Froch rumoured to be fighting Jake Paul

Post by Controversial »

This seems to be doing the rounds on social media, the Davis “fight” apparently in jeopardy after fresh allegations against him and JP in talks with Froch to jump in as a late replacement

If Froch got beat by JP he'd have to go and live on the moon out of the way

He might get a few mill for fighting Till, but he will get a cart full of mills to fight JP

Nobody can turn down that sort of money against the top boys, getting that for JP is a dream come true

Shrewd operator Carl inside and outside the ring.

He's carved a nice little social media niche for himself with his boxing hall of famer / SMW world champion / 80,000 at Wembley schtick, i don't think he'd want to jeopardise the credibility that underpins his boastful online persona by taking a shellacking from JP

If late 40s Anderson Silva can push Jake Paul I don't think late 40s Carl Froch would have any problems avoiding a shellacking

For the money on offer, Froch would probably happily lick JPs scrotum

How old is Froch? He'd be like 45 or so right?

Oof. I don't think he can beat Jake Paul then. A few years ago he would've, but now he probably can't sad to say. I'd be quite surprised though if he couldn't give Jake his toughest fight. Unless he just kinda didn't care to.

With the amount of money on offer, he can't lose

Oh yeah. He has no reason not to do it. If people say it would hurt his legacy. I mean...he was like the 3rd or 4th best Super Middleweight of his generation. That's a very respectable career, but not the kinda fighter people will remember for the ages.

So why not make it something much more valuable in the form of money.

Would probably be like 10x the biggest purse of his entire career prior to this right?

I dunno, maybe he got about 8 million for Groves 2.
So maybe like 4 times!!

Nevertheless, even though he has a reputation for looking after his money, and doesn't need it, this money is huge, no worries about money ever

Carl is boxing royalty in the UK but i don't think he's anywhere near to being a big enough name worldwide to generate the numbers that would give him a purse of even £5m

In a genuine fight I'd pick old man Froch all day, but I'd be surprised if Paul accepted. Groves is a different kettle because his style relied on youth and reflexes.

So long as Froch can still take a fair shot and has about five rounds of fitness in him...

I know Froch is a bit of a hero and he wouldn’t really care, but hes might lose, I don’t know what the right word it isn’t respect but a bit like that, if he keeps mouthing off to say he could still batter Paul and TIll but then doesn’t take them on.

I seriously doubt an ex pro of 48 who hasn't fought for close to 15 years could beat JP no matter how good he was. I'm 48 and I feel like absolute aids compared to when I was in my early 30s

Mike Tyson had come out of retirement to fight Jake Paul, the man was 76 years old! (In an alleged exhibition.)

I think a lot of it depends on the nature of the fight.

I'm a bit younger than you and my running pace is still 90% what it was 15 years ago, and I lift the same weights. More creaks etc but I don't feel dramatically older. The biggest decline I've noticed is in my short-term recovery, where I can run as far as I used to at a slow pace and not far off my PBs at tempo, but find intervals harder for sure.

Froch is canny enough to work the last 30 seconds of rounds to get around this, putting the onus on Paul to break him up downstairs. I just don't think Paul's got the skills to force Froch into repeat max efforts to exploit his age, and he's unlikely to exhaust himself prematurely with nerves.

If they agreed to 10 rounds and Froch was in good shape halfway, I'd expect Paul to wilt.
