Eddie Hearn promises to deliver ‘best card we have ever staged in Monte Carlo’

Matchroom Boxing’s Monte Carlo annual show will take place on December 6.

It is thought that returning heavyweight Johnny Fisher and two-time world champion Joe Cordina will be on the Monte Carlo Showdown VI card at Sporting Monte-Carlo’s Salle Des Étoiles. The card is set to include “world title fights and household names” but there has been no confirmation about who will appear.

Previous attaractions at Matchroom’s Monte Carlo fight nights have included Murodjon “MJ” Akhmadaliev versus Ricardo Espinoza Franco, Beatriz Ferreira-Licia Boudersa, Leonardo Mosquea-Chev Clarke, and Maxi Hughes-Gary Cully.

Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn said: “This really is a special event for Matchroom Boxing – and this year you will see the best card we have ever staged in the Principality.

“Monte-Carlo oozes with class and, over the years, we have matched it by delivering some truly memorable Fight Nights showcasing some of the biggest and best talent in the sport.

Press Release

One of the most prestigious dates on the calendar has officially been confirmed as Matchroom Boxing look forward to returning to the Principality of Monaco for the Monte-Carlo Showdown VI on Saturday, December 6 – in partnership with Société des Bains de Mer and Casino de Monte-Carlo.

Streamed live around the world on DAZN, another blockbuster, festive fixture awaits at Sporting Monte-Carlo’s exquisite Salle Des Étoiles.

The exciting full card – which will see World Title fights and household names alike – will be confirmed in due course.

Last year, former unified World Super-Bantamweight king Murodjon ‘MJ’ Akhmadaliev stole the show when he defeated Ricardo Espinoza Franco to then capture the WBA Interim Super-Bantamweight World Championship and set-up the Uzbek’s recent Undisputed showdown with Naoya Inoue.

Brazil’s unbeaten Beatriz Ferreira shone too when she successfully defended her IBF Lightweight World Title against France’s seasoned Licia Boudersa, whilst Leonardo Mosquea defeated Britain’s Chev Clarke for the European Cruiserweight Championship.Maxi Hughes, meanwhile, prevailed in a pulsating battle with Ireland’s Gary Cully.

“Saturday, December 6, promises to match it once more with another unmissable evening. Get your tickets – and be ready to look sharp in your tuxedo too.”

Official early bird ticket packages, for two people, are on-sale today, starting from £1400. That includes a two-night stay at the 5-star Hotel Hermitage, Monte-Carlo (Friday 5th – Sunday 7th December, 2025), with guaranteed access to the Weigh-In, a meet and greet with promoter Eddie Hearn, a Fight Night poster exclusively signed by the Main Event fighters, and two reserved floor Fight Night tickets.

Beatriz Ferreira-Elif Nurhan Turhan title fight eyed for Dec. 6 Monte Carlo show

Beatriz Ferreira will roll the dice in Monte Carlo.

Boxing Scene has learned that the double Olympic medalist will head back to Monaco. Brazil’s Ferreira will risk her IBF 135lbs title and unbeaten record against Turkey’s Elif Nur Turhan on December 6 as part of Matchroom Boxing’s annual Monte Carlo show.

Ferreira, 8-0 (2 KOs), will attempt the fourth defense of the IBF title she claimed in a technical decision win over Yanina del Carmen Lescano last April 27 in Liverpool, England. She retained the crown for the first time in her previous trip to the French Riviera, in a ten-round shutout over France’s Licia Boudersa last December 14.

The latter win came after her second Olympic bid, where Ferreira returned home from Paris last summer with a bronze medal. She previously claimed a silver medal during the delayed Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

While disappointed that she didn’t claim Gold during 2024 Paris, Ferreira’s pro career has since flourished.

The timing of her next bout will mark four ring appearances in a 51-week span. It will serve as her third fight in 2025, a campaign which included a homecoming headliner when she outpointed Maira Moneo over ten rounds on September 27 in her Sao Paulo hometown.

Ferreira’s lightweight reign came about after a decision to move up from junior featherweight, a move mirrored by her next challenger.

Nur Turhan claimed an interim version of the WBA 130lbs title with a sixth-round knockout of unbeaten Rima Ayadi on August 28 on the road in Enghien, France.

