He got up, but he made sure not to get up until 10

He definitely deserves credit for doing this though. He's a rich guy that doesn't have to do this, but he did it. I'll be perfectly honest, if I had Jake Paul's money you couldn't get me to even spar with a guy like AJ, let alone fight him in a real fight.

Similar things is happening in other sports as well, especially in racing where rich kids have bought seats at the highest level. This year some rich dude in his 50's played, and embarrassed himself, in a professional tennis tournament. In golf this happens also, where Youtube golfers now gets invites.

All fight? There were only a few knockdowns in there.

He probably suspected anytime that Jake Paul went down, that he'd had enough, and was ready to be done with this.

I've never liked Jake Paul, always thought his fights had an angle to make sure he wasn't in any real danger. And then he lost to a shit boxer.

But last night he just seemed like a kid who wanted to have a genuine try at something extremely difficult.

Who doesn't appreciate a trier.

Yeah, whether Joshua "carried him" or not, I think it's clear that Jake Paul was genuinely doing his best in there, and his effort is nothing to be ashamed of.

I'm sure most of us would agree his losing effort to Joshua is ultimately a lot more respectable, and impressive than his win over Mike Tyson.

I haven't studied it, he just seemed to count quickly. I've only watched it once.

- Jake and Turki and AJ making out like bandits is the only thing that needs discussion. I applaud the way Jake has exposed the limited intellectual capacity of average boxing fans, so long may he continue... :TU:

Even got Women's boxing out into the mainstream now, not that I will ever watch women fight.

He didn't close the distance or throw a right hand in range for at least the first 2 rounds, then only threw at reduced power after. Far too many right hands that *just* missed. Carried him. Shameful for boxing.

It's been happening since the Jack Johnson days and before, but back then and all the way through to recently they were classed as exhibitions. I have no problem with Ali-Inoki, Jack Johnson-Frank Gotch, Dempsey-George Godfrey etc, because they were exhibitions. Mayweather-McGregor and Paul-Joshua being sanctioned is unforgivable.
Can we add ngannous two fights to the list. Ngannou vs fury was every bit as bad mcgregor vs Mayweather. At least mcgregor had size.
Ngannou did better against Fury than anyone ever did in any of these weird novelty bouts. Ngannou vs Fury was a straight up competitive bout. The only one of the bouts of this type that I can think of being so.
It doesn’t matter how well Ngannou did (hell I thought and still think he won) it was a scandal that it was sanctioned and an absolute disgrace that Fury ( the heavyweight champion of the world who calls himself the greatest heavyweight of all time) should have lost.

Doesn’t matter if he lost, got kod or won….that fight shouldn’t have happened. This sport is too dangerous for aftertimers to go “well as Ngannou did well we can breathe a sigh of relief and say it was a legitimate non mismatch contest”.

And thanks to Fury’s inept display, Ngannou got a second go and no one criticised that match up (indeed many were picking Ngannou) and look what happened there. That’s what Fury should have to him.

If Pete Radamaker got a lucky shot on Floyd Patterson it still doesn’t clear the sanctioning bodies from the terrible match on paper.

I actually don’t think he knew how to cut the ring down. People are defending Joshua now like he was fighting Willie Pep or something. Hell, Paul ran around (as expected) and Joshua really was clueless in cutting the ring off. It’s not like Paul is the next Peter Buckley. He just ran but hes no defensive genius.

Fights aren't fought on paper though stu.

Tyson Fury vs Ngannou was a mismatch on paper only, when they stepped in the ring it wasn't a mismatch. Plus Ngannou being a Former Heavyweight Champion in UFC with many fights there, he may not have been a Boxer, but he was a Professional Fighter.

Usually when a famous fighter from another Combat Sport dabbles in another, he goes for a lucrative, high profile match right away because that's usually the only reason why they'd try the other sport to begin with.

Most fighters start their careers with mismatch, mismatch, mismatch, mismatch, mismatch, mismatch, mismatch, mismatch before ever trying to take on a tough opponent.

When you sum up almost anyone's career, there's usually more mismatches than there were competitive bouts on their record.

He wasn't trying to cut the ring off. He can't be that clueless about cutting the ring off after this many years as a Professional boxer. I was better at cutting the ring off when training for my 2nd amateur bout, he was carrying him in the early going. There's no doubt in my mind about that.

I don’t think Joshua was particularly interested in cutting the ring off. He was content enough in the early rounds to let JP run for the most part.

Regardless of JP’s YouTuber credentials, he clearly knows how to avoid a punch until he gets tired.

I give JP a fair bit of respect for last night, AJ is a big fcuking HW who hits like a mule, and he gave it a go. Don't get what his end game is though.

If you look closely, you can see the ref put his hand on Paul’s back during the count. Willing him to stay down.

The conspiracy theories are wild. I really don’t see any staged fight. JP literally ran the whole fight, he grabbed AJ around the waist 13 times, fell over on numerous occasions, twice taking AJ down with him. He landed 16 punches in 6 rounds and was counted 4 times with the last punch breaking his jaw in two places and dislodging teeth. He done everything he could to survive and not engage. Should AJ have done better, yeah of course but that doesn’t make it staged. Had JP gone toe to toe with him it would’ve lasted seconds.

Finally watched the highlights, it seems like there's no need in watching more than that, since Paul was running as much as he could. I doubt, that Joshua didn't finish him quicker on purpose. Joshua simply looked relaxed, seemingly he didn't even prepared to that fight. When Paul was tired enough to run and spoil, he got caught.

And that idiot was even showing tounge in a process of being whooped. I guess, the broken jaw gonna teach him, that keeping a mouth opened during a fight is a bad idea.

I strongly suspect that AJ was commercially incentived to make it a longer fight but without breaching the FBC rules.

Maybe he let JP run, without going after him

Otherwise his cutting down of the ring was poor.

The KO punch was proper, I'm actually really impressed JP was still conscious

The round by round odds would also be interesting to see again. Obviously as they are all off shore and therefore unregulated we can’t see them now.

A lot of people were happily taking money on an early stoppage.

Coco - we are not disagreeing as both of our views can co-exist. AJ was rubbish at cutting off the ring but I’m fairly certain he could have finished it much earlier. Perhaps that’s because he wanted a ring rust shake off, but I’m fairly certain a lot of people were accepting those bets on an early stoppage.
