Marvin Hagler on ESPN Classic SportsCentury on 10/4!!!

Woo hoo! I'm ecstatic that their going to show Hagler on SportsCentury. I love to see his biography on SportsCentury which do a damn fine job on bios. I'm guessing we're going to hear alot from Robbie Sims etc.

I remember seeing the Hagler Hearns fight and in the third round Hagler was battering Hearns. He hit Hearns and knocked him across the ring. Well I guess for that moment he decided to give up his plodding style because he went into an all out sprint so he could get to Hearns and continiue to administer a beating. That was about the fastest I've ever seen a fighter move his feet inside the ring.

Yea, Hagler literally ran at Hearns. I can't think of many times I've seen a fighter actually run at his opponent.

What about running AWAY from an opponent? I'm not talking about fighting going backwards or 'milling on the retreat' as they used to call it in The Ring. I mean running away, literally. One that comes to mind is Tate vs Berbick.

Thats one thing I liked about Hagler, he was always looking to finish his oppnent when he sensed he had him hurt and not just stand their and pose like alot of fighters do, and you would never see him have a problem with arm wearyness in the process. I think at least part of his killer instinct came from his basic fear of leaving a fight in the hands of the judges.

Tate running from Berbick is a good example. Another one I can think of was Max Cohen running from Rodrigo Valdez. Not just dancing to elude punishment but running to the other side of the ring. If I remeber correctly it almost looked like he was going to try and run out of the ring. The referee stepped to save Cohen from futher punishment in a totally lopsised chamionship bout.
