Ezra Sellers had a tough one, he was stopped in two by Bruce Seldon (5-0 at the time)

Or Henry Janes who bravely went the full 6 with a 9-0 Stephen Foster jnr on his debut and the opponents didnt get any easier after!

And my last is the woeful Pavel Silvin who fought 36-1 Tomas Bonin on his debut and even had him down in the 1st!

I love Pavel Silvin, it was because of him that i won a bit of money on Haye beating Bonin in the 1st.
Silvin was awful, but proved that Bonin was as well

That is a tough debut! Facing someone who is 65-2 in your first fight is crazy.

That and Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather are surely the most well paid Debut fights of all time without question.

Sadly those 2 guys probably made more money to lose those bouts than many Legends we revere ever made in their entire career.

Muhammad Ali's pro debut was against a bloke named Tunney Hunsaker who was a (the youngest) Police Chief in West Virginia.

They became good friends despite being cultural opposites. Hunsaker has a fornicating bridge named after him.

Name ONE other fighter with a bridge named after them.

whicker wrote: 19 Dec 2008, 12:47 Slightly off topic.. but I thought (wrongly) that the guy whom Khan made his debut against, David Baily, was also on his debut.

Anyway, turns out David Baily made his debut against a guy called Dean Ward- whoes own career record was won 0 lost 7- but included that 7 were Matty Marsh, Patrick Hyland, Derry Matthews and Andy Bell- all British Championship level fighters at least.

Tough career!!
Dean Ward was a junior star for small heath abc won national titles and was being groomed to be a star as a pro.

On the home front I think Joe Joyce deserves a little mention for his debut, a 10 rounder against Ian Lewison.

A more obscure one, Nathan King had a tough debut taking on 9-0 and future British & Commonwealth championTony Oakey.

Johnny Carlos fought former heavyweight champion Leon Spinks in his debut.
Johnny smoked him in the first, so it wasn't a tough debut. Only time a former heavyweight champion has lost tona debutant, though.

I mean.. he just cut out the bullshit. And went straight in.

For him he was barely tough. He was at that level.
