario Barrios in a July welterweight title fight - there’s renewed interest in the Filipino fighting Mayweather.

Pacquiao, 46, did enough to earn the nod, in the eyes of many, over Barrios. The former eight-division champion announced earlier this month that he would return in late January in Las Vegas.

It’s unclear at this time when Mayweather-Pacquiao would take place if finalized, and if Pacquiao would still fight in a different bout at the start of the year.

Mayweather, 48, hasn’t boxed since 2017 when he ran his record to 50-0 with a 10th-round TKO victory over UFC star Conor McGregor.

However, Mayweather has remained around boxing with a slew of exhibition events, including a 2021 meeting with Logan Paul.

After Mayweather comfortably outpointed Pacquiao in 2015, it was revealed Pacquiao competed with a torn rotator cuff.

Now, we could see the pair share the ring together again. And it’s the type of major event Netflix has shown interest in since entering the boxing space last year.

So far, the streaming giant, which has over 300 million subscribers, has delivered three boxing events: Mike Tyson-Jake Paul in November 2024, Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano 3 in July and September's Terence Crawford-Canelo Alvarez fight for The Ring and undisputed super middleweight championship.

The fourth comes November 14 in Miami with an exhibition between Jake Paul and boxing star Gervonta Davis.

What a load of rubbish. Netflix is not going to be a serious player in boxing. They just want high profile freakshow fights.

Pacquiao wants Mayweather rematch to be 'a real fight'

The bonus of Manny Pacquiao returning to the ring earlier this year to fight for a welterweight belt was the additional effort to dangle the strap before Floyd Mayweather Jnr for a rematch of their most lucrative prizefight ever.

Pacquiao’s draw against Mario Barrios Jnr didn’t net him the coveted prize, but the performance was strong enough to lure Mayweather to the discussion table.

Confirming a Monday report by The Ring, one official connected to the situation told Boxing Scene that talks indeed have been stirred between the two Hall of Fame fighters.

Later Monday, Pacquiao told Boxing Scene he intends for the bout to be "a real fight."

The Ring reported Netflix, which will stream the Jake Paul-Gervonta Davis exhibition November 14 in Miami, is interested in Mayweather-Pacquiao II.

Mayweather, 48, earlier this year announced his intent to fight former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, 59, in a 2026 exhibition and Pacquiao has been in talks for a late January bout against WBA welterweight champion Rolly Romero.

The Pacquiao-Romero bout would be shelved if Mayweather-Pacquiao II discussions can spawn an agreement, the official said.

“But who knows with these guys? You have to move mountains to get these two giant egos to agree,” the official said.

Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision in their 2015 bout at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, drawing a record 4.6 pay-per-view buys and generating more than $600 million in revenue.

Afterward, Pacquiao revealed he fought through a training-camp shoulder injury that required surgery after the bout, and he has longed for a second crack at Mayweather, telling BS before the Barrios bout that he was confident that putting on a strong showing would renew conversations between the pair.

That has now happened, but as the boxing world witnessed when both men were primed for a showdown in 2010 yet didn’t fight until a half decade later, striking a final deal could prove problematic.

I'm honestly not surprised they'd attempt to do this though. There's really only a handful of boxers that are genuinely famous to the average person, and these 2 are on that hand.

That being said, I hope it just doesn't come off, and we move on. I wouldn't mind really if they did it, but it would be really annoying to see all the hype for this fight, and how big of an event it'd be when there's ultimately really not a lot at stake other than Mayweather's unbeaten record.

Not whilst they can still get hundreds of millions of dollars for it.

And why not, since no actual boxing fans will be paying for it? Everyone by now knows this is purely for entertaining purposes, don't they?

Yes, yes we do end up ultimately contributing in one form or another (for funding the corporations behind the advertising, for increased Netflix subs etc) and the sport of boxing also risks further cutting it's own throat by losing whatever credibility it still had left.

But it's not credibility that counts, it's money in the bank.

And there's no shortage of that, not whilst "there's a sucker born every minute" as P. T. Barnum might have said.

It wouldn't necessarily be an insult to the sport if it were a legit contest. They're both closer to 50 than 40, but at least they're both basically in the same realm with that.

The more sad comment is on the fact that nobody has come along in the 10 years since their fight to become a bigger attraction.

Yes, this could be a problem for boxing if no one can fill in for the likes of Mayweather, Pacquiao and Canelo etc.

On the other hand, young guns like Moses Itauma might start thinking that the stars are all beginning to align for them...

Manny Pacquiao hints at possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather 10 years after first blockbuster meeting

Boxing legends Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather could fight once again, more than 10 years after their first meeting; the American won their first bout but Pacquiao revealed that after in a press conference that he entered the fight with an injured right shoulder

Manny Pacquiao has hinted a rematch of his blockbuster bout with Floyd Mayweather could be on the cards next year.

The two boxing legends fought in a superstar bout in May 2015 for the unified world welterweight title, where Mayweather took the win by unanimous decision.

Both fighters had previously retired from the sport but yet seem to be unable to stay away from the ring with Mayweather competing in exhibitions and Pacquiao returning to professional boxing in July this year.

"Right now we have a lot of negotiations about my next fight - there's a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather," Pacquiao said.

"There's a lot of ongoing negotiations right now, so it's hard to plan what fight I'm going to post. I'm waiting for the final negotiation.

"I'd love to have another fight, a rematch with Floyd Mayweather. So I hope that in the negotiations, we can understand each other and we can negotiate well."

A world champion in eight divisions from flyweight to super welterweight, Pacquiao was enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June.

