Oscar De La Hoya vs Terence Crawford

Post by 2128778 »

Inspired by their recent social media exchanges :)

Who'd you pick between Oscar and Terence across several weight classes they fought at?

a) 135lbs: De La Hoya from Leija fight vs Crawford from Gamboa fight;

b) 140lbs: De La Hoya from Chavez I fight vs Crawford from Indongo fight;

c) 147lbs: De La Hoya of 1997-1999 vs Crawford of 2018-2023;

d) De La Hoya from Mayweather fight vs Crawford from Madrimov fight;

e) their heaviest versions: Crawford from Canelo fight vs De La Hoya from Hopkins fight (at 160lbs).

Do you see their fight going differently in different weight-classes?

The best chance De La Hoya would have would be at 154 pounds because he'd be 30 years old while Crawford would be 37. Even then I don't think he wins.

Personally, I'm not at all sure Crawford wins at 135 or 140.

I'm 100% positive he would.

I think, people forget how good Oscar was at those lower weight classes.

He was extremely big for 135lbs division (bigger than Crawford). And was insanely fast, explosive and powerful. Those performances against Genaro Hernandez and Jesse James Leiha were truly blistering at the time.

Personally, I don't think Crawford has yet excelled as a lightweight. He was touched a little too much for my liking against Burns and Gamboa. It also seemed like he was a bit drained there.

So, after doing some thinking, I think I'd possibly go with ODLH at 135lbs, who was a more complete fighter of the two at that division.

Above 135 - Crawford will win most of the fights between them two. But it would still be nip-and-tuck in Oscar from Chavez I vs Crawford from Indongo.

Crawford was huge for 135 in terms of re-hydration weight. At 140 he was huge too, he was re-hydrating to 159.

He and De La Hoya both were huge for those weight classes.