The win was her first after she signed with Matchroom, a move that came shortly after her 47-second blitzing of Shauna Brown on March 1 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Nur Turhan took the fight – a WBC title eliminator – on just 10 days’ notice after she and her team messaged Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn almost daily in search of any opportunity.

The moment was seized and then some, as was her secondary title winning effort over Ayadi.

Nur Turhan will now face her third consecutive unbeaten opponent in a bid to become a major titleholder. The ambitious run is hardly a surprise; the 30-year-old Nur Turhan is an integral figure in Turkey’s revitalized boxing scene, particularly among women.

More details are forthcoming on what Matchroom promised to be its best Monte Carlo offering to date. The global promotional outfit returns to the destination for the third straight year after a four-year run from 2016-2019 of at least one event in the luxurious region.

Masoud v McGrail is a top quality fight.

Does Masoud have a decent following from Stoke? If not, they should add Nathan Heaney to the card to get a mob out there.

I'll be honest it feels like a bit of a waste having these two fight in a posh venue down there when they're only 60 miles apart back in England.

Would love to hear the views from people in the UK.

Shabaz Masoud-Peter McGrail leads Monte Carlo bill on December 6

The European junior-featherweight title fight between Britons Shabaz Masoud and Peter McGrail is to headline the Matchroom promotion at Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo on December 6.

Thirteen months will have passed since Masoud, 29, excelled throughout his victory over Liam Davies. The also-29-year-old McGrail has won four successive fights since losing for the first time in his career, to Ja’Rico O’Quinn in December 2023.

Brazil’s Beatriz Ferreira will defend her IBF lightweight title against Elif Nur Turhan of Turkey in the chief support.

“I was gutted when the fight got postponed the first time around,” said Masoud. “But for it to now be headlining in Monte Carlo, one of the most luxurious destinations in the world – I’m excited. I think it’s going to be a fan-friendly fight and one that will leave a mark on the fans who attend and those who tune in.”

“It’s time to shine baby,” said McGrail. “I have never been so excited for a fight since my debut. I’m number one.”

The British heavyweight Johnny Fisher will also fight for the first time since his first defeat, by David Allen in May, since when he has separated from his then-trainer Mark Tibbs to recruit Tony Sims. Fisher has been matched with Herbert Matovu of Uganda.

There will also be an all-British welterweight contest between Conah Walker and Pat McCormack, and the junior welterweight Hugo Micallef – of Monte Carlo – fights Ireland’s Sean McComb.

The Welsh lightweight Joe Cordina had previously been expected to feature on the same promotion, but he is instead on course to fight Gabriel Flores Jnr on the undercard of Diego Pacheco-Kevin Lele Sadjo in Stockton, California on December 13.

Shabaz Masoud-Peter McGrail Tops Matchroom's Monte-Carlo Show, Dec. 6

Five months after withdrawing from their original fight booking through a training injury, Shabaz Masoud-Peter McGrail is headed overseas.

The two junior featherweights will duel in a 12-round Monte Carlo headliner from Salle des Étoiles, Monaco for the vacant European title streamed live worldwide on DAZN.

It's a belt last held by Dennis McCann before the unbeaten Briton was stripped through inactivity and listed as the next mandatory defence, having originally been slated to box McGrail in December 2024 before news of an adverse drug finding.

Masoud will end a year-long layoff with this contest, having pitched a career-best effort to outbox Liam Davies in a gritty 12-round split decision win last time out.

McGrail (12-1, 6 KOs) has won a pair of deceptively difficult assignments against short-notice opponents, first McCann's replacement Rhys Edwards last December before spoiler Ionut Baluta on June 21.

Ben Davison-trained Masoud is excited to headline one of the world's most luxurious destinations and expects a fan-friendly fight, per comments in the promotion's press release.

In the evening's chief support bout, Brazil's Beatriz Ferreira makes her fourth IBF world lightweight title defence against Turkey's hard-hitting Elif Nur Turhan in a compelling clash of unbeaten boxers.

Turhan (11-0, 7 KOs) told The Ring last month of her willingness to compete at 130 and 135-pounds. Now, she gets an opportunity at full world title honours while WBA junior lightweight champion Alycia Baumgardner handles business against Leila Beaudoin.

The 30-year-old from Istanbul has skyrocketed in popularity over the past year with a trio of stoppage victories and is promising a real war against someone she's long followed, but Ferreira isn't shying away.

