Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul | NETFLIX - December 19, 2025
Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul | NETFLIX - December 19, 2025
He ran almost the entire fight
Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul | NETFLIX - December 19, 2025
People paid money to watch that crap.
Paul spent most of his time in the ring retreating like a WW2 Italian tank.
Joshua took a few rounds to lose his ring rust.
Should never had been sanctioned.

They even put the "break the Jaw" part in the contract to make it more believable
He actually landed a perfect punch. Good on Paul for "taking" it, but probaly for the better he didn't go up or he would've been put down for good.
EDIT: In case the Video doesn't show up here:

After the first two rounds I was actually rooting for Paul. This was absolutely embarrasing for Joshua. Dear good what a boxing match.

Jake Dvalishvili used that fight to train for his MMA debut next year.

This was one of many things permitted which shouldn't have been allowed

There is no way this should be allowed.
Reminds me of the time Sean O'Malleys coach tried to "coach" his opponent Merab and he got warned for "excessive coaching".
Props to him. He still tried to get up, and although the referee’s count was a little fast, it probably saved him.
There will still be plenty of keyboard warriors calling him "just a YouTuber".

Did they really get 92 million apiece for this?
Of course there are going to be fees and payments and taxes and payoffs and all but still, that’s extraordinary.
Good for them both.

It's crazy to think that for a bout like this these 2 guys both made more money for this 1 bout than Sugar Ray Robinson made for his entire career.

I read between 40-50 million each. Crazy money.
And people wonder why they both took the fight.
The comedian against you. I don't think you make it out of round 1
Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul | NETFLIX - December 19, 2025
Yeah, I've even fogrotten about this. Only reels in social networks of Paul being KOed made me to remember of this "fight". Still a one of the most satisfying knockouts of the recent times.

Jake Paul has come in to the Boxrec rankings in the heavyweight division at #139...

I went to a family christmas party. Im the only thing remotely close to a boxing fan. My entire family tirned this on and was shocked i disnt even realize it was happening
Thats the disconnect between fans of the sport and these sideshow events. These things are effin massive. Good for AJ he should retire with his marbles and a whole lot of money

Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul | NETFLIX - December 19, 2025
Until he got tired Jake Paul was trying to survive, not win. But I can't blame him, he used just about every trick in the book to last the distance but eventually Joshua was always going to catch up to him. I agree with others who more or less said, losing to Joshua was better for his brand than smashed by Tank.
It doesn't matter how good you are, if the other guy is doing everything to not engage, its going to take time.
My only complaint is that I would like to see some better fights on the undercard. I know JP is saying he is championing womens boxing but really I think it is a financial decision. He can get world title fights on the undercard and pay less money for them.
I didn't watch it live so the lengthy breaks between fights weren't an issue but until boxing shows can start getting the fights close together they're always going to be hard to keep people watching IMO. There should be 5 mins max between fighters interviews at the end of the fight to first fighter of the next fight walking out.

Showbiz usually pays more than sport, but if you can combine the 2...
Having said that, there was probably a little more sport there on Saturday than JP might uave preferred.
In the end it was still more showbiz than sport, but if AJ hadn't pulled that last punch...
It might have become even more of a hospital drama.
Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul | NETFLIX - December 19, 2025
Apparently there are reports now that this had 33 Million viewers on Netflix. Pretty astonishing. Definitely a boost to the marketability of a potential Joshua vs Fury bout.
I would imagine even many of the people who initially weren't interested still went and had a look when they heard that Jake Paul's jaw had been broken. The hardcore fans were already in for Joshua vs Fury, but there's about a million or so casuals that may tune into that fight that wouldn't have without this whole circus to get their attention first.

Anthony Joshua’s KO of Jake Paul does big numbers on Netflix
It might not have been much of a fight, but Friday's bizarre eight-round heavyweight contest between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul was at least watched by lots of people, according to reports.
The fight, which was shown on streaming service Netflix, drew an audience of 33 million Live+1 viewers globally from opening to closing bell, per VideoAmp and Netflix. This meant that it reached Netflix’s Top 10 in 91 countries and ranked number one in 45 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Australia, Mexico, and Argentina. In addition to that, Joshua vs. Paul generated 1.25 billion impressions across Netflix’s global social channels and was a top trending topic on X worldwide, trending #1 in the US, UK, and Brazil.
As for the fight itself, Joshua’s sixth-round knockout of Paul was every bit as pointless and predictable as most of us believed it would be going in. It ended with a smile and a shrug from Joshua, 29-4 (26 KOs), as well as a broken jaw for Paul, whose record now reads 12-2 (7 KOs).
