Oscar De La Hoya wasn't that good to begin with. He was one of the most overrated boxers ever.
The pressure by the Toy Bulldog Mickey Walker would be enough against a running around the ring without throwing any meaningful punches De La Hoya.

Walker eventually grew into a man who could mix with some of the better Heavyweights of his time, and hold his own. Welterweight was De La Hoya's 4th weight class.
He's giving away a lot of size and strength to Walker, and Walker also would almost certainly have the better stamina. All adds up to this being a bad night for The Golden Boy.