Per the press release, the beltholder said: "My coming is coming with a big reputation but the bigger the challenge, the better I perform. I am ready to fight anyone out there to prove that I am the best in the world."

Pat McCormack's one-sided WBA welterweight title eliminator win over Miguel Parra last month hasn't gone unnoticed, but Conah Walker will seek to spoil the Olympic silver medallist's lofty plans in the Principality.

Walker, who watched former foe Lewis Crocker win the IBF title four weeks ago, will be itching to catapult his name towards the world stage and can do exactly that if able to upset another Davison-trained fighter in WBA's No. 4-rated contender McCormack.

"My amateur career has taken me around the world and now I'm excited to visit one of the few locations it hasn't yet taken me," McCormack said.

"Me and Conah are two fighters with great momentum. Many thought he beat Lewis Crocker who is the current world champion, so I'm looking forward to using that to make a statement."

Popular heavyweight Johnny Fisher's rebuild begins under new trainer Tony Sims in Monte-Carlo, five months after a damaging fifth-round stoppage defeat in his Dave Allen rematch.

He'll box Uganda's Herbert Matovu (9-1, 8 KOs), who campaigned at 200-pounds and was stopped in two rounds by highly-rated cruiserweight contender Umar Salamov in February.

Elsewhere, junior welterweight Sean McComb spoke of an eagerness to produce a world-class performance against Monaco native Hugo Micallef (11-0, 3 KOs) as he returns after recovering from a first-round knockdown to outpoint Ben Crocker in Sheffield last month.

Masoud vs McGrail headlines Monte Carlo despite title snub

Matchroom Boxing returns to the luxurious Monte Carlo Casino on December 6 with a stacked card headlined by one of Britain’s most intriguing domestic clashes — Shabaz Masoud vs Peter McGrail — but not without controversy.

The International Boxing Organization (IBO) has publicly stated that the bout, initially billed as a world title fight, has not been approved.

“The IBO has not agreed to this. We will not permit a World Title with a Regional title (European),” the sanctioning body confirmed via social media.

That clarification means Masoud and McGrail will instead contest the European Super Bantamweight Title, which strips away some of the global stakes but retains all of the competitive intrigue.

Both fighters are on the cusp of world-level recognition — though McGrail has one loss — and are vying to emerge as the next standout at 122 pounds.

Masoud (14-0, 4 KOs) brings refined technique and poise, while McGrail (12-1, 6 KOs) carries decorated amateur credentials and relentless forward pressure.

Their meeting promises a pure clash of styles with significant implications for the victor and for Britain’s super bantamweight scene.

Peter McGrail says Shabaz Masoud doesn’t bring anything he hasn’t seen before

On December 6, in Monte Carlo, two of Britain’s very best technicians will square off in the super-bantamweight division.

In one corner you will find Peter McGrail, a 29-year-old southpaw from Liverpool, while in the other waits Shabaz Masoud, also 29 but orthodox in stance and hailing from Rochdale. Both have world title aspirations and both have the talent to one day make those aspirations a reality.

First, though, they contest the European title next month.

“This is the fight we’ve always wanted,” said McGrail at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. “It’s another stepping stone towards a world title. Once I’m European champion on December 6, hopefully Matchroom [McGrail’s promoter] can deliver. We want the world title shot.”

McGrail, 12-1 (6), has been almost faultless so far as a pro. His one defeat to date was a shocker – against Ja'Rico O'Quinn in 2023 – but since then he has sharpened up and seemingly become an even better fighter. Last time out he outboxed Ionut Baluta, a dangerous brawler from Romania, and McGrail fully expects to do something similar to Masoud, a counterpuncher, on December 6.

“I just believe I’m a better fighter than Shabaz Masoud,” said McGrail. “I’m not taking anything away from him, he’s a really good fighter, and it was a great win against [Liam] Davies, but I’m a completely different fighter and it’s a completely different fight. He has never been in the ring with anyone like me. I don’t think he brings to the table anything I haven’t seen before throughout my career. It’s down to me to show that on December 6.”

Although Masoud’s breakout win against Davies was some 12 months ago, it still sticks in the memory. So good was Masoud that night, Davies, the favourite, had no answer and found himself punished every time he either got desperate or made a mistake.

Had it not been for injuries this year, Masoud, 12-0 (4 KOs), would have no doubt capitalised on that Davies decision win and taken his career to even greater heights.

