Jose Salas Reyes vs Landile Ngxeke title fight official for December 13th

Jose Salas Reyes and Landile Ngxeke will meet next month for the vacant IBF bantamweight title

Jose “Chapulin” Salas Reyes will have home-field advantage for his vacant IBF bantamweight title fight against Landile Ngxeke, as Bxstrs Promotions announced that the pair will meet on December 13th in Mexico City, Mexico.

Salas (16-0, 10 KOs) has been owed a crack at the belt for a good bit, but stepped aside to let then-champion Ryosuke Nishida attempt to unify against Junto Nakatani. Nakatani was likewise on the clock after stopping Nishida, but instead vacated both belts to move to 122 in preparation for a 2026 superfight with Naoya Inoue.

Ngxeke (16-1-1, 8 KOs), 30 years old and seven years removed from a debut draw with future titlist Phumelela Cafu, makes his first appearance outside of his native South Africa. He’s won seven straight since a 2022 stoppage loss to Jayr Raquinel.

Jose Salas, Landile Ngxeke to contest vacant IBF Bantamweight title Dec. 13

Jose Salas and Landile Ngxeke will contest the vacant IBF bantamweight title in Mexico City on December 13.

The two will meet after Junto Nakatani vacated his Ring, IBF and WBC 118-pound titles to move up to junior featherweight.

The IBF No. 1 and No. 2 positions are currently vacant, but the No. 3 and No. 4 positions are filled by Salas and Ngxeke respectively.

Salas (16-0, 10 KOs) has been a professional since 2020. The 23-year-old Mexican southpaw took the unbeaten record of Prince Dzanie (UD 10) on his American debut in April 2023.

Since then, the Tijuana native has continued to move up the rankings, notably stopping former world title challenger Aston Palicte (TKO 4) on the undercard of Terence Crawford-Errol Spence in July 2023. He has won three fights since.

Ngxeke (16-1-1, 8 KOs) turned professional with a draw against future IBF 115-pound titlist Phumelela Cafu (D 4) in June 2018. In just his fifth fight he beat compatriot Sabelo Ngebinyana (UD 12) for the African junior bantamweight title and later added the South African national title when he beat Athenkosi Dumezweni (TKO 10) in April 2022.

The 30-year-old lost to dangerous Jayr Raquinel (TKO 2) in October 2022 but moved to bantamweight and has rebounded with seven wins since.

Looks like a real 50/50 matchup, but I’m leaning Reyes. Fighting at home in Mexico City is a huge advantage, and his timing and composure have been improving every fight. Ngxeke is tough and on a good streak, but this is a big step up for him, especially outside South Africa. I’m expecting Reyes to take it on points unless he finds a late stoppage.

Thought the ref was a bit hasty with the stoppage, Ngxeke was hurt on the ropes and not throwing back but again ref just a few seconds early imo, Salas looks good though, sharp punching southpaw, gets in and out quick, Ngxeke looked a bit sharp himself but outworked most rounds and did get hurt in that 7th
