Jake Paul to fight Anthony Joshua on December 19 as YouTuber turned boxer confirms sensational heavyweight fight

Anthony Joshua is set to meet Jake Paul in a sensational boxing crossover bout; The former heavyweight world champion will box the social media star in a sanctioned eight-round contest on December 19 in Miami; "This isn't an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day," Jake Paul declared

Jake Paul has confirmed his audacious fight against Anthony Joshua in Miami on December 19.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul will share the ring with former two-time unified world champion Joshua in an eight-round sanctioned fight with 10oz gloves at heavyweight at the Kaseya Center, Florida.

Paul was due to face Gervonta Davis, but the fight was cancelled after a civil lawsuit was filed against the lightweight boxing champion, and Joshua steps in as a formidable replacement opponent.

"This isn't an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day," Paul declared.

"A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title.

"To all my haters, this is what you wanted. To the people of the United Kingdom, I am sorry. On Friday, December 19, under the lights in Miami, live globally only on Netflix, the torch gets passed and Britain's Goliath gets put to sleep."

Joshua will be boxing for the first time since his knockout loss to then IBF champion Daniel Dubois. "Jake or anyone can get this work. No mercy," Joshua said.

"I took some time out and I'm coming back with a mega show. It's a big opportunity for me. Whether you like it or not, I'm here to do massive numbers, have big fights and break every record whilst keeping cool, calm and collected.

"Mark my words, you'll see a lot more fighters take these opportunities in the future. I'm about to break the internet over Jake Paul's face."

Paul fought at heavyweight last November, a points win over Mike Tyson who came out of retirement for a high-profile showdown.

The 28-year-old, who has a 12-1 record, enters the Joshua fight following a career-best victory against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, a former world champion, by unanimous decision win in June.

Joshua, who hasn't fought since a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September, has twice become a world heavyweight champion during an impressive professional career that has featured 28 victories and four defeats.

He claimed his first world title in 2016, unifying the WBO, WBA and IBF belts in an epic fight against Wladimir Klitschko the following year. Joshua won those belts back from Andy Ruiz when the American upset him in 2019 and his championship reign was only ended by Oleksandr Usyk, now the undisputed heavyweight titlist.

"Everyone laughed when Jake Paul said in March that he wanted to fight AJ in 2026," Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, said.

"Well, plans changed, and in under two weeks, MVP and Netflix have made one of the biggest fights of all-time. Now, as only Jake Paul could and would do, he's fighting one of the most fearsome boxers in the world.

"Joshua has every advantage in this fight, except one - the delusional confidence of Jake Paul, and if anyone can shock the world, it's him.

"This is a global clash between two of the most recognisable figures in the sport, Jake, the face of boxing's new era, and Joshua, the King of UK boxing."

Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, said: "They say be careful what you wish for, kind of feel like that's all I need to say.

"Two of the biggest names in the sport will collide on December 19. Whilst I admire Jake's b*****, he's going to find out the hard way in Miami."

Jake Paul to fight ex-heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua on Dec. 19

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul will face former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in a professional heavyweight boxing match on Dec. 19 at Kaseya Center in Miami, Most Valuable Promotions told ESPN on Monday.

The fight -- which will be streamed live on Netflix -- is scheduled for eight, 3-minute rounds, and the fighters will wear 10-ounce gloves, the standard for heavyweight fights.

It's an about-face for Paul, 27, who was originally slated to take on WBA lightweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis in an exhibition fight on Nov. 14. However, the bout was cancelled after Davis was named in a civil lawsuit filed by an ex-girlfriend accusing the boxer of aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Instead of an exhibition against a hard-hitting pro boxer who campaigned at 130 pounds, Paul will now face a two-time heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist in a sanctioned professional boxing match who has fought as high as 256 pounds, over 100 pounds heavier than Davis. Paul has campaigned primarily as a cruiserweight with a 200-pound weight limit, although he weighed 227.25 pounds for his heavyweight exhibition fight with Mike Tyson in 2024.

"This isn't an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day," Paul said in a statement. "A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title. To all my haters, this is what you wanted. To the people of the United Kingdom, I am sorry. On Friday, December 19, under the lights in Miami, live globally only on Netflix, the torch gets passed and Britain's Goliath gets put to sleep."

Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) is still a novice in the sport with no notable amateur experience and only 70 total rounds boxed as a pro since 2020. He'll take a massive step up from MMA fighters and journeyman boxers to face Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs), one of the hardest-hitting and most decorated heavyweights in the world with over 160 rounds boxed in his 12 years as a professional.

"Jake or anyone can get this work. No mercy," Joshua, 36, said in a statement. "I took some time out and I'm coming back with a mega show. It's a big opportunity for me. Whether you like it or not, I'm here to do massive numbers, have big fights and break every record whilst keeping cool, calm and collected. Mark my words, you'll see a lot more fighters take these opportunities in the future. I'm about to break the internet over Jake Paul's face."

In his last outing in September 2024, Joshua was stopped in the fifth round of his IBF title fight against Daniel Dubois. He elected to have elbow surgery following the loss and had been sidelined since. Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter at Matchroom Boxing, told ESPN earlier this year that his charge would fight once in 2025 before targeting a massive all-British heavyweight fight with the currently retired Tyson Fury. However, few expected the one fight in 2025 would be against Paul.

"Everyone laughed when Jake Paul said in March that he wanted to fight AJ in 2026," said Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions. "Well, plans changed, and in under two weeks, MVP and Netflix have made one of the biggest fights of all time. Now, as only Jake Paul could and would do, he's fighting one of the most fearsome boxers in the world. Joshua has every advantage in this fight, except one -- the delusional confidence of Jake Paul, and if anyone can shock the world, it's him. This is a global clash between two of the most recognizable figures in the sport, Jake, the face of boxing's new era, and Joshua, the King of UK boxing."

Joshua had been targeted by Paul for a fight in 2026. However, those plans were expedited following the cancelation of the Davis fight. Most Valuable Promotions told ESPN that Paul would fight before the end of the year following the Davis cancelation but needed to quickly find an opponent.

The Ring was the first to report last week that the two sides were negotiating and now Paul will get the toughest test of his young career that very few expect him to be remotely competitive in.

"They say be careful what you wish for, kind of feel like that's all I need to say," Hearn said. "Two of the biggest names in the sport will collide on Dec 19. Whilst I admire Jake's balls, he's going to find out the hard way in Miami."

Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua due to fight on December 19 in Miami

Anthony Joshua will fight Jake Paul on December 19 in Miami, Florida.

The Friday bout will be screened on Netflix and is due to take place in the Kaseya Center.

Paul had been due to meet lightweight Gervonta Davis in an event this month, but Davis' out of the ring issues scuppered the match and Paul was left looking for a new opponent.

Paul is 12-1 (7 KOs) as a pro, his lone loss coming against fellow novice Tommy Fury, and his last fight came against veteran former middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr, whom he outpointed over 10 rounds in June in Los Angeles.

In a statement, Paul said: "A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title. To all my haters, this is what you wanted. To the people of the United Kingdom, I am sorry."

Joshua's name has been mentioned with Paul's for some time. There was talk of the two fighting early in 2026, but with Joshua needing a run out in 2025, promoters Matchroom believe he will sweep through Paul with ease so he can begin his charge to reclaim the heavyweight titles next year.

Joshua is currently in the midst of his longest period of inactivity in the pros. He has not fought since his September 2024 loss to Daniel Dubois, a devastating fifth-round stoppage defeat that saw him hit the canvas four times.

He has subsequently taken time out to heal an elbow injury and was looking to box in a run out later this year, before a more serious fight in the early part of 2025 and with a possible fight against Tyson Fury still being rumoured for the summer. He is 28-4 (25 KOs) and in another novelty fight devstatingly knocked out Francis Ngganou in two rounds in 2024.

There would have been plenty of red tape to navigate given Joshua is signed to fight exclusively on DAZN and the bout will be on Netflix.

Joshua's manager, Freddie Cunngingham, wrote on social media: "Jake v Joshua done deal. Great effort from the team to negotiate this ground breaking event so quickly."

Matchroom's Frank Smith wrote: "Be careful what you wish for," while Eddie Hearn posted: "A little Christmas treat before a huge 2026."

On Paul's social media, he just wrote: "Yes, it's real."

Anthony Joshua-Jake Paul Confirmed For Miami's Kaseya Center, Dec. 19

As first reported by The Ring's Mike Coppinger, Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul have now finalized a deal for a heavyweight fight to be streamed on Netflix come December 19 in Miami.

Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) hasn't boxed since his fifth-round stoppage defeat by Daniel Dubois in September 2024, though Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn has repeatedly teased the possibility of the two-time unified champion returning to action before the year's end.

Now, the plan is for him to box Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) in a scheduled eight-rounder before kickstarting his 2026 campaign in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital city sometime in February.

During DAZN's Chris Eubank Jr-Conor Benn II broadcast on Saturday night, Turki Alalshikh teased that next September, he would bring Britain 'one of the greatest fights in history', with all indications leading to a long-awaited showdown between him and Tyson Fury.

This summer, Alalshikh told ThaBoxingVoice on a livestream of his desire to see Joshua-Paul at some stage, purely to prove a point - whether Joshua truly was as diminished as critics suggest, or if Paul's divisive strategy in a ruthless sport could continue much longer.

This afternoon, both MVP and Matchroom have both confirmed the same: their proposed matchup will go ahead as planned, at Miami's Kaseya Center.

An original sticking point - the contrasting broadcasting networks - were ironed out in negotiations. Joshua signed a long-term exclusive DAZN deal in 2022, while cruiserweight hopeful Paul has been aligned with Netflix since the following year.

Bidarian salutes 'incredible day' with news that Jake Paul will fight Anthony Joshua

Nakisa Bidarian has heralded an “incredible day” with the news that Jake Paul will fight former two-time world heavyweight Anthony Joshua next month.

They will fight at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, on December 19 on Netflix.

Paul had mentioned his hopes of Joshua publicly several times before, and when his bout with Gervonta Davis – set for this month – fell out due to “Tank’s” serious out of the ring woes, Paul was left looking for another opponent to come in.

Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions who works with Paul, told Sky Sports Boxing: “It’s an incredible day. Jake thought of this in March this year and said, ‘I want to fight Anthony Joshua.’ People laughed then. I was here at Sky Sports in July, the question was asked, ‘do you see this happening?’ And our plan was to do this in March or April 2026. “Plans changed and Jake stood up and said: ‘I want to face Joshua now,’ so it’s Jake vs Joshua, Friday, December 19th.”

Bidarian said Joshua would not be allowed to weigh more than 245lbs on fight night. He weighed 244.5lbs for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in 2022, but has come in at 250lbs or just over in his five fights since. He weighed 240lbs for the first Usyk fight and was 230lbs for his pro debut in 2013.

Paul-Joshua will take place over eight three-minute rounds and the boxers will wear 10oz gloves.

Anthony Joshua prepares to break the internet, and Jake Paul’s face

Anthony Joshua is preparing to use Jake Paul as a springboard to big heavyweight fights.

The 2012 London Olympic gold medal winner today announced that he would face Jake Paul, on Netflix, on Friday, December 19 in Miami, Florida.

Joshua was wounded by his fifth-round stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois last September, to the extent that he has not boxed in more than a year since.

The popular Englishman was also nursing an arm injury and he and promoter Eddie Hearn have discussed what they want 2026 to look like as Joshua, 36, prepares to explore what happens in retirement and without boxing.

“I took some time out and I’m coming back with a mega show,” said Joshua of fighting Paul. “It’s a big opportunity for me. Whether you like it or not, I’m here to do massive numbers, have big fights and break every record whilst keeping cool, calm and collected. Mark my words, you’ll see a lot more fighters take these opportunities in the future. I’m about to break the internet over Jake Paul’s face.”

Joshua shot to fame in 2012 at the London Olympics and has not looked back. He is one of Britain’s most famous faces and has sold out stadiums for years. He’s boxed the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker, Carlos Takam, Andy Ruiz, Dillian Whyte and Kubrat Pulev but suffered consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk as the Ukrainian set about establishing himself as the best heavyweight of the era.

However, Joshua missed out on a lucrative unification fight with Deontay Wilder years ago, and has yet to face his biggest domestic rival, Tyson Fury, in a fight some hope will still happen – next summer.

Paul-Joshua is on Netflix, is promoted by MVP – Paul’s company – according to the fight poster, and Paul is on the left-hand side of the promotional artwork, often reserved for the A-side.

And for a novelty bout that is likely to do incredible numbers in the build-up and on the night, Paul has 28.2m followers on Instagram and Joshua has 16.3m.

On a story on Joshua’s Instagram, he merely said of Paul: “He’s loco mhen!”

UFC have a limit on HW’s too.

Paul will probably be running if he can. AJ probably would have come in light anyway.
