Jaron “Boots” Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz - 2026?
Re: Jaron “Boots” Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz - February 2026
45% each then the winner gets 10% is fair and should be the standard for a fight like this, they could even go a step further and do 40% each and the winner takes home 20% extra. However, we all know there's more to it such as ring size, location, promotional responsibilities, judges and ref plus a lot of other things that can be used to go against the away boxer. Hearn is oversimplifying it.
They should be agreeing to a 2 fight deal realistically. They're likely to be two of the top 5 guys in those divisions for the best part of a decade. Get two fights in now, with the winner of the first getting a larger chunk in the second, then have a third later down the line.

Because they have open dates coming up March, April and May they can drag this argument out for some time as long as they get from A to B in the end.
It's a big fight for us here, but is it a big fight for sport ?
I'd say at this point it would be considered a high level "Trade Fight"
I know I'll watch it, but in terms of what the boxers want and the promoters can deliver financially it's unsure they can make good on promises made so they hold back

The big problem both of them have is this ...
If they don't fight, who wants to see them fight anyone else.
If they don't fight, who wants to see them fight anyone else.
Re: Jaron “Boots” Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz - February 2026
Vergil also has a promoter that doesn't want any of his talent to become a bigger star than himself and will go out of his way to try to stop him from doing so. Which is what he's doing here. With a win here Ortiz could be taking the first step on a road that leads him past The Golden Boy.
Oscar didn't like that when Canelo did it, and he don't want it happening again.

Okay, that’s a reach.gilgamesh wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026, 22:47 Vergil also has a promoter that doesn't want any of his talent to become a bigger star than himself and will go out of his way to try to stop him from doing so. Promoters don’t make money by holding fighters back. Oscar pushed Canelo hard until Canelo outgrew Golden Boy and left.
And even though Ortiz is very good, he’s not even close to DLH (or becoming a megastar).
Ortiz is gonna be 28 in two months and didn't even win a world title yet.
Oscar at 28 was already a global superstar, Olympic gold medalist, 5 division champ, headlining PPVs and fighting elite names back to back.
I don't think Ortiz will ever come even close to prime DLH..

I don't think so either, and as long as he's promoted by him I know so. For the record I never said he was as good as De La Hoya because I don't think that, but I do genuinely believe De La Hoya holds back his talent because he always wants to be the biggest star at HIS shows.Sendo Takeshi wrote: ↑16 Jan 2026, 08:42Okay, that’s a reach.gilgamesh wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026, 22:47 Vergil also has a promoter that doesn't want any of his talent to become a bigger star than himself and will go out of his way to try to stop him from doing so. Why would Oscar want to block this fight ?gilgamesh wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026, 22:47Vergil also has a promoter that doesn't want any of his talent to become a bigger star than himself and will go out of his way to try to stop him from doing so. Surely it can't be because of ego or not wanting someone to become a bigger star than himself.
With all respect to Vergil, he's a long way from what Oscar became as a boxer, that said Vergil's career is far from over.
I don't know what the negotiating positions are from the Innis and Ortiz teams, but a close to 50/50 split sounds fair to me, unless I'm missing something.
I could probably make a case for either boxer getting a slight advantage on the money, but by very little.
Be a shame if this one falls by the wayside.
Re: Jaron “Boots” Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz - February 2026
Give Innis what he wants
Fight him in Philadelphia then
50/50 in Innis back yard
I bet they're coming to Vegas

‘It’s a process’: Trainer Robert Garcia weighs in on Jaron Ennis vs Vergil Ortiz negotiations
Robert Garcia explains why a fight between Vergil Ortiz and Jaron Ennis isn’t easy to finalize.
Garcia on the dragging negotiations for Boots vs Ortiz
“I know Vergil. Vergil’s a warrior, he’ll fight anybody,” Garcia said. “And he wants the Boots fight, he wants to fight the best in the division, he wants to fight for a world title if possible. It’s just promoters, Matchroom, Golden Boy, managers also. It’s a process. A lot of people in boxing think ‘oh those two should fight so make it happen.’ No, it’s not that easy. It takes weeks, months of negotiations to finalize a fight. I don’t like it. I like to go straight out ‘let’s make it happen, f-ck it, let’s do it’…That’s the way I like to work.
“But in this case you have two of the top promoters who also compete against each other, who is going to be the main promoter — all that has a lot to do with it, too. I think the fighters deserve a big payday, it’s a huge fight. I think it’s one of the fights that people are more excited about for this year. There’s other fights that are great but this is one of the top two or three fights in the whole year that people want to see, ‘cause it is that big of a fight.”
On Teofimo vs Shakur
“It’s a fight where we’re going to see talent from both but we also have to see heart, who has that heart to become The Man. I think that fight’s going to be about who’s smarter, who plays the better cards and who doesn’t make mistakes, because it’s going to be one of those fights where we might not have too much action but we’re all going to be standing up because we want to see who’s going to land and who’s going to be the one to find those punches to land.”

It's not going down in March
2 fight deal lead most likely to a ppv

I'm over this fight right now. Tired of it dragging on.
2 really good fighters who have fought no one of significance who think they are huge stars.
Their value as fighters do not dictate such a drawn out negotiation
Re: Jaron “Boots” Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz - February 2026
I agree with you whole-heartedly. Let me know when they sign the deal to fight, until then, I don't care. (Of course, that's only figuratively, because in spite of myself, I'll keep posting about it.)tiny_acres wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026, 12:05I'm over this fight right now. Tired of it dragging on.

There's a lot of those types of boxers in the sport today.
So many of them can't even make weight anymore or are drugged up to they eyeballs they can't see straight, look at Keyshawn Davis as a poster boy for that group, can't make weight half the time and stoned out of his head the other I see him.
Why anyone would purchase a ticket to watch him is beyond me.

There's mostly ONLY those types of Boxers today. Guys that think they're stars because they say so on Twitter instead of proving it in the ring.Evander wrote: ↑31 Jan 2026, 15:05I don't blame you for feeling that way.tiny_acres wrote: ↑30 Jan 2026, 12:05I'm over this fight right now. I was looking tickets for the Mario Barrios v Ryan Garcia fight the other day, they wanted over $920 for a ticket, an ok seat but not a great seat.
For this card they want that amount of money is outrageous, neither of them have done really anything for the sport.

Maybe I’m too big of a casual, but there is no fight in existence that would make me pay that amount of money for a seat. Not even if I can take the seat home with me.Evander wrote: ↑31 Jan 2026, 15:30 I completely agree.

Live events in general have gotten completely outrageous with the prices they expect for tickets. I expect a lot of events will be playing to half full arenas as long as that trend continues.Sendo Takeshi wrote: ↑08 Feb 2026, 06:39Maybe I’m too big of a casual, but there is no fight in existence that would make me pay that amount of money for a seat. They probaly rather have 50% of the seats filled for 500-1000 bucks each than 100% for 1/10 of the price.gilgamesh wrote: ↑08 Feb 2026, 13:33Live events in general have gotten completely outrageous with the prices they expect for tickets. Because there will always be someone who is gonna pay that price.

Same. I'm fine with watching the fights in my comfy bed, without smelly and screaming people.