A month later, he emerged from retirement and fell just short of regaining a title at the age of 46, with Mario Barrios retaining the WBC welterweight championship by majority draw.

Pacquiao initially retired in 2021 with a record of 62-8-2 with 39 KOs, fighting in some of the biggest blockbusters of the 2000s. He said he'd always sought the toughest opponents so he could continuing testing himself.

The Filipino boxer also served his country as a senator from 2016-22.

Pacquiao lost to Mayweather in 2015 in a bout that had been billed as the "fight of century," but he later disclosed he'd been hampered by a shoulder injury.

In the meantime, he'll be focusing on his son, Jimuel Pacquiao, who will make his pro debut against American Brendan Lally on November 29 in California.

"I'm excited, but I'm worried about my son," the former senator said. "He started late, but that is his passion, so I will support him. I'm praying for him for a safe fight."

‘I’m waiting for the final negotiation’: Manny Pacquiao in talks with Floyd Mayweather and Vasiliy Lomachenko

Manny Pacquiao says he would love a chance to rematch Floyd Mayweather.

During a press conference held by Manny Pacquiao, the Filipino legend spoke about continuing his fighting career and how he’s currently in the midst of negotiating his next outing. While most of us have already heard that Pacquiao is hoping to secure a rematch against Floyd Mayweather, he also says he’s in talks for a potential fight against Vasiliy Lomachenko who recently retired from the sport.

“There’s a lot of ongoing negotiations right now, so it’s hard to plan what fight I’m going to post,” Pacquiao said. “I’m waiting for the final negotiation. But right now we have a lot of negotiation about my next fight. There’s a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather, and also there’s a fight with Lomachenko and other fighters. So soon we are going to announce the final decision of what fight we’re going to post.

“I would love a rematch with Floyd Mayweather so I hope that the negotiations — that we can understand each other and we can negotiate well.”

Pacquiao returned to the ring this past July in a bid to become the oldest welterweight champion, but ended up with a majority draw against Mario Barrios. Pacquiao obviously at least looked good enough in that fight to warrant another outing, and there’s obviously no bigger payday out there for in in that regard as Mayweather.

Bruh. We don't need an update every time one of these motherf*ckers breathes.

They signed or they didn't. How many talks they talked about it don't mean a goddamn thing.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER VS. MANNY PACQUIAO REMATCH NEGOTIATIONS ONGOING, 'ALMOST IN AGREEMENT'

Hall of Fame fighters Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are gearing up for a rematch more than a decade after their lucrative encounter first took place.

As first reported by The Ring’s Mike Coppinger on Monday, negotiations are underway between the generational greats, and a fight could take place as soon as April at The Sphere in Las Vegas on Netflix.

On Thursday, Pacquiao released a statement to shed some more light on the potential sequel.

“I'm open [to the rematch with Mayweather Jr.] and there's an ongoing negotiation," said Pacquiao. "I am speaking [to my team] every day. If that negotiation goes well and the fight materializes, then we will announce the rematch. It’s a very interesting fight. Right now, I don’t have a shoulder problem, so it’s a good fight.

"I am sure the world of boxing will be excited if the rematch can be made. I feel like we are almost in agreement with each other. There are a lot of things we agree on, but there are just a few conditions we are still negotiating. If the fight happens, it will probably happen in Las Vegas.”

Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) beat Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) in 2015 by unanimous decision in a much-anticipated welterweight mega fight that was over five years in the making. The event generated 4.6 million PPV buys and a $72.2 million gate, both of which still stand as records. The event also reached $600 million in revenue.

Mayweather outlanded Pacquiao 148 to 81 in a fight that failed to live up to its massive expectations. Pacquiao revealed afterward that he was dealing with an existing shoulder injury, and the unreported development led two fans to pursue legal action against the Filipino, alleging fraud.

Mayweather fought just twice more afterwards and retired professionally in 2017. "Money May" has since competed in several lucrative exhibition matches. Mayweather, who turns 49 in February, recently announced that he was set to square off against Mike Tyson in an exhibition sometime in 2026.

Pacquiao, who turns 47 in December, returned from a four-year retirement in July and fought to a majority draw against WBC champion Mario Barrios. Earlier this month, Pacquiao announced that he would be fighting again on January 24 in Las Vegas. An opponent was not named at the time, but it was believed to be WBA welterweight champion Rolando Romero.

I wish Mayweather Jr would just go and look after his grandchildren and Pacquiao can go and try to be the Filipino President.

They made us wait 6 years for one of the most tedious superfights ever and they want to do it again more than a decade later when both are homing in on 50?

Hell no! :witzend:

Pacquiao Agrees Spring Rematch, Mayweather Terms Still Pending

WBN can exclusively reveal that Floyd Mayweather, returning to the ring after eight years, and Manny Pacquiao, approaching 47, have mutually agreed to meet again.

Organizers informed WBN they are targeting a late-April or early-May date.

Leading the breaking news from the first confirmation, WBN provides the first major Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 update since talks reignited.

As previously reported by WBN, Indistry Media Inc. will lead the promotion. Indistry is an entertainment company that produces high-touch, immersive entertainment across live sports/esports, music, and lifestyle events.

In a further update, a spokesperson has clarified that they are not involved in any discussions regarding WBA welterweight champion Rolly Romero.

The development arrives during one of boxing’s most unpredictable news stretches, landing days after Mike Tyson claimed he would face Mayweather in Africa this March.

Even if Tyson fights Mayweather in March, or Pacquiao faces Romero, neither changes the April–May window for MayPac 2.
