Was Tyson Fury ever really 'all that'

He was really The Champion. He was never an especially great one, but he was very good, and better than a great deal of the Heavyweight Champions that had come before him, and for a few years there In all likelihood there was legit not a Heavyweight in the world that could beat him. We'll always wonder what a bout between him and AJ in say 2019 or so would've looked like, but we'll never know for sure.

He has the win against Wladimir Klitschko which at the time with such high expectations of Klitschko and low expectations of Fury(who some even viewed as a gimmick fighter believe it or not which was ridiculous) was a big shock, and that perception played a big part in how the fight was perceived.

He still bottled the rematch. Klitschko had an off night, and was at the tail end of his career. It was a good but boring win that was never backed up.

Yeah not doing the rematch and the PED scandal is another example why I don't view him as being a good champion.

The rematch would have been fascinating. Surely Wlad couldn't have been that gun shy again and Fury was seemingly in a dark place himself.

I think Klit wins inside, but if Tyson had prevailed we'd have known a lot more about him.

Also being dropped 4 times by Deontay The Crude does not portray Fury as a defensive master.

I agree, I think the second fight would of carried on from where the 12th round left off, I think Tyson would of taken centre of the ring with Wladimir in rematch and exchange hard jabs don't think either guy would give up centre of the ring, would get scrappy with clinches etc. TKO win either way within 7 rounds I think would of happened. Tyson wouldn't be able to just stay out the way and nick rounds he is the champion this time completely different perception he would need to stand his ground.
