What about the Kirkland Laing fight? You never really mention that one.elmersalsa wrote: ↑12 Feb 2026, 15:27Exactly on point. Roberto Duran already had great wins way before fighting Sugar Ray Leonard. The Leonard win cemented him as an all-time great fighter pound per pound. His legacy was secured with the win.gilgamesh wrote: ↑29 Jan 2026, 13:48That was pretty deep into his career though. He may have never been better than he was on THAT night, but he was better than many guys would ever be even on bad nights. Duran was just a great fighter in general, and doesn't really fall into a category like this. This is more like a "Who are the One Hit Wonders of Boxing" kinda thing.Caractacus wrote: ↑29 Jan 2026, 13:38 what about Roberto Duran ? after he defeated Sugar Ray Leonard for the welterweight title ?
His win over Davey Moore re-established him as an all-time pound per pound great. And his win over Iran "The Blade" Barkley iced him on the cake by securing a top 5 all-time pound per pound great.
What a career!

george kambosis
been dining out a while now on the win over teo lopez, despite being dominated by every world class opponent hes faced since and looking mediocre vs the guys he was supposed to beat (maxi hughes fight couldve easily been a loss or draw, jake wylie fight was competitive). tbf it was a great effort to beat teo in an excellent fight, but its gotten boring seeing him outclassed in big fights now.

He lost, period. And he redeemed himself by kicking Davey Moore's azz. Didn't he?keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑13 Feb 2026, 05:53What about the Kirkland Laing fight?
