I was fortunate to get an invite to the Boxing Writers Dinner at the Savoy a few weeks before Xmas a few years ago.

Ricky Hatton, the guest speaker said ' I came through reception earlier and said to my driver, xxxxxx hell they get the Christmas tree up early down these parts'

'That's not a Christmas Tree' he said 'That's Lloyd Honeyghan' :yay:    :TU:

Often to be seen standing at the back of the York Hall supporting the amateurs.

Get well soon Lloyd...
Yeah I think it was at the York hall I used to see him back when I was a regular there. Bermondsey boy wasnt he?

Echoing everyone else's good wishes, fingers crossed he pulls through, saw him at the divisional ABA's at Crystal Palace many years back, had time for everyone and was super pimped up.

Another good quote from him was when he was on Wogan just after the Starling fight. (Incidentally he was on the sofa with Donald Sinden, in a once in a lifetime pairing of extremes) and Wogan asked him " So what happened Lloyd?" He replied "I forgot to duck, Tel".

Class.

This bypassed me last year. Does anyone have any current news on Lloyd's health?

I do hope he's well.

Lloyd in full pimp mode wouldn't have looked out of place in the original Starsky and Hutch, hope he's doing well .

I thought this was a new post but it's 5 years old, I'm guessing he's not in the greatest health these days.

I actually med Lloyd at some weird digital TV event on the South Bank back in around 2000.

Mike Tyson was fighting somewhere. It might have been against the Danish bloke. I can't remember exactly. *

There were a lot of boxers there & a few celebrities. One of the All Saints girls was there. A gorgeous black girl in knee high boots with her hair teased into a massive afro. She looked incredible. And about 6 foot 6 in total height.

There was shitloads of coke. The two African toilet attendants made a load of tips :OhYes:

I had a chat with Lloyd but probably sounded like a deranged eejit. I think I told him that he went to school with my cousins husband down in Bermondsey.

I also had a chat with Cornelius Carr.

* - just had a look at Tysons record. It wasn't Nielsen as I was on a cruise ship in the Bahamas then. We actually weren't allowed off the ship in the US for a couple of months due to the 9/11 attacks then the following Ricin stuff. It was the Julius Francis fight as it didn't last long & I remember snow or ice on the ground as we left the venue.

p.s. sorry for the old man rambling story

I was lucky enough to sit next to Lloyd when I went to see David Walker challenge for the European title at the Ally Pally :OhYes:

Honeyghan was wearing a trilby and we chatted on & off for most of the evening. I think he was there to support Spencer Fearon, but watched most of the contests until the end of the card.

I remember it was the first time he'd seen (or heard of) Carl Froch and within 30 seconds turned to me and remarked "he looks tricky".

I also distinctly recall a guy came over to Lloyd who seemed to be involved with one of the boxers or a corner team.
I think it was Winston something and possibly an ex-boxer.

Anyway, Lloyd chatted with him amiably enough but when the bloke went away, Lloyd swivelled around with his eyebrows raised and exclaimed "f#cking nutter!" :oo

Apparently this guy had tried to attack Lloyd in the past. It was a strange moment but just another day in Honeyghan's eventful life !

I was at that fight, kaemazin did a number on walker, i was on a bus back with some of his supporters who were pissed and pissed off, and saying karmazin was lucky. I remember it almost turned ugly when i pointed out walker was hopelessly out of his depth.

I think I met you a few times James.

I used to do ops/PR for Hennessy Sports and believe you wrote for a website?

I always remember a rather dandy pair of suede loafers your wore one night.

That Ally Pally show was one of the best we put on. Some atmosphere when Dave walked out to In The Air Tonight.

Shame about the result! Spud worked on that show for us as well. I remember him saying how fierce Karmazin looked in the dressing room.

The Curry win was astonishing, what a performance that was, broke him and made him quit really.

Then he goes life and death with the Argie bloke Jorge Vaca.

Blew hot and cold, but what a talent.

Wish him the best recovery. British legend

Yes i wrote for maxboxing at that point, fun times.

Karmazin was the mustard, just shy of world class.
