Australian Bantamweight title

Post by Grant »

Im sorry for being negative but I despair over fights like this, I mean does anyone else wonder who sanctions these titles and why? I love boxing its my number one sport but an Aussie title with a total of 4 fights between them. Such an iconic belt too.

these guys are both rated at the moment as flyweights on boxrec, and there are only 5 total fly aussies active as pros right now.

at bantamweight, there are only 4 aussies currently ranked

what do you expect really in these lower weights where there are hardly any guys fighting

Yeah, pretty much a meaningless title, especially since both are rated as flyweights by Boxrec. The currently rated Aussie bantams have 32, 31, 13, 1, and 2 fights on their records, so getting a competitive title fight would be difficult, short of matching four versus five.

Could it be because Australian men tend to be too big for the lighter divisions? Our sole World Champion is a cruiserweight.

Could be, but I think it's more a case of smaller men choosing not to be boxers. Until recently, the US with its large population and high number of boxers, had little success in most of the lighter weight classes.
