I think Yaqui could've and would've outhustled Toney, and earned a Unanimous decision in a gritty, hard fought battle.

8 rounds to 7 or 9 rounds to 6. It wouldn't be easy, but Yaqui had the kinda style to defeat Toney. Yaqui easily could've given him the same troubles that Dave Tiberi did except worse, the question is had Toney improved enough by the time he reached Light Heavyweight to do better against that style? I think he did, but it still wouldn't be enough. The Yaqui Lopez that fought Matthew Saad Muhammad defeats James Toney at his Light Heavyweight best IMO.

Agreed . I could see Lopez winning this bout on points.

X3. Alvaro "Yaqui" Lopez was at the wrong time of the greats like Matthew Saad Muhammad, Michael Spinks and Victor Galindez era.

But, his work rate would be overwhelming against one of my favorite boxers, the great James "Lights Out" Toney.

Lopez by split decision.
