Nigel Benn v Joe Calzaghe

Post by MasterG »

Benn has opened up about who he would not have beaten even in his prime.

Benn has confessed that he would not have beaten Joe Calzaghe.

I'm not so sure.

Discuss.

Very humble of him. I don’t think anyone could have beaten prime Calzaghe apart from prime RJJ or injury.

Two of my favourite fighters, but Joe would’ve battered Benn, no doubt about it. Probably a war though, if not a first round knockout, when his hands were good. Before he probably broke them for good on Eubanks hard head

Calzaghe, mid-rounds if it was pre-hand injuries and wide UD if after. Better boxer and he had the chin if required to take a stray Benn bomb and keep going. Would see some fantastic action though!

Agreed. Calzaghe was almost impossible to fight with his unique style and freakish speed.

Hard to see Calzaghe not winning.

He was one of the best ever at that weight, blistering speed, great combination puncher, great movement, a very good chin and better powers of recovery, and probably the best engine ever at 168.

Benn would have walked on to so many shots early doors, and I don't think he could have landed clean enough on Calzaghe to land the killer blow.

Joe is a bigger guy than you think too, always thought Benn was really MW so it would be a really tough night at 168 with a prime JC

I think Calzaghe would have ultimately prevailed, but the fight would have been a battle that took a toll on both men.
