Gervonta Davis-Jake Paul fight threatened by case against Davis

All options are on the table.

That’s what an individual briefed on Gervonta Davis’ ability to remain as Jake Paul’s November 14 exhibition fight opponent in Miami told Boxing Scene on Friday as Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions is actively assessing the situation.

WBA lightweight titleholder Davis, 30-0-1 (28 KOs), was named in Miami-Dade civil court this week for battery, kidnapping and three other counts connected to his alleged attack of a woman at a Florida nightclub earlier this week.

Although another domestic violence case against Davis was dropped earlier this year after it contributed to the scrapping of plans for him to fight junior lightweight belt holder Lamont Roach Jnr in a rematch of their March 1 draw in Brooklyn, New York, this latest incident has chilled those involved in the planned Miami exhibition versus YouTuber and WBA-ranked cruiserweight Paul.

One individual briefed on the matter told BS that several matters have been discussed, including:

– Replacing Davis with another opponent, although just two weeks remain before the November 14 fight date.

– Postponing the bout.

– Speculating whether Netflix will scrap the bout given the sensitivity to the seriousness of the allegations against Davis by Courtney Rossel, who claims in the case that she was choked, grabbed and pushed by Davis while also being hit in the back of the head.

Davis is accused of false imprisonment, aggravated battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Boxing Scene reported earlier this week that Davis is described in the suit as someone who “has a propensity and pattern of violence upon women.” It also claims that Davis had been violent toward Rossel – even threatening to kill her more than once – on at least four other occasions before Monday’s alleged incident.

Although Paul fought cruiserweight and former middleweight titlist Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr this summer and expressed interest in meeting a cruiserweight belt holder such as Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez or Badou Jack, Ramirez is sidelined by an injury treated by surgery and Jack has a December 13 title defense scheduled.

Nakisa Bidarian, who heads Most Valuable Promotions, did not immediately return messages left to him by BS on Friday.

At least that's an opponent closer to his weight.
Berlanga would be interesting and a good test to see how "good" Jake Paul actually is.

That came to my mind as well, when I was writing it :D
To be fair, that fight was almost 3 years ago. Tommy only fought twice and barley beat this KSI guy.
I could see Paul winnig the rematch. Not like it would mean much though.

JAKE PAUL’S COMPANY REVIEWING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST GERVONTA DAVIS

Jake Paul’s promotional company hasn’t determined whether he will move forward with his November 14 fight against Gervonta Davis because of the most recent domestic violence allegations made against Davis.

Most Valuable Promotions, co-founded by Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, are reportedly exploring options to replace Davis based on the civil lawsuit an ex-girlfriend filed against him this week. Netflix is scheduled to stream their highly publicized cruiserweight exhibition from Kaseya Center in Miami.

“Most Valuable Promotions immediately initiated an investigation upon learning of the civil lawsuit filed against Gervonta Davis in Miami-Dade County on October 30th, 2025,” MVP announced in a statement released Saturday afternoon. “At this time, we are gathering information and reviewing the details to ensure any decision we make is thoroughly vetted. We unequivocally condemn any form of violence and are committed to handling this matter with diligence and respect for all involved. We will make a determination on next steps once we have completed our review and consulted with the appropriate parties. Until then, we will not be commenting further.”

Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix reported Paul’s handlers approached the team of Davis’ rival, Ryan Garcia, about replacing him on short notice. Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia’s promoter, stated on social media Saturday that Garcia can’t replace Davis because he is contractually committed to fighting on DAZN or DAZN Pay-Per-View.

The Ring’s Mike Coppinger later reported Saturday that representatives for Garcia and WBC welterweight champ Mario Barrios are negotiating for them to fight early in 2026.

As for Davis, Courtney Rossel, Davis’ ex-girlfriend, accused him of aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress in a lawsuit filed Thursday. One of Rossel’s attorneys, Jeffery Chukwuma, told ESPN.com on Thursday that a police report was also filed on her behalf Tuesday with the Miami Gardens Police Department.

In the complaint, Rossel alleged Davis took her against her will Tuesday night out of Tootsie’s Cabaret, a Miami gentlemen’s club where she was employed as a VIP cocktail server. She claimed Davis dragged her out of the back exit and into a nearby parking garage, where he assaulted her.

Rossel also alleged Davis, 30, abused her on several prior occasions during their five-month relationship.

Her lawsuit was filed only two months after domestic violence charges involving the mother of two of Davis’ three children were dropped.

Davis was imprisoned in his hometown of Baltimore in June 2023 for violating terms of his home detention sentence stemming from a hit-and-run accident he caused in November 2020. The WBA lightweight champion was released after spending 44 days in jail.

The left-handed Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) has fought only twice since his release in July 2023. He barely escaped defeat in his last fight, a controversial majority draw with Lamont Roach on March 1 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Davis and Roach were supposed to partake in an immediate rematch. Davis instead decided to oppose the much bigger, less experienced Paul (12-1, 7 KOs), a polarizing influencer with whom Davis’ team negotiated before he faced Roach.

Yeah, right. As if it’s gonna be Ngannou.
Like he’d go from having a 20 kg weight advantage to over a 30 kg disadvantage.

They’ll throw some big names around, and then it’s actually gonna end up being Nate f**king Diaz.

I'm mostly glad about the whole thing getting canceled because Tank has done absolutely nothing to deserve a payday like that in Boxing.

He's a guy that's wasted his entire career doing nothing with his talent except for beating up Ryan Garcia, and his Girlfriend.
