Elijah Pierce-Lorenzo Parra To Headline Manny Pacquiao Promotions Card Feb. 28

Elijah Pierce and Lorenzo Parra have been rescheduled to headline a Manny Pacquiao Promotions card in the U.S.

The Ring has learned they’ll meet February 28 in a 10-round bout for a secondary WBO featherweight title at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. They were originally set to meet November 29 on Pacquiao's inaugural card at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California, but Pierce withdrew because of an illness.

Their fight will be streamed on Amazon’s Prime Video.

“Pierce versus Parra is a fight fans were eagerly waiting for, and we’re excited to bring it back as the centerpiece of our second U.S. show,” Sean Gibbons, president of Pacquiao Promotions, said. “Turning Stone Resort Casino has become the home of Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, which is synonymous with our mission at MPP as we continue to build the future stars in boxing.”

Pierce (21-2, 17 KOs) is ranked No. 2 by the WBA and WBO. The 29-year-old contender from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, enters his clash against Parra (23-1-1, 17 KOs) on a 12-fight win streak, with his last victory being a ninth-round KO of Michael Dasmarinas on July 25. Nine of those wins came by stoppage.

Parra, 31, of Machiques, Venezuela, is coming off a majority draw against unbeaten featherweight Omar Trinidad (19-0-2, 13 KOs) on August 15. Prior to the draw, Parra had won nine straight fights, though seven of those wins came against opponents with either zero victories or just one win in their careers.

Rising 19-year-old lightweight prospect Curmel Moton (8-0, 6 KOs) will also make his return against an opponent to be named later. Moton last fought on May 31, as he won every round on the judges’ scorecards in an eight-round, unanimous decision over Renny Viamonte Mastrapa.

In the 10-round co-feature, Bryce Mills (20-1, 7 KOs) and Tobias Green (12-3-1, 4 KOs) will meet for a secondary WBC 130-pound title. Mills, 24, of Syracuse, New York, has won 14 straight fights and will fight at Turning Stone for the seventh time.

Pacquiao’s son, Jimuel Pacquiao (0-0-1), will fight for the second time, also against an opponent to be announced. He fought to a majority draw against Brendan Lally in his debut November 29.

Manny Pacquiao Jr., Curmel Moton opponents set for Feb. 28

Pacquiao Jr. (0-0-1) will look to land his first win as a professional when he takes on Santana Figueroa (0-2) in a four-round lightweight fight as part of a show promoted by his legendary father. The second-generation boxer made his pro debut in November with much fanfare but settled for a majority against fellow debutant Brendan Lally.

Moton (8-0, 6 KOs), meanwhile, is set to take on Wilfredo Flores (12-6-1, 5 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight bout. The 19-year-old Moton is a wildly popular prospect and a Floyd Mayweather-protege who’s been touted as a “generational talent.”

Pacquiao and Moton will serve as supporting attractions for the main event between featherweights Elijah Pierce (21-2, 17 KOs) and Lorenzo Parra (23-1-1, 17 KOs) on Prime Video.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG'S ALL WOMEN'S SPORTS NETWORK JUMPS INTO BOXING

Whoopi Goldberg launched the All Women’s Sports Network with Pluto TV last year to spotlight female sports, and now the star entertainer is bringing the sister act to the sweet science.

AWSN is stepping into the boxing ring to present a trio of women’s bouts Saturday on Pluto TV from the undercard of the show staged by Manny Pacquiao’s promotional company at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. AWSN’s show begins at 5 p.m. ET on Pluto TV, while the rest of the card featuring Curmel Moton, Manny Pacquiao Jr. and others streams on Prime Video.

AWSN’s live two-hour show is billed as the “Queen of the Ring” and features Shera Mae Patricio (7-0, 3 KOs) taking on Maribel Ramirez (15-13-4, 3 KOs) in a six-round junior bantamweight bout. Also, Damiana Andrello (1-1-1, 0 KOs) faces Jessica Radtke Maltez (2-3-2, 0 KOs) in a four-round junior bantamweight fight, while Katrina Scalzo makes her pro debut against Michelle Cook (3-6-2, 0 KOs) in a four-round junior welterweight contest.

“We are proud to be a part of this stellar event with Manny Pacquiao Promotions, and to be able to showcase women’s boxing champions of the future on the AWSN platform around the globe,” AWSN CEO George Chung said in a statement.

