Just what were Tyson Fury's Title Fights?

Post by gilgamesh »

This gets a little wordy, but it all makes sense if you read it. So please read carefully.

Since there is some debate about what exactly were and were not Championship fights in Tyson Fury's career, I figured I'd start a poll with 4 very clear options, and leave it to the people to his own people. The Fight fans of the U.K. to have the final say.

I will almost cast my vote if it is needed to break a tie. Otherwise than that, I leave it to you guys.

Option 1: He won the Championship against Klitschko, it was vacated, he won it back against Wilder 2, and defended it from there including his fight with Francis Ngannou. This would mean you think he won 6 Championship bouts

Option 2: He won the Championship against Wladimir Klitschko and defended it 10 times, including his bout with Ngannou. This would mean you think he won 11 Championship bouts

Option 3: He won the Championship against Wladimir, it was vacated, he won it back against Wilder 2, and defended it from there, NOT including his fight with Francis Ngannou. This would mean you think he won 5 Championship bouts.

Option 4: He won the Championship against Wladimir, and everything from there was a title defense with the lone exception of the Ngannou fight. This would mean you think he won 10 Championship bouts.

Well. What say you? What are Tyson Fury's Championship bouts?

Looks like Option 3 is leading the pack, I'd like to see more votes come in just to see if that opinion stays consistent. Thanks for your input gentlemen.

Yh. It’s mentioned in Coco’a post.

Polls say he ‘won it back in wilder 2’

Cus he didn’t go into the first fight with the belt.

Ah yes. The non-existent belt he carried and retired around 10 times in that time.

For me you are immediately stripped of having any right to be called ‘linear champ’ when you test post for nandrolone & get exposed as a drugs cheat.

Sefer Seferi
Francesco Pianeta

If you used arguably as a fact everyone would have a very different record. Usyk for a start post Del.

True, but my post was to highlight the poor quality contenders for the linear title, now whether you though Fury won or not, plus everyone Usyk fought post Del were actually boxers, there are many who thought he lost to Ngannou, getting put on his arse along the way too

I can't remember. I know nobody claimed Chavez was no longer champ because he had them.

Linear only seems to exist for heavyweights.

Him and his team started mentioning linear when all the physical titles inc. Ring belt were stripped from him.

When he had no physical belt.. then the words lineal heavyweight champion became a mainstream in the sport

A lot of people only took Frazier seriously as the champ after Ali 1.

Because if for example a Lightweight Champion fights a Non-Title bout he probably comes in weighing 139 pounds or something. So he's over the weight limit.

If a Heavyweight fights a Non-Title bout, he's still a Heavyweight.

Good point. I forgot about the Ring belt.
There was also never a time during his reign when he was undisputed or generally considered the world #1.
When he beat Wlad, there was Wilder, and when he finally beat Wilder, there was AJ.

Will Usyk not be generally considered number 1 if all Wardleys fans disagree?
