Joseph Parker tested positive for cocaine on day of Fabio Wardley fight
Former world boxing champion Joseph Parker tested positive for cocaine on day of Fabio Wardley fight
A source told SunSport of their surprise at the revelation
JOSEPH PARKER failed a drugs test for cocaine on the day of his Fabio Wardley war.
The 33-year-old New Zealand heavyweight and father of six was tested by the Voluntary Anti Doping Agency on October 25.
And the adverse analytical finding was revealed on Friday morning.
Team Parker has the opportunity to have the B-sample tested.
However in the vast majority of cases, the A and B sample results are identical.
Parker explained that for his whole camp he had his wife and children in Ireland and London with him, making an encounter with the party drug seem even more surprising.
Cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine traces usually remain in urine for around four days, meaning Parker must have contracted the drug in the crucial fight week build-up.
SunSport attended the Thursday Greenwich press conference where Parker took the stage with the Ipswich hero.
The media proceedings were cordial and Parker seemed settled.
However, Wardley stayed back to host dozens of individual interviews after Parker vanished without conducting any.
SunSport understands Parker is currently on holiday after the gruelling 11-round clash.
A stunned source close to the camp told SunSport: “I am absolutely shocked.
“This has been the first camp where Joe has all of his family around.
“The camp had gone great and he put on a good performance in a great fight.”
The VADA will now hand their findings over to UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control who police and punish doping in tandem.
Parker could face a two-year ban, even though cocaine is a recreational drug and not a performance enhancing drug or PED.

Re: Joseph Parker tested positive for cocaine on day of Fabio Wardley fight
What is cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine?
Benzoylecgonine is the main inactive metabolite of cocaine.
Here’s a simple breakdown of what that means and why it’s significant:
What is a “Metabolite”? When you ingest a drug like cocaine, your body (primarily your liver) breaks it down into other substances. These new substances are called metabolites.
Benzoylecgonine’s Role: Benzoylecgonine is the specific substance that cocaine is converted into as it’s processed by the body.
Why It’s Important (Drug Testing): This is the key point. The “high” from cocaine is short-lived because the active cocaine is cleared from the bloodstream very quickly (within a few hours).
However, the benzoylecgonine metabolite stays in the body for much longer—it can be detected in urine for several days (or even longer in heavy users) after the cocaine was last used.
For this reason, standard drug tests (like urine, blood, or hair tests) almost never look for cocaine itself; they look for benzoylecgonine. Its presence is the definitive proof that a person has recently used cocaine.

The ref unintentionally saved us from a huge mess.
Re: Joseph Parker tested positive for cocaine on day of Fabio Wardley fight
If the B sample comes back the same, this is one of the stupidest things done by someone who is supposed to be a sensible boxer... Getting coked up within 4 days of a fight this big. Very probable he would have won if he didn't do it.

When does the B Sample ever differ?
Wasn’t he linked with drugs before? Or the supply of it. Or have I imagined that?
Re: Joseph Parker tested positive for cocaine on day of Fabio Wardley fight
If anything, a ban should be given to him for danger to his health, not performance enhancing, unless he was using it during the fight.
Re: Joseph Parker tested positive for cocaine on day of Fabio Wardley fight
This is the one time I've thought: surely this must be a false positive?
I get doing coke after a fight, but doing it while training has never made any sense to me at all. Cocaine comedowns used to leave me full of anxiety and dread, absolutely not the sort of mindset I'd want to be entertaining going into a fight. Maybe I'm wired different, as I know loads of people who would do coke and then get up and live seemingly normal lives the next day?
But if I were to do it now I'd have to make sure I had nothing to do for the next three days after. I wouldn't even want to go down the gym for my normal workout, let alone train for a big fight!

I think there was a weird accusation that he was involved with major drug smugglers I think back in new Zealand. He's also one of Dr Uz's clients which, alongside his new physique, is usually an indication he's been using PEDs.Frostieballs wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025, 06:09When does the B Sample ever differ?