As it is, he must make up for lost time against McGrail.

“He's a very good fighter and the level I’m at now, I want these kinds of fights,” said Masoud. “I feel like the better the opposition, the better I perform as well. Take nothing away from Peter, I believe the best Peter is going to come, but I’ll always believe the best Shabaz is going to beat the best Peter.

“We’re so close [to a world title shot], but I’ve always said, ‘One fight at a time.’ I’m so focused on this fight. I just need to get the job done now. I’m excited.”

Watching the McGrail O’Quinn fight again, what an upset that was - the Brit was looking like a world champion there in the fifth round, wrapping up the show, knocking O’Quinn down for the 2nd time, starting to showboat…a lesson learned. He was coming onto that shot, and the punch of a life time from O’Quinn, but still, there’s probably a weakness there.

Top tier commentary, shows you how it should be - fantastic insight from Barry, reading the subtle shifts and patterns, Sergio too, plus low-key unobtrusive main lead commentary from the American, not getting overexcited until that truly shocking climax.

Noticeable the American hasn’t fought since for two years, presumably preserving himself for the lucrative rematch, which Peter wants, but Eddie doesn’t

Pat McCormack's first acid test as a professional IMO.

McCormack has looked so accomplished thus far. Very interested to see if Pat can take it up another notch.

Conah Walker To Exploit Pat McCormack's Bad Habits, Predicts One-Sided Beatdown

Reputations mean little to Conah Walker.

On December 6, the 30-year-old will travel to Monte Carlo on the French Riviera for the second defence of his British welterweight title against Pat McCormack.

Victory will edge him closer to a shot at a 147-pound world title belt, seizing McCormack's No. 4 rating with the WBA in the process.

Walker (16-3-1, 7 KOs) was never supposed to reach this level. The 30-year-old from Wolverhampton has had to battle and scrap his way up from the ground floor. McCormack (8-0, 6 KOs) has been groomed for moments like this since winning a silver medal at the delayed 2020 Olympic Games.

"Look, he can be who he wants: an Olympic silver medallist, be Muhammad 'I’m hard Bruce Lee'. It doesn't matter,” Walker told The Ring.

"I know how good he is, a very good fighter but got to be good for the 12 rounds whereas I've only got to be good for 15 seconds and once I land on him, it’s just going to be a barrage."

Although undoubtedly gifted, McCormack is also 30 and has boxed just eight times with 45 rounds' experience since turning professional in March 2023. Over that same period, Walker has established himself as one of the most improved, entertaining fighters in British boxing.

He has beaten prospects like Cyrus Pattinson as well as veterans like Lewis Ritson and Liam Taylor.

In January, he tore the British and Commonwealth titles from a respected, solid champion in Harry Scarff while pushing current IBF world champion Lewis Crocker to the very brink during a brutal 10-round war seven months earlier.

Walker's heart and grit have never been in question but the past three years have also taught him exactly what he is capable of technically. He believes he's answered questions that McCormack hasn't yet been posed.

"He's still got to prove it to himself. He's a great fighter, don't get me wrong. He's very talented, but yet to prove what I've proved to myself and everyone who watches me," he said.

"People know what to expect when I come out and play ball. I know what I've got in the locker - he's yet to find that out. I wish him all the best but I'm not going to leave that ring without the W."

Even during an up and down start to his professional career, Walker was an upbeat character with an unshakeable belief that he would eventually be successful. Now that his efforts are finally being rewarded, that self-confidence has turned into a genuine confidence he's destined for the very top.

Walker has targeted a step into world class in 2026 and doesn't see any way that McCormack can derail those plans.

"I believe it's going to be a one-sided beatdown on my behalf," he continued.

"He hasn’t been challenged, hasn't ticked the boxes that I've ticked. He beat a past-his-best Robbie Davies - who shouldn't have been in the ring - and a 40-year-old Mexican [Miguel Parra, whom McCormack stopped in September, is actually 32]. There’s nothing there, I've been ringside for his fights and wasn't impressed.

"He hasn't got the power to hold me off. The ring IQ, he hasn't developed as a professional fighter yet. He's still got amateur traits, bad habits and I'm going to exploit them."

Fisher reminds me of Seth Mitchell a little bit. II have a feeling he'll get chinned again soon and that'll be the end of him.
