Fantastic from Smith. It looked ominous until around the 4th when Matias started looking less comfortable, and then came the brilliant finish in the next round.

Fantastic that.

Commentary was shite. They were making out that Matias was bsting dalton up. There actually didnt look like much on Matias shots, Smih was smothering him and then stepling back to get his own shots off.

Matias is a bully. Smith wasnt for being bullied.

Beat him at his own game. So much for the boogeyman.

Excellent performance from Dalton. I was worried when he came out holding in the second round. He spoiled when he had to but more importantly for me was that he was smothering Matias inside at times. He was too close for Matias to get shots off at times. He never let Matias take over and always answered back. He was landing big shots and it looked like Matias was taking them well. I felt Matias had made one or two little breakthroughs but Dalton was pulling out everything to match him. In the end it just came down to the power. He had the world class power required to tame Matias. It took an accumulation of punches but he showed he has world class power for me. He rose to the occasion and it was a super win. Nobody can take that win away from him.

Dalton beat Matias in his own game. I am impressed and somewhat surprised. All arena went quiet :box:

On one hand, yes. On the other hand, I can't see them paying the fighters as much as they do without PPVs unless they raise prices in general.

If they stick with boxing and sports events, it's unlikely they won't at least raise prices significantly over the next couple of years.

Absolutely over the moon for Dalton Smith. And fair play to Eddie, backed Dalton 100% to fight away from home on someone else's card and he bloody did it. Hell of an achievement from Smith, one of the best away wins ever for a British boxer.

Adam Azim.... you're with the wrong promoter.

Glad that fight was in the US. I think the stoppage was right but had it been in the UK someone would be complaining about it favouring Smith.

Great win, loads of heart and composure. Not the sort of fight you’d want to have too many of, I imagine.

Americans always cry about robberies whenever an American fights outside of the US for once anyway. Who cares?

Catching up on it now as obviously the PPV price was too much for me to justify to myself.

Delighted tho.

The number of World champs that we have had out of Sheffield is absurd.

Wow!!! And the new ... what a great British victory away from home.. WBC Titleist ranks up there with Benn Dewitt, Honeyghan (not quite as amazing as that) but Dalton Smith has arrived. A 'world' champion again from Britain. Another From Sheffield. That was a great performance , he slugged it out and out fought the guy at his own game (his own strengths and took it away from him). Dalton can box , we now know he has got world level balls and toughness.

Fantastic performance, how great to see a Brit contender reach his potential like that. I hope he goes on to have a fantastic reign but whatever happens no one can take that one away from him. Talked the talk quietly and walked the walk. Sorry for all the superlatives but that was a great British performance and win away from home in New York.

Just a shame it never got the platform on DAZN but let's forget that and celebrate....

Sensational win for Dalton Smith ! :yay:

He did it with such style against a solid looking champion...in Brooklyn no less :TU:

Smith looked excellent and in full control in the 1st round, but when he chose to engage (or maybe had to) in a fire-fight with Matias I was far from convinced he could pull it off.

Then he suddenly took his career to a whole new level and obliterated Matias with those stunning right hooks :salut:

The talent was never in doubt, but now we know Dalton is the full package :box:

Exactly that, the commentator is from Puerto Rico, was equally as biased in the previous fight with Manny Rodriguez.

I thought Smith was doing well and winning whereas this fella clearly saw it the other way!

With prospects on the way up, you always wonder how they will cope in the deep end.

Smith just took Matais into deep water and drowned him

Bodes well, because dalton obviously has the technical ability but he stepped up and showed savvy and composure under fire. He'll need it in a deep division.

Smith was brilliant, pinging right hands around the guard of Matias in the 1st and was first off for a couple rounds, Matias came into things in the 3rd and had a strong 4th but I still thought Smith was holding his own, sure enough in the 5th he rocked Matias with a right then an even bigger one sent him down, he got up on unsteady legs and the ref waved it off, maybe looks like he could've got another chance to fight but who cares, England's got another world champ and even better he's dethroned a drug cheat, winner winner chicken dinner

Not a chance. He was on jelly legs.
Not so sure. There is a good argument for that having been stopped too early.

He was up and clear, a wobble yes, but he's the champion and it wasbln't a massive knockdown

You see 90% of them carry on.