He used to be Tyson Fury's drinking buddy. If that's not a link I don't know what is.Frostieballs wrote: ↑14 Nov 2025, 06:09When does the B Sample ever differ?

Report: Joseph Parker Tests Positive For Cocaine on Day of Wardley Fight
Former WBO world heavyweight champion Joseph Parker failed a drugs test for cocaine on the day of his 11th-round stoppage defeat by Fabio Wardley, it has been revealed.
The 33-year-old was tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) and the adverse analytical finding was revealed on Friday morning, per a report in The Sun.
Two sources close to Team Parker have conveyed their dismay to The Ring at the findings, for which he has an opportunity to have his B-sample tested.
In most cases however, the A and B-sample results are identical and traces of cocaine, known as benzoylecgonine, can be detected in urine for several days after taking the drug - meaning it would have been taken at some stage during fight week.
Parker (36-4, 24 KOs) is said to be currently on holiday, and while eager for redemption after his latest defeat, his manager David Higgins told The Ring there was no expectation on his charge to return for a 'little while' before this development.
The VADA will now handover their findings to UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control, who oversee doping and punish offenders.
Although cocaine is a recreational drug and not performance-enhancing, the Kiwi could potentially face a two-year suspension.

I seem to recall Liam Cameron getting 4 years for coke (not the two being reported for Parker).
We will see how even handed the law is now that one of the big boys has been accused.

"Parker and his legal team have been waging a war to keep his name suppressed in relation to the trial of a drug syndicate importing methamphetamine into New Zealand from California.
Louisa Kraitzick, partner at Pead PR, believes to the outside world it could appear that the appearances and videos have been to polish his reputation in case his name came out.
On Friday it was released.
“It will only be for him and his team to know if it was done in a bid to protect his reputation,” Kraitzick says.
Despite his actions over the past year, she still believes the former world champion boxer has some work to do in the eyes of the New Zealand public.
“I think he’s got a long road to resolve for his reputation. I think it will be really important for him to be reiterating he hasn’t been charged with anything, but many Kiwis will think where there’s smoke, there’s fire, so he’s going to have to resolve that.”
Kraitzick says this exemplifies that all publicity is not good publicity.
“It can ruin careers and destroy good reputations.
“What he does next is going to be really important … He is going to have to do a lot of talking.”
The Crown alleged during the trial of three men that Parker played a role in importing methamphetamine by transporting and changing currency for the syndicate trafficking the drug.
Parker has denied all allegations and says he has never bought, supplied or consumed methamphetamine.
Name suppression was lifted at 2pm yesterday, after the Supreme Court dismissed Parker’s leave to appeal to the highest court in the land."

"Later in October 2017, a WhatsApp message from Kulu to Finau mentioned a person named “Parker” was with a man named George and “they need that white”.
Finau responded: “Yeah, give it 2 him”.
A veteran police officer gave evidence during the trial about coded drug language and told jurors “white” often referred to methamphetamine, and sometimes cocaine.
When Finau’s phone was examined by police, they found a series of messages on encrypted message service Wickr, between Finau and a contact on his phone with the name “joeboxerparker”.
In the messages, “joeboxerparker” told Finau he had “300 but boys have the other so let me know when you can get”. The pair then arranged to meet up.
The following day Finau told “joeboxerparker” he wanted his “coin”. “joeboxerparker” said he had just finished training so Finau could come and get it “anytime bro”.
More messages between the pair were exchanged in November 2017, and saw “joeboxerparker” asking Finau if he needed a “new contact”.
“Trust me, it’s the best stuff out,” “joeboxerparker” told Finau.
Finau responded, asking for details on pricing and “joeboxerparker” sent through the man’s contact details, saying: “He’s a good dude with the best stuff.”
The following day, Finau said he had “got some”. “joeboxerparker” told him he would come and see him and would bring some money. He also asked for a “taster”."

Following on from this it makes you wonder why some fighters retire multiple times and then make comebacks, is it because there is no testing when they are retired.
