Apologies in advance if this is not what people want to read on here but just in case anyone's interested some of my old stuff is in an online auction ending on Wednesday (12th)

The auction house set the fees, so if some seem a bit high, apologies.
Lot 256, my complete set of Ring Record Books 1941/2-86/7, 45 books, opening bid, i.e reserve £125
Lot 257, Pancratia, 1812, boxing history up to that time - expensive at £360 opening bid but very rare
Lot 258, The 3-volume set of Pugilistica, opening bid £80
Lot 259, 3 bound volumes - all 156 issues of Famous Fights (published 1904-06) opening bid £90
Lot 263, Original poster from the Empire Pool, Wembley, 1935, Eddie Phillips-Eddie Wenstob, opening bid £20
Lot 263, Assortment of 11 old books including Fleischer's biographies of Max Baer & Gene Tunney, opening bid £40

Various other bits and pieces. Some of the newspaper cuttings I bought from Reg Gutteridge in the 90s and sorted into files. The auction house sorted it out and have marketed it. They were things I treasured and used but time to move everything on now I'm not involved in boxing. I need the space.

My thoughts entirely. Mr Mee is clearly very humble but the fact that he owned them increases their value for me. I’m going to have a bid as a treat.

The loss of writers to the sport like Mr Mee is so telling these days.

If you don’t mind can I ask why you decided to leave the boxing world? Politics? Disillusionment? Hasn’t Claude Abrams also stopped any work in boxing?

No I don't mind you asking. There was so much more I wanted to do in life that I hadn't had time for, so best to draw a line and go rather than hang around and become even more of a relic than I already was. Put another way, better to walk away too soon rather than too late. Sorry I don't know what Claude's doing.

Thanks you for the reply Bob. I hope you fulfilled your other goals. I think Claude has totally disassociated himself from boxing.

Claude had a crisis of conscience and stepped away. He's still big into fitness and clean living but said he could no longer be involved in a sport that physically damages the participants.

It's on at the February Library Sale on www.the-saleroom.com or via www.hansonsauctioneers.co.uk
Items left include a full set of Ring Record Books 1941-87, fixed reserve of £60 for the whole set (plus auction fees), 6 bound volumes of Boxing News, 55-57, 61-63,, no reserve, and a bound volume of The Ring (Feb 1950-Jan 1951), no reserve, and an original 1935 poster from Wembley - Eddie Phillips-Ed Wenstob, which has a bid of £10 on it. It's a small part of the auction, so you have to trawl through to find it.
I'm freeing up space in the house, contributing to the Cystic Fibrosis Research Trust at the same time. When this auction is done, anyone is welcome to come and pick up any of my other old boxing books/ bits and pieces that are left. I don't want anything for them but if you want to donate to the CF Trust that would be kind. There's nothing that's particularly valuable or rare. If no one wants them, they'll go to a charity shop or just out.

There are just too many books to check them all today but there are plenty of biographies/ autobiographies, mostly the usual, but one or two more obscure ones - Lewis, Louis, Ali of course, Liston, Foreman, Jimmy Bivins, Ruby Goldstein, Teddy Baldock, Haye, Sullivan, Tyson, Cooper, Ray Robinson, Bruno, Johnny Owen, Freddie Mills.
Once next week's auction's done (on Wednesday), I can think about the rest of what I have.

I have a couple for definite (I’ve got Johnny Owen’s but haven’t read it yet) and there a couple I lent to someone many years ago who sadly passed away and I didn’t get them back.
