The Jake Paul-Anthony Joshua undercard was just announced and the Gary Russell-Andy Hiraoka WBA mandatory title fight didn’t move with the other fights. Makes sense as this is a Matchroom co-promotion with MVP and Russell is with PBC. That fight will be rescheduled.

That's the whole thing. Jake Paul has always been an annoying twat beating up shot MMA guys, and shot boxers, and hyping himself up like he's really doing something.

This time he's fighting someone that's actually a threat, and it's such a massive step up in threat from anything he's faced prior that it's very likely people will get here what they've always wanted out of ALL of Jake Paul's fights.

It'll be a fix, same as the Tyson fight....they will probably give AJ the points victory, same as Fury. So not enough to derail Paul. Paul will be lauded after for going the 'distance' and he will have 'proved' himself as a 'legit' boxer. He is bringing boxing in WWE territory but to be fair to him, prior to all this nonsense there has always been fixed fights, dodgy judges so who is to say it's any different nowadays..

Anthony Joshua agreed to fight Cassius Chaney on Ring IV prior to Jake Paul clash

Eddie Hearn has revealed the original plan for Anthony Joshua’s return after a year-long absence.

The former two-time heavyweight champion has not fought since his 5th round knockout defeat to then-IBF champion Daniel Dubois in September of last year. Joshua was in talks to face Dubois in an immediate rematch, but an elbow injury halted those plans. Dubois eventually went on to face prior adversary Oleksandr Usyk in July, suffering a stoppage in a failed bid to become undisputed.

There had been murmurs that Joshua, still one of the sport’s biggest stars, was due to return in an eight-round run-out this year. The plan was to shake off rust before he pushed towards a clash with long-time rival Tyson Fury in 2026.

Then the unexpected news dropped earlier this month that Joshua, 28-4 (25 KOs), would instead face YouTube star-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 19 over eight rounds.

Joshua’s long-time promoter Hearn revealed the original plan was for the 35-year-old to take on American heavyweight Cassius Chaney, 24-3 (17 KOs), but the Paul showdown scampered pans.

“I mean, we had agreed a deal. We hadn't signed a contract, but we'd agreed a deal with Cassius Chaney," Hearn told BS. “We were going to fight last week in Riyadh [on the Ring IV ‘Night of Champions’ card]. None of you lot [the media] were going to know about it. We were going to turn up on Friday, Saturday, and we were going to get out the car and go and do eight rounds with Cassius Chaney.

“Now we're doing eight rounds with Jake Paul, but for 50 times more money. So, the business is good, and I think Chaney would have been a slightly tougher fighter. He's a decent fighter, but he's only a Top 100 guy on BoxRec [at heavyweight], and Jake Paul's top 50 at cruiserweight. So, it is what it is. It's a massive opportunity for us. We received an offer we accepted, and we're ready to go. It's a short camp, and obviously AJ's got to make weight, which is something new, but he's in great shape, excited, and ready to do a job. He's preparing for Jake Paul like it was any top world-class heavyweight contender.”

With Joshua fighting Paul on just six weeks’ notice and agreeing to a 245lbs weight stipulation, some could worry that the former heavyweight champion is underestimating the self-acclaimed “Problem Child”.

Is there a chance Joshua could be overlooking Paul, much like his rival Fury overlooked boxing debutante Francis Ngannou?

“No, I mean, AJ's just not like that,” said Hearn. “Yes, the camp would end up being, what, six weeks, seven weeks? Normally, you'd want, I don't know, eight to ten for a tough opponent, but it is Jake Paul. So, as I said, with the weight, that's not easy either. It won't be a problem, but we can't expect no... I mean, it's just too good to be true.

So, the reality is, if they would have asked us to ring walk the night before, we would have done it. We would have just camped out in the ring with a tent or something or worn pink shorts. I would have convinced AJ to do it because the opportunity is too good to turn down. And thankfully, it's a great opportunity, and we've got to just go in there and do the business.”

Anthony Joshua says Jake Paul will get exposed, stopped and schooled on boxing

Even if the pleasantly surprised Anthony Joshua perceived Jake Paul as a delightful holiday stocking stuffer who came paired with a handsome payday, he wouldn't tell you.

Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) is exuding confidence ahead of his clash against Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) on December 19 at Kaseya Center in Miami on Netflix.

The former two-time unified heavyweight champion took the podium recently for a presser and proclaimed Paul will be crushed like the outmatched opponent he’s considered to be as he embarks on a path to revive his career once more.

“I'm going to break his face,” said Joshua. “I am going to break his body up. I'm going to stomp all over him. That's my fighter's mentality. I know what it is in my heart. I know what is in my mind. I am here to compete and prove to myself that I am the better fighter.

“I'm going to come forward, impose myself, land heavy punches and expose him to certain tricks in boxing that he may not have seen yet. I am going to bring him to another school of boxing that I don't think he's been exposed to yet.

“I need to cut him up, I need to break him up and I need to hurt him. I need to knock him out. There is nothing more than that.”

Joshua can’t afford to waste too much time with Paul. The more Paul lasts, the more questions Joshua will have to answer afterward. Joshua, who’s been installed as over a minus-1000 betting favorite by most sportsbooks, is approaching the eight-round fight with a modicum of respect toward Paul.

“I'm not above the challenge. I have to work hard with my head down and get the job done. You can’t underestimate anyone,” said Joshua.

“I see talent, focus, [he] puts in the work, [has] a good team — nothing negative. That's why he's here now. He's here to do his job. I can sit here and address all of the things that Jake doesn't do well … Anyone out there in the world that works harder than the next person deserves to be a frontrunner, and he's a frontrunner in the boxing game right now.

“I take it seriously. He has a conqueror's mentality. His mentality is solid. It's better than Tyson Fury's. Jake is sitting here. So I take him seriously in preparation and give him the respect that he deserves.”

Joshua is 6-4 since 2019 and hasn’t fought since a devastating fifth-round stoppage loss against Daniel Dubois in September 2024. Elbow surgery followed, and Joshua was supposed to be featured in Saudi Arabia on “The Ring IV: Night of the Champions” on November 22 against Cassius Chaney until the Paul plans popped up.

Joshua is expected to get past Paul, fight again in February and look like his old self in both contests to lure Fury out of retirement for a fall matchup.

“I'm going to be a tough man to break down, because I have been building myself over the last year. I haven't been sitting back. I've been working,” said Joshua.

“I know what I can do, and I can't wait to show it. I am not going to crumble. I'm solid. I've been through wars, and I am still standing super strong because I have the hunger and desire.

“It's a great opportunity for me to announce myself as a dominant figure once again. I want to be up just as much as people want to see me down. I'm hungry, devoted and dedicated to chasing what I need to be.

“I am going there for a job. I want to really hurt him in the ring. I have to break his delusion and bring him down to a reality check in the ring.”
