November 22nd Mega Saudi Bill - Discussion & Poll.

Post by Taansend »

Only six or so weeks until this great card.

I'm looking forward to all the fights on here. And, in four of them, I think that the fighter I WANT to win, will probably lose.

I want Noakes, Norman, Yarde & Nicholson to win their bouts but, if I was betting, I'd pick the other way.

I don't care that much who wins between Bam & Martinez. I just want it to be a great fight.

Anyway, of the five, which do you think will be the fight of the night?

And who will people be talking about the most afterwards?

Yarde’s always pretty game… hits hard to make it a fight though Benavidez must be a clear favourite

First time I’ve seen that undercard and I love this show now. I could’ve sworn Bert Bivol I was on 22/11 last year? I could check this really easily but I won’t.

Martinez is class, just not Bam class. I really became a fan of him when Chico in his corner told him to move to his left against Ancajas, just eat one to land one against the southpaw.

All good fights and I’ll be tuning in

Having a look at the records involved. Seven of the ten fighters have higher than 75% KO ratios. The three that don't are three of the highest skilled boxers around at the moment.

Mason 19(17)-0 v Noakes 17(15)-0. I want Noakes but think speed wins this for Mason

Rodriguez 22(15)-0 v Martinez 18(9)-0. Martinez starts well but Rodriguez breaks him down, late stoppage.

Norman 28(22)-0 v Haney 32(15)-0. Haney boxes on the outside to boos from the crowd & a UD.

Benavidez 30(24)-0 Yarde 27(24)-3(2). Yarde has his moments but runs out of steam around 9.

Beterbiev 21(20)-1 v Nicholson 22(18)-1(1). If he hasn't suddenly aged, Beterbiev in 5-7.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm not expecting anything from Yarde and Noakes. I agree with you 100% about the Beterbiev fight. Norman beats Haney, imo.

In regards to Noakes, is it that you don't rate him that high or you rate Mason really highly?

I've seen more of Mason than Noakes but Sam has been built up slowly & steadily, meeting all sorts along the way.

Mason is fast, powerful & aggressive but he can be hurt.

Not so sure about Norman. Took advantage of poor division. Think the Haneys know where they are with this one. UD.

Benavidez beats Yarde, around 7 or 8. Actually think this is a horrible match up for Yarde.

Mason. Too good.
Bam. Too good.

Brian Norman is beginning to be one of my favourite fighters. I’ve seen a few clips of him talking and I really like his attitude, I’m
guessing he’s a big Marvin Hagler fan, he’s pretty funny too. I’d never even heard of him before the break out win in Japan, but he looked absolutely terrific there. Trouble is Haney is a nightmare, and could just outmanoeuvre and out box him.

But we don’t really know how much damage Ryan Garcia did with that amped up beating he handed out - it’s outrageous what he got away with there, and seems to been given a pass.

If you think of a guy like sprinter Ben Johnson busted for steroids in the 1980s 100m - the man has never been forgiven and has had to go into hiding - a pariah. And Ryan Garcia? just steps right back into it.

I remember when Norman was coming up & I was impressed early on then he went a little stale (in my eyes).

Then he fought for the vacant belt against a local lad here in San Diego & I thought he'd lose but he impressed me in stopping Santillon.

After that there was the little saga with Boots & Hearn claiming he'd turned down a better offer etc etc.

And then Japan happened.

As I said above, I'm leaning towards the pedigree of Haney but I really really hope we're going to see the best Norman victory since 1066.

Noakes is too slow to do anything to Mason, I think. By the time he gets inside, he'll be eating shots. Mason was dropped twice, but that was more the element of surprise by Vasquez. Don't think Noakes has that in his locker.

Thanks for that Steve.

If Noakes is still there, strong but behind, at the halfway stage, do you think he can come on later on? Mason is as fit as a flea but hasn't gone past six rounds yet. Noakes has done 12 a couple of times against Euro level boxers - and swept the cards too.

That's what I'm hoping for anyway :D

He's strong and fit and can definitely come on strong. I just envision his face being busted up with cuts and bruises by that point, because he will be taking shots early.

Yeah, I thought the same while watching the Noakes highlights earlier in the week. Didn’t seem dynamic enough to cause Mason trouble. Still really looking forward to seeing how this one plays out though

Great card. So much better than the benn eubank trash.

Norman v haney fight of night, cos i just cant pick whats going to happen. Maybe Normans been slightly overrated? Dunno. We'll find out.

I tjink the other 3 fights are very creditable but the favourites all win and very probably by ko.

I think the first fight was entertaining because of the poor quality. Eubank done and Benn swinging for the hills and missing. Foty talk was complete bollocks!

Interesting, I hadn’t really tracked him before the Japanese fight to be honest, but I saw a clip of him getting dropped in an early fight, and he looked on pretty shaky legs afterwards, makes me wonder if his chin could be a weakness.

Though Devin looked completely gun shy in his last fight, understandable I guess.

Looks like the two of them were involved in a brawl in Saudi yesterday. Nothing too serious. Some big chump got involved and tried to make a name from himself
