Teo Lopez v Shakur Stevenson

Post by Taansend »

Apologies to Ruthless. I'll delete this thread if the fight becomes official.

Word is that this fight is close to being made for late January. And it's in New York rather than Saudi or somewhere else.

Two local boys, in their physical peak, to see who's the King of New York (& New Jersey).

Funnily enough, Lopez is seen as more of a banger but he's only scored one KO in his last eight bouts whereas Shakur has scored three. I know that means nothing on the night though. Plus the level of opposition.

My initial thought is that Stevenson wins handily on points. Teo hasn't looked the same since he beat Loma. His best win since then was Taylor who looked shite in his previous bout against The Cat.

But Lopez does raise his game in big fights. I'm still leaning towards Shakur but it might not be as dominant as I'm thinking in my head.

I don't think it'll be dominant for either man because neither is a truly Elite talent. They're both good fighters. Just good. Not great.

A lot of these younger boxers coming through now. They think they’re bigger than they are from early stage. They think they’re more valuable than they actually are from a younger age. Most because they have that ‘0’

It’s ruined the sport,

Duck out of fights.. different promotions don’t help. Then their heads are so big on top of that. They seem more confident outside of the ring.

If they have this fight in Saudi instead of New York I will be slightly miffed.

Not to say they're all time greats but in terms of current talent, they both appear the be in the realm of great rather than just good. Can't imagine there's over 25 more talented boxers than both of them in all divisions.

Shakur is definitely firmly in the elite category for me, one of the purest technicians of this era

Probably not 25, but there's 10.