Goldberg is an actor, comedian and television personality for ABC's "The View" and has won an Emmy Award, Grammy Award, Academy Award and Tony Award throughout her decades-long career in entertainment.

“I am a huge sports fan and a supporter of women’s sports and have never felt women and girls have had the same opportunities and support that male athletes have,” Goldberg previously told Forbes.

“I have always looked to the media to provide equal time and opportunity to follow women’s basketball, soccer, volleyball – beyond the Olympics. I knew that if I couldn’t find these sports and watch the amazing female athletes playing them, others weren’t finding them either.

“We want AWSN to be a media network for everyone who is a fan of women’s sports from across the globe. Women are amazing athletes and compete with as much focus and intensity as men. It’s our chance to provide a more even playing field for fans to watch and support the art of sports and competition.”

Goldberg is no stranger to boxing. She's been ringside throughout the years attending fights and was even presented a belt by the WBC in 2023.

LORENZO PARRA UPSETS ELIJAH PIERCE WITH 2ND-ROUND STOPPAGE

Elijah Pierce entered the fight in the driver’s seat to earn a world title shot with a win.

Lorenzo Parra had other plans in the scheduled 10-round bout.

Parra stopped Pierce in the second round in the main event of a Manny Pacquiao Promotions card on Saturday at Turning Stone Casino & Resort in Verona, New York. Pierce entered the contest ranked No. 2 by the WBA and WBO at featherweight.
Parra (24-1-1, 18 KOs) sent the tone early, connecting with a pair of big shots, including a counter straight right hand that buzzed Pierce (21-3, 17 KOs). He continued the momentum into the second round and got Pierce into a corner before he rocked him again with a looping right hand.

Pierce was out on his feet and slumped into the ropes as Parra threw a flurry of punches before referee Ricky Gonzalez stopped the fight.

Earlier, welterweight Curmel Moton made quick work of Wilfredo Flores, stopping him after two rounds.
Moton (9-0, 7 KOs) walked down Flores (12-7-1, 5 KOs) for most of the fight and consistently landed with blistering combinations in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds. The 19-year-old prospect started to find his groove at the end of the second round, unloading a barrage of punches in the final seconds before the bell rang.

Not long after the second round ended, Flores’ corner stopped the fight.

Lorenzo Parra wants Rafael Espinoza title fight after KO win over Elijah Pierce

Lorenzo Parra entered Saturday’s fight as an underdog. He hopes his performance has earned him a world-title opportunity.

The 31-year-old from Venezuela punched his way into featherweight contention at Turning Stone Casino when stopping Elijah Pierce in two rounds with a brutal combination that left the 29-year-old from Georgia stumbling about, prompting the referee Ricky Gonzalez to halt the fight immediately without a count.

Pierce had been rated second by the WBO and WBA heading into the fight. Brendan Gibbons of Manny Pacquiao Promotions says that they intend to enforce a mandatory opportunity with Mexico's WBO featherweight champion Rafael Espinoza, becuse Parra will be rated in the top three by the organization.

“We’ll push the WBO to do the mandatory versus Espinoza,” said Gibbons. “That’s what they granted us with Elijah if we won. Why wouldn’t Parra get the title shot?"

Parra, 24-1-1 (18 KOs), scored his 10th victory in his past 11 fights since his lone defeat, and says he feels confident about his chances of pulling off another upset with Espinoza, 28-0 (24 KOs), who is also 31 years old. The Guadalajara, Mexico native has won all four of his title defenses by stoppage since defeating Robeisy Ramirez by majority decision to win the belt.

“I always knew it was gonna be a knockout,” Parra told BS. "He made it easy, and it was an easy fight for me."

“Espinoza is a great fighter. He throws a lot of punches and if I'm lucky enough to get that fight, we'll put together the right strategy so I can leave victorious that night.”

Parra entered the fight with a heavy heart as he was fighting for the first time since his father died in November. He dedicated the victory to his father, saying that he dedicated the belt to him.

“I've always had that motivation, and it's something that I wanted to do for my dad. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could see me do it. But I know he's proud of me and this title is for him,” he said.

While Parra seemed in a celebratory mood as he walked around the casino taking photos with fans, he says the real celebration was still to come when he returns home to his adopted hometown of Las Vegas.

“It's a great victory, but the celebration won’t happen here, it's in Las Vegas. I have my wife, my four kids, and they're waiting on me. And thankfully I get to come back triumphant,” Parra said.
